For those who say it's tournament fatigue (PGA being last of four majors), I'll counter with tennis...I don't think anyone believes the US Open is the weakest of the four - probably #2 (Wimbledon being like The Masters), depending on whom you ask.

Perhaps the PGA should switch time slots with the US Open...

Aside from being a major, there is nothing to distinguish the event from the other regular stops. Also, the broadcast has an extraordinary amount of commercials...seemingly more than any other event.

I think in golf, as in tennis, the venue makes a big difference. Wimbledon, the US Open, and even Roland Garros have a sense of place and history that for whatever reason the Australian does not.

Baltusrol is not a memorable course. That plus the weather hurt it more than the timing imo. Majors should be at the best courses, the ones that look amazing on TV and feel more special than the average tour stop. Pebble, Torrey Pines, Augusta, etc.

The Players has probably eclipsed the PGA at this point mainly because it is played on a unique and interesting course that looks great on TV.

The PGA really does have a ridiculous amount of commercials.

Yep.

Played Baltusrol twice in the 80's when I played the amateur MGA tourneys all over the metro area. Both times walked away shaking my head wondering how it is still in the rotation. Tons of area courses WAY better.

This course is purely center of the fairway/center of the green targeting with all the holes blend together into vanilla. When you get to #11...you kinda have to pinch yourself..."wow, a dogleg". ( to be fair, #3 calls for a draw tee shot)
