My fav hole in one I've seen, I was forecaddying for a group at Seaview back in like, '98. We're on the Bay course which they've re-routed a few times, so I don't remember the hole number (I think it was 17?). It's the course the Shopright Classic is playing this week. It's a short 110yd par 3 that runs facing south and is along the road. This old guy has been skulling balls all day. He gets up, smacks one where the leading edge hits like, dead center on the equator. The ball never gets more than eyeball height. It's zippping along and is easily going to bybass the green and maybe if it's lucky, get caught up in one of the bunkers behind the green. It gets wrapped up in the flag, and the flag just gently drops the ball down and directly into the hole.

"Holy **** did that just happen?" was the only thought from any of us.

217 yard hole. Hit a 5-wood screamer that bounced 20 yards in front of the green and rolled into the hole. Terrible shot.

5-some with a pro in the group and a caddie.

My only ace was years ago in TN. The three guys I regularly played with were all out of town, so I joined three guys I had never played with. There was also minimal betting involved--unlike my regular group.

#7--a 160-ish yard hole from a slightly elevated tee across a small inlet from a larger lake on the right. Pin on left front. Six-iron about 6' left of the pin and about the same distance past it hit into the face a small mound and fed back and to the right into the cup.

Brag: Hole-in-one
Beat: Lost out on $$ from my regular group.
Variance: Guys I played with were tight-lipped tee-totalers who hit the clubhouse and went straight home after the round!

Only one for me was in 2012 at PB Dye Golf Club in Ijamsville, MD. Hole #2 on a day when it was around 100 degrees and humid in July. Hit a PW 120 yards and caught the slope in the center of the green which took it to the cup on the right side. Was so hot after celebrating I played like garbage the rest of the round.

Witnessed two last year, on back-to-back days. The first at William Sahm Golf Course in Indy, older guy I get paired up with Aces 11 with a hybrid about 170 yards. I'm the only one that sees it fall, and he refuses to believe me until he pulls it out of the cup. Even took his wedge to the green with him. Next tee he proceeds to hit the ball in the middle of the woods, lost.

Next day guy I play with regularly aces #4 at Royal Hylands golf course in Knightstown, Indiana. He also hit a hybrid about 170 yards, though his landed at least 20 yards short and right and fed down to a front right pin location, dropping in front of the foursome that waved us through from the green.

Never had one. I've witnessed 4 from my regular playing group. They each have one and another has two. Closest I have come is my ball landing in the ring where the hole was cut the day before. Lame.

This story related to me by husband of woman who has recorded 13 holes-in-one;

I'm stationed in Brussels. Cathy and I have just got together, and I'm teaching her to golf. I am captain of this pretty fancy golf club and we're having our club championship. The prizes are really impressive, silver this, gold that, they spent a lot of money. The awards dinner is black tie, ball dress, and champagne.

Cathy, in her first tournament ever, records two (2) holes in one! It is the talk of the evening. Must be a Guinness Records moment. The club president stands before all assembled and declares that Cathy's feat is worthy of a car! He is going to gift Cathy a car for recording two holes in one on the same day in her first tournament. The room goes crazy. Wild cheering from everyone. Cathy is crying she's so overcome. She heads up to the podium, and is handed a Dinky toy. Silence. Awkward, embarrassing, soul-wrenching silence. The evening does not recover.

Told this before, but I'm playing Keeton Park in Dallas. #11 I think(?) is a 170 yarder and it's in to an extremely brisk wind. It's probably a big 4 iron for me or a soft 3, but I suck with my long irons, so I often play weird half shots with my 5 wood. The plan this time was to take a big normal full swing with a 5 wood and have the wind knock it down. I pull slice a worm burner that doesn't get above shin height, skips twice in the rough, is going way over the green, slams into the flag stick and drops straight down in the hole. I was using a Lady Precept by the way.

Probably two summers ago, I holed out a 120 yard shot for birdie on a par 5 (after hitting like a 110 yard drive into the trees), a 4 iron from 200 for eagle on a par 4, and a 6 iron from 160 for eagle on a par 4, all in about 3 weeks....maybe 6 rounds. Both of the eagles were "misses" that were drawing too much and I thought they were both in the bunker.

I'm still at zero, though I did have the distinct displeasure recently of flying one into the cup only for it to come shooting back out and off the front of the green.

Witnessed another one a few weeks back that was pretty neat, guy I play with quite a bit who's about ~ 60, been a golf addict forever. Used to play over 100 rounds a year (in Michigan) before he had some health issues. Never had one until then. It might have been the happiest I have ever seen him.

I may have posted this story before so sorry if it's familiar.

I have two. The second was several years ago and was unremarkable. 135 yards, hit a good PW, two hops and in the cup.

The first one is better. I was in my second year of playing golf, and was not very good. We are at Saddlebrook in Tampa. It was '91 and I was in my third year of law school. I won the trip to Tampa on WFAN's "Giants Road to the Super Bowl" contest. The big game was in Tampa that year. So I win the grand prize, and they tell me I can take a friend and go any week ... but the week of the Super Bowl. LOL.

So anyway we go down the week after the game. We get to the first tee at Saddlebrook. Meet two guys from Green Bay who are playing with us. The group ahead of us is a fivesome, which includes George Bamberger (former Mets manager) and Billy Connors (former Yankees pitching coach, then in the Cubs organization). I'm very excited, being a big baseball fan.

First hole I get a typical 8. Second hole, 168 yards over water. Hit a 4-iron (LOL). It goes in. It was a decent shot, not like it skipped the water. We go crazy. Third hole, I get a 9. So my card is 8-1-9 through 3.

At the turn it starts to rain. We go into the halfway house and there's the fivesome. I go up to Bamberger to say hello and tell him I'm a big Mets fan, and he wants nothing to do with us. But Billy Connors comes up to me and says loud "hey are you the kid that got the hole in one?" I'm so proud now, tell him yes. And he says loud, so everyone can hear (it's crowded due to the rain) "I saw it and figured I'd watch you. YOU'VE HIT EVERY ****ING TREE ON THE COURSE SINCE THEN!"

Made my second one today. After starting double, par, double we get to the fourth hole, 155 yards into a little wind. I argue with the guy in my group who tells me I can't get there with a nine and I need more club. I hit the nine, it lands two feet left of the hole, takes one bounce and spins back six feet dead center. Just turned and laughed at him and he didn't club me again all day. Lol

Playing a quick nine before the 6 PM Friday Couples Scramble. No one else on the front nine. Hit a 4-iron from 210. Didn't see it go in since the pin was in the back. Houses surround the course. No one else saw it. Oh well.....

Have had two of them

1st one when I was 16 years old. Playing in a fourball with 3 randomers. The 17th in Athlone, Ireland is a 120 yard par 3 with an upturned saucer green. Hit a beautiful 8-iron, ball bounced once dead online and then disappeared from view.

2nd one when I was on holidays in France with my parents. Another short hole. Hole slopes downhill all the way, even the green slopes severely from front to back. Playing with my dad, Hit a nice pitching wedge, but the shot is going right of the flag. Ball lands on the front right corner of the green and proceeds to roll all the way down the slope and to the left. A good 50-60 feet of roll later the ball, which had been tracking for the flag the moment it started rolling drops right in the front door.


Still waiting for the hat-trick and I've been close a good few times, but not had them drop in.

Luckily I'm the type of guy who doesn't give a **** whether anyone believes me or not.

My only Ace was when I was 16, fitting since that was pretty close to my peak golf days (which wasn't much; varsity golf team, mid-single-digit handicap). It was the 16th hole at the Lewiston Golf & Country Club, and I was playing with a buddy my same age. The 16th is 160-yards, downhill, but tough due to a green that funnels away from center and constant swirling winds. I'm pretty proud of it, because it was actually a good shot: right on line, one bounce, short roll into the cup. I freaked out because I didn't think anyone would believe me since it was just me and another kid, so I ran down to the next tee box where I knew this old guy was teeing off and could see my green. I said "Mr. Smith...." and before I could continue he said, "I know, I know, I saw it go in." Had the ball for a really, really long time, but lost it in one of my post-college moves.

Practice round for The Ike (NY/NJ major Am event) playing with two former champs and the winner for the current year (my partner). We're two down going into 13 or 14 and I flush a 1 iron right at the pin. Ball hits short and on first hop strikes the pin and nudges 3" away. edit: forgot to add... qualifying tourney to get into this same Ike, I hit a 9 right at a pin. No one saw it land real well (even though we had 100% view of green from elevated tee) so we all assumed it plugged in the front bunker. Get up to find ball sitting in its own divot 1" directly behind the pin.

Me too! What course?

I was 13 years old at Elmcrest Country Club. Took out an 8 iron on the 7th, with my dad and his friend watching intently, as we were embroiled in a fierce match.

The swing felt okay as I was following through. The ball flew true off the club face, and headed towards the green. My dad blurted out "Looks good, Jon!" I adjusted my visor and tried to get a good view of the approach.

It took a big bounce when it first landed on the front fringe, to the right of the pin. It careened forward, with a lot of momentum, spinning from the natural draw that had been a part of my swing since I'd started playing. Two quick more bounces to the left and then CLANK! My ball disappeared from our view, and sank into the cup.

My dad's friend turned to me: "Well, I guess drinks are on you. I'll take a Heineken. Nice shot."

My fav hole in one story that doesn't involve an actual hole in one:

Couple late teen acquaintances of mine are on the green of a short dogleft left par 4 at a muni course. Ball comes trickling up on the green as they're putting and they feel slighted. These two are notorious pranksters and well to do d*ckheads. They decide to pick up his Titleist X but replace it with a Titleist Y in the hole. Celebration ensues when the guy finds his ball and everything moves along.

After the round they wait in the clubhouse to witness the testimony. His group comes in hooting and hollering and tell the attendant to call the journal cuz ldo hole in one. So, my "friends" get the guys name and find his address and phone #. Literally for 5 years they'd call him every six months or so in the middle of the night telling him he's a fraud and liar and he didn't actually make that hole in one.

All this was before caller ID and when you could *67 to block the *69. It was pretty cruel but funny at same time. The guy finally broke down and admitted it wasn't his ball and asked to please stop calling because it was scaring his wife.

1st one - third or forth time ever playing, 16 years old. 7th hole, Muni course - 145 yd slight down hill - 7 iron. 3 hop into the hole.

2nd one - as a 30 something adult, 7 hdcp. 6th hole, mid level private club - 167 yd well guarded green. The ball never left the flag. Hit 15 feet under the hole and rolled straight in.

Witnessed one - Scioto Country Club (Jacks home course in Columbus), unbelievable track. 17th hole - significant uphill, well guarded. Playing with a guy that didn't break 95. Hole played about 205 - he hit 5 wood. He hit a high cut that landed softly and rolled in. Dude didn't even buy a round after we finished.

lol holy crap...that's dedication.

guessing i've witnessed 4 or 5...the most preposterous from a 25+ HC who thinned the hybrid of his life on a 180 yd par 3, never got more than 15 feet above the ground, and hit short of the green and curled it's way into the hole.

never had one myself. as strange as it seems, i've come the closest on the same hole twice. 12th at Bandon Dunes, ~150 yards. first time hit a few yards short of the pin and the ground curl lipped out within a foot. second time, after telling my group this was the hole i've come closest to a HO1, i one hopped off the stick to 6 inches.



my only two eagles have come from the fairway (so i kinda count those as HO1s.) 125 yds out with backspin and 160 yds out with a sweet draw and ~10 feet of green right into the hole with a satisfying 'clank' off the stick we could hear in the fairway.
