Being totally honest, over the last month, have you put more time in practicing putting with your driver or your putter? (i'm not counting warmup before a round, just actual practice)

I have never putt with a driver prior to 3 days ago. I putt on the practice green for about 3 minutes after this bet was established before a Sunday round, it seemed easy.

Today I woke up and went to a range and putt with a driver for probably another 5 minutes, it was easy. After I decided it was easy I stopped because I looked weird on a putting green with a driver and because I knew it was pretty easy.

Over the last month I have probably spent very little time practicing putting with either a driver or a putter. I can promise you, not including the round today, in my life I have spent less than 15 minutes putting with a driver total.

This was not an angle, I am good at improvising. In college I beat a roommate of mine who was decent at ping pong with a boxed VHS tape of Braveheart as a paddle with no practice.

I was fairly confident that the putting wouldn't be a problem.

Gotta give credit where credit is due.

So now that you've accepted and won the prop bet, who are you going down soon on?

Good stuff man. Hopefully you can bring some of that positive mojo to 14 clubs now

Pretty sick putting dude. I think maybe a belly putter should be in your short term plans if you putt that well with a bellied driver.

Ha, yeah you're right.

I was using a very liberal interpretation of the word "decent" there and probably overstated things a bit. What I meant was that he would play in the dorms and was average compared to the other students who would just mess around playing pong between classes. He was pretty bad though.

I would probably call a 130 average bowler "decent" also because I'd be comparing them to everyone who bowls casually. In a league they would be on the low end of the spectrum.

I didn't anchor it like a belly putter. The butt was actually brushing against my shirt during the stroke which I didn't like. I've tried belly putters in golf stores a few times and didn't feel comfortable with them.

I wasn't suggesting you were angling or sandbagging your sick driver-putting skills. I was just curious as you seemed really surprised that you putted nearly as well with your driver as you normally would have using a putter. It got me thinking about how much you practice (or don't) your actual putting if just a few minutes of getting a feel with the driver produced results similar to your standard putting.

I'm looking back at your posts now and I can't seem to figure out exactly what my point was, so don't worry too much about it. I definitely wasn't anywhere in the ballpark of trying to call you out on anything though.

*edit* Of course, I don't think once getting a feel for it that putting with ANY club is really that hard for someone that has a good feel around the greens in general

Somebody on Tour, although I'm blanking on the name, uses a belly length putter but then doesn't anchor it, just lets it swing like a normal putter.

Was it the 17 year old kid during the Open? Or maybe he used a stand-putter as a belly putter? I don't know...

Pretty sure Angel Cabrera did this in winning the 2007 Masters.

Robert Garrigus uses an 'almost chest-length' putter (a few inches shorter than it should be for his height) that he doesn't anchor. He has managed to move from 166 to 142 in the putts gained stat, so I guess it's working for him.
