Glad Nick Watney stuck to his guns there and didn't take the penalty. 4 extra fantasy points for me.

It could be just me, but there almost seems to be a vibe in those situations where the player is expected to take the penalty because it's the "honorable" thing and so they don't risk being labeled as a cheat. That's why I like it when a player feels they didn't break the rules and won't just accept a penalty to avoid controversy.

Then again that could just be me.

That whole thing was just weird. There's no way an experienced caddy would do that, but I was nearly certain on one of the brushes I saw some resistance initially that could only come from the grass.

And then there was the way both player and caddy were acting and talking on camera. It was almost like both got some good Maui Waui on the islands. And that would explain the caddy doing something incredibly stupid.

Nick seemed high as a kite and the caddy had to of been on something also. Who in their right mind would be making those hand gestures first of all? It doesn't make any sense and Curt Byrum failed for not following up on the "what were you thinking" question. I think they were both on something and probably a good chance the caddy was tripping and seeing **** on the green.

Re: Official 2012 PGA Tour (non-majors) discussion thread

I'll give it a shot...

On the 7th green Watney is crouched behind a putt and his caddy is crouched directly behind him. His caddy then starts waving his hand over the green, back and forth a few times. The first time or two you can tell his hand is above the green by a few inches. Then on the last couple of passes it looks like he is actually brushing the grass, which can/would be construed as "testing the surface".

They then announce that "Slugger" White will talk to him after the round before he signs his card. The announcers also uniformly declare that this is a "blatant" violation and he will see this and take the obvious 2 stroke penalty.

2 hours later he gets called into a trailer and is given a chance to review the footage. When its all settled he and his caddy come out and give an interview where they both appear to be on shrooms (which would also explain why his caddy was waving his hand around as it was presumably creating some sick trails which looked totally bitchin' over the dancing blades of grass).

The verdict: "My caddy would never be stupid enough to touch the grass, he's been doing this for 11, 12, 13, possibly 14 years, I don't know. LOL. He says he didn't touch the grass so I'm just gonna go with that. This game is weird." -Nick Watney

"I didn't intend to do wrong doings." - Possibly tripping caddy

Re: Official 2012 PGA Tour (non-majors) discussion thread

This is why people hate the rules of golf. 28 players making up a good field each play an entire round in the opening event of the season. The big story ends up being the four seconds it took one player's caddy to maybe run their hand over the green, which was in no way an attempt to gain a competitive advantage and resulted in nothing anyway.

For those saying Watney is high, watch any interview he does. He falls all over himself anytime the camera is in front of him so I doubt he was high cause he always has the deer in the headlights look. Idk what his caddy could have possibly been doing, who knows about him.

yeah i guess he's probably just a stoner, i mean where would he actually have had the chance to smoke? Wouldn't it be insanely risky to try anywhere near the venue with cameras everywhere?
