The PGA pulled their event from one of Trumps Florida resorts (and moved it to Mexico...lol) saying it was just business. But Trumps stance on Women and Womens issues should be considered for the Womens Open.

This is really more of a politard thread than a golf thread.

The USGA will have to decide if the plusses outweigh the minuses. If I'm a board member, which I am not, I am probably leaning toward leaving it.

Some reasons to leave it:

It's 8 months away. That is very little time to line up a replacement course and get the logistics sorted. There are reasons why major events are awarded years in advance.

Contracts are in place. Breaching those contracts may be rather expensive.

It's being held in the vicinity of NYC and will presumably garner extra attention as a result.

The USGA is not a political organization.

not a fan of trump at all.........

but has he really done anything to merit events not being held at one of his courses? is a wall with mexico that abhorrent an idea when there are more than 15 million immigrants and most people think it's a big problem. definitely he's made some bad comments but does that really merit moving events?

Yea I don't want it to be a political thread either - maybe move it if it gets that way. Just with the continual sexist, anti woman comments he has made it seems odd that an LPGA event would patronize one of his courses.

flabuck, i don't necessarily disagree with you..... i was sort of being devil's advocate.

alot of his official political views/plans more recently i think are minimally acceptable.... it's when he goes off on a personal tangent that his behaviour goes way over the line.

again devil's advocate. but keep in mind that at least 40% of US population and probably at least 20 states (maybe many more, not sure how electoral vote vs. population breaks down) will vote for him. what does that say about those people? not sure i know the answer myself

I get ya. It was just an article I read the other day explaining both the LPGA and the USGA's positions that got me thinking. Golf is a game with inherent social segregation. But more and more of the old school acceptability are being challenged. I guess I kind of expected more of a backlash from players and sponsors concerning trumps involvement. That said, if the players and sponsors don't see an issue who am I to say what is right and wrong?

It's kind of weird that Trump treats women as equals by talking with them the way men talk to each other, and all of the sudden, he's a big devil.

Get a life, bro.

And your thought on moving the event is what?

"Donald and I are pretty good friends,” Kerr said. “He’s made me an honorary member of all his courses.”

Kerr appeared in Trump’s reality show “The Apprentice” in 2005.

“We are so thrilled to be here at Trump Turnberry,” she said. “The tour loves Donald. Donald has done a lot for women’s golf, and I know the players certainly love him.”*

Lexi Thompson also sports a Trump Corporation logo on her bag. Gulbis does too, and she spoke at the RNC. I think Rocco Mediate also had Trump sponsorship as well as Jim Herman and probably others.

I don't think it should be moved, but I would totally support a boycott of the tournament if someone like Lizette Salas chose to. Or Jodi Ewart.

Thanks - didn't know all that. That makes sense as to why nothing will be done.

All about negotiating power. LPGA doesn't have that much. Masters/Augusta National does (did) when their membership was being questioned and they just made it commercial free. No PGA player boycotted or really said anything. I think today it would be different though.
