TY. I made notes on my yardage book each hole so I could remember.

what's the difference between the 9th and 10th holes at pebble?

very cursory analysis would suggest they are the same hole twice. completely awesome holes though.

probably my favourite spots to watch at pebble.

i did know the greens are really small at pebble. not sure if that comes through on tv like it does in person.

Pretty similar but #10 is (and plays a lot) shorter.

9th - 460y
10th - 429y

I hit a good drive on 9 that stopped on top of the hill. It takes a bit git to roll it down the hill. I had 5 iron from 193 (downhill, a touch downwind).

The 10th I did hit a bullet off the tee and had some rollout from the slope. I had 125y and a 50* into it.

I think 9 is more elevation change. 10 the driving area is tighter.

La Costa Legends Course

40-43--83 - 1 birdie, 1 double, rest pars and bogeys.

I was on the bogey train a lot, especially on the back 9. Lone birdie was on a 480ish yard par 5. Went driver, 4 iron into the front bunker and got up and down.

Not too difficult of a course. There were a couple of tee shots with large trees right off the tee box that basically block me from hitting driver, but not besides that.

The course is overrun by birds. No idea what they are but they are EVERYWHERE. Bird **** all over the course. For $20 though it was OK, not great by any means.

I played with a 12yo kid who was practicing for some junior world event. He played the red tees because that's what they play in the event, but he easily could have played the same tees as me. His driver was in the 260y range. He shot 81 with a quad on a hole. Pretty damn good.

Tried finding a course for early tomorrow morning but nothing to be had so no more golf for me until I get to Bandon on Tuesday.

Also, found out something with my driver today. I was teeing it up too low. Once I figured that out I hit it much better.

Almost forgot that I went to the Scotty Cameron Studio before I hit the golf course today. Really nice area in Encinitas a block off of the water. It looked like yuppy central with all of the people out for their morning bike ride with their Lance Armstrong biking shorts. Then they stop for coffee and breakfast burritos???

Anyways one thing is that no photography is allowed in the store. A little pretentious? Not the biggest store in the world and not a lot for sale either. Some shirts, sweaters, etc.

I did get a new grip for my putter along with a shirt. They threw on a shaft band for free that looks pretty cool IMO.

The burritos are good though. I used to live a few blocks from the Scottie store, not sure if it was there yet.

Yeah most new drivers are dog **** if you hit it low on the face so you really need to tee it high.

I was regretting having to drive to LAX from Orange County so I changed my flight to SNA. Good news is that gets me into PDX early and I booked an earlier time Tuesday for Pacific Dunes with a replay at Old Mac later in the day.

Very nice, I think it would be cool to get a job as a caddie out there.

I was talking to a caddie at Bandon this past week and he said his goal was to get 400 bags a year. You can do the math on the $100 rate plus tips. I'd estimate a third to half of his rounds are double-bagging. He did say he has very generous privlidges on the courses but didn't elaborate.

Is the rate Bandon charges before tip all go directly to the caddy?

Sadly the only caddie experience I have is a few loops for some friends in the city championship.

The geese aren't Canadian. They have no nationality.

The Caddies at Bandon are independent contractors and don't work for the resort. I don't know if there is some sort of 'tipping' between caddie and caddie master.

Nice. That wind should make for a fun round without being unplayable.

just took a peek at the course cameras. looks like the wind is blowing pretty good right now (based on the movement of flags and trees) but it also appears that it isn't constantly raining...more like a series of light squalls with sun inbetween.

Pacific Dunes in the morning - 43-40--83

Winds were 20-25 mph throughout the round. 3 3-putt bogeys on the front and a 3-putt par on the back. The sun was out for most of the round and it was around 60*. About a good as you are gonna get. Wind could have been a little less.

Old Mac in the afternoon - 43-42--85

****ing impossible. Winds were 30 mph sustained. They anticipated a ton of rain today so they put the pins in the highest spot on each green, meaning they were in about the hardest spots imaginable. I have no idea how many times I three putted, bit it was a lot.

The 4th hole was playing 476y (par 4) against the 30m mph wind. I hit one of my better drives of the day followed by a bullet 2h and I was about 30y short of the green.

The wind kicked up to 40 mph and it started raining on the 9th hole. That hurt the face a little bit. By the time we reached the 10th tee though the sun was back out. Rained another 3 times on me before the end of the round, but nothing near as bad as the 9th.

Highlights:

Birdied the 6th. Almost drove the green (288y), with a hybrid. I also hit a LOT of greens today and had a lot of good looks at birdie, especially at Pacific. Didn't lose a ball all day, no penalties. Not saying a ton on these courses but I kept it in the fairway all day (again, not saying much here either).

Lowlights:

Putting x3 - just bad on the greens.

Playing Old Mac and Bandon Dunes tomorrow. Was going to try to play the preserve but I don't think my legs will hold up. I'm sore right now and I go off first tomorrow at 7:30.
