Swing review

Hi all,

been trying to get my game up and running again and since im a long time lurker in the golf forums i figured id better ask you guys for advise.

So, i hit my irons fairly consistent, only trouble i have is with aiming. I think it might have something to do with my swing.

Here i am with an iron 7.

The driver
I dont like to use my driver all that much. I really hit it bad, and if i put a little power behind it, i almost always get a major slice. Really need to work on that.

Hope the quality is ok enough. I would really like to hear your opinion about my swing and really hoping you guys can give me some tips.

Yours truly,

Re: Swing review

What do you mean by trouble with aiming? What's your handicap?

I think you should work on your setup just a little bit, I'd want to see a little more bend at your waist and *less* bend in your knees. I also want you to feel like your knees are closer together - don't move your feet, shift your weight so the weight is on the inside of your feet and you pull your knees in.

The most noticeable thing I see in your swing is best seen from the front view, in your backswing you get your weight way outside your right hip and its going to be really hard to recover from there. Feel like you keep more of your weight on your front foot during the backswing. You should notice that you are able to get your left shoulder *lower* to the ground on the backswing, and you maintain flex in your right leg similar to at set up. Your right hip should be inside your right leg, not outside it, and the weight should all be felt on the inside of your right foot.

It's going to feel weird when you take a real swing but you should be able to easily do the backswing portion and pause at the top and analyze it yourself. Your right hip should feel lower than it currently does and more in the direction of your target - you will be rotated more and not swaying back in the backswing basically.

Beyond that, you come over the top some like all newer players struggle with, and its more exaggerated with the driver, which is why it slices a lot. You need to start to think about swinging out towards the right and realizing that the golf swing is a game of opposites, swing more towards the right and the ball will curve to the left (or if you slice, it will curve *less* to the right).

You look flexible and athletic and you don't have a bad swing, I would think you can shoot in the high 80s or 90s with your current swing, so if I am wrong, maybe your short game needs more attention.

Yeah you need to lean forward a bit more at address. Your stance is also a bit too wide for my tastes. Personally I think your backswing is a bit fast. Slowing it down might lead to a stronger shoulder and hip turn which I think you need (especially the hips). How far do you hit those clubs out of curiosity?

Re: Swing review

Thanks for the tips. Ow yeah, sry i forgot to mention. I dont have a real handicap yet, but i shoot like a 15-20 or so. How far i hit them? The 7 about 150 meters, and driver around 200(but only if i hit it good ofc, which never happens)

Trouble with aiming, as in, my aiming is incosistent with my lineup. Sometimes it goes way left of where i wanted it to go. But its not a hook or a bad shot. Its just that somehow its doesnt go where i want it to go.

i noticed the coming over the top too. Also good points about the weight. I will try to work on that.

Thanks again.

When it does go where you want it to, is it starting to the left and curving back to the point you were aiming at? Are most/all of your misses to the right big slices?

If you are coming over the top, your club is traveling on a line that points diagonally out to the left of your target. When the club face is square to that line, you would hit a pull - a shot that goes left but does not curve. When the club face is open to that line, but closed to the target you're aiming at, your shot would start to the left and curve back to the right and end up near where you aimed. If your clubface was square to the target and drastically open to the line it's traveling down, you'd hit a big slice.

The real fix is to stop coming over the top, but the variation in the shots simply has to do with inconsistency in being able to deliver the club face square.

Re: Swing review

I will def stop going over the top now. When i first took lessons again after a long time, it was the first tip i got from the pro. But i guess i started doing it again.
Thanks
