Just keep ur eye on this kid now that hes finally broke his duck by winning the dubai desert classic. I felt that when he won his 1st tournament the 2nd and 3rd etc...wont b to far behind...mark o'meara says he reminds him of tiger woods when he was 19 so when u get a compliment like that from such a close friend of tigers u gta stand up and take notice...gl 2 him

Mind u he nearly blew it AGAIN down the stretch but held on to win by 1 shot from justin rose

Hardest thing in golf is winning

He's a talent for sure. Bit concerned about how he threw up all over himself a few times in the past. He will obviously do ok regardless....but comparisons with Tiger don't quite wash with me yet.

It will take a while before we really can see how he handles his very great potential. Just look at Sergio. Only in the last year has he been able to go to the absolute top in the world (and if he could only putt). Sergio is about 10 years older than Rory.

But there will hopefully be lots of excitement from McIlroy in the coming weeks and years.

McIlroy will be the player this week who gets the most points for the world rankings as there are more points on the European Tour this week than for the FBR Open (at least I have been told that it is so).

Delighted for him after 2 playoff losses. First saw him play when he was 13 in an U-21 tournament that I was playing in and you knew even then he was an awesome talent.

I'm real excited about this kid coming on to the scene. I watched him lose the lead at the tourney in Switzerland, and I felt real bad for him. He crushes the ball. I hope he's figured out how to win.

Saw him play at the KLM-Open last year. Looked like a 12 year old girl.

But great player, and potential. Saw him warm-up on the driving range earlier that day, he got really good length on his shots.

When I left the gym yesterday morning he had a six stroke lead with seven to play. By chance I turned on the TV when I got home to watch his lead shrink to one.

Glad he won but to be honest I was hoping for a playoff with Rose (I am generally always hoping for a playoff). That last hole was about 60% McIlroy nutting up and getting a sand save and 40% Rose's inability to get a birdie from the middle of the fairway after a good drive on a par-5. After all, Louis Oosthuizen was also in that group and bombed it over the green in two and had a ten foot birdie putt or so, which he made.

Even without Tiger in the field I consider this event a must-watch every year. Always a good field and a pretty interesting course.

I'm a county Down boy myself and it's great to see him break his
professional duck.
I hope the media don't succeed with the usual put them on a pedestal
to knock them down routine.
Don't think they will though, Rory seems very well grounded and level
headed.
Heres hoping for a long career.

Pretty funny going through all his swing vids on youtube because the umbrellas are out in almost every vid.

Silly Brits and their weather!

He Will but just not yet...learn his trade through the European Tour which i might add is pretty big nowadays considering the prize awaiting the players in Dubai (Race to Dubai) He will prob play a few tournaments on the Tour but wont b full time on the PGA Tour another 5 years i would say. Remember he is only 19

Rory is a supercool guy, he was drawn in a practice round with my friend about 3-4 years ago in the British boys amateur championship and i was walking around with my friend during the PR obv, as there was so much hype about this guy from junior world cup etc, and he was a really cool guy.

tbh, he was always gonna do well for himself with the talent he has, and im really pleased for him to see him doing awesome now.

go go Rory..!

From David Ogrin-
Oh gosh I just read a post picking apart the putting stroke of Rory McIlroy. Really? Really? Here is a secret from the heat of battle. When you are playing your best and putting your best you are thinking of nothing. Your brain is quiet. If you think you can go out and hole a clutch putt thinking of the mechanics of your stroke you just don't know what it's like to have clutch putts and win on tour. You practice the mechanics so you don't have to think about them when the heat is on. In the heat being quiet and fluid are way more important than any mechanic or path or or or. Rory right now is by far the best at NOT thinking and being mechanical. He is free and fluid and awesome. If you don't grasp that you just don't know.
