i see a few threads on different specific topics. thought we should just start thread.

i see eugene wong (2 time pac 10 player of year from oregon) and tony (one of the samoan brothers from utah) both passed stage 1 at dayton valley in nevada.

about 40% of the qualifiers end today. a bunch of others in next few weeks.

a whole bunch of western canadians (including nick taylor) at san juan oaks in hollister, ca later this month.

i think about 70 start at each site and it looks like there are about 15 first level sites. so say 1100 to 1200 guys. you have to have qualified already to get here. either pre-qualifying tournament or had some tournament history

and 19 guys plus ties make stage 2. so say 300 guys at stage 2.. then not sure how stage 2 works numerically. or how many guys play stage 3? stage 3 is just at one course with all the players together.

i see nick taylor, former world amateur #1, sitting at 3rd place at san juan oaks in california. wes heffernan inside top 19 there too. a few canadians scattered a little outside the top 19 at the 4 sites.

A lot more than 300 guys at 2nd stage. 6 sites with ~78 players is 468 entrants. Don't forget about the guys automatically exempt into 2nd stage. And as with 1st stage, the top 18-20 plus ties advance from each site.

Usually 168 guys at final stage.

thx. i often forget about nationwide and pga guys. i'm guessing no one is exempt to stage 3. what about guys trying to improve pga or nationwide status? do they do 2 and 3? or only 3?

Do the math on the stats I previously gave you and you'll have the answer to that question.

Only final stage to improve PGA Tour status, not certain about improving Nationwide status but probably both 2 and 3.

BO thanks...

i did the math but wasn't sure... do 126 to 175 then get stage 3 and ergo nationwide for next year minimum? i might be wrong on it being 126 thru 175

I don't know every single detail on each spot and such, (yeah yeah, that admission will attract the haters) but 126-150 get conditional status on the PGA tour the following year and are exempt into final stage. 151+ I believe are exempt into 2nd stage, not sure about possible web.com status the following year but I think there is some sort of status. Then there are veteran tour players who will always have some sort of PGA Tour status due to things such as career cuts made.

Anybody that makes it to final stage has at least conditional status on the web.com tour the following year. It's this reason why for many golfers 2nd stage has the most pressure.

I'll admit the various statuses on PGA sponsored tours can be pretty complicated.

Mitch is a really solid player. I followed him around the Alberta Open in September and he told me he's hitting it better than he ever has. He went into the final round up by 4 before Wes Heffernan shot the lights out on Sunday to win it.

A buddy of mine from home, Derek Ernst is T7 after the first round in CA. I believe he was 3rd at Pre-Q and top 10 at 1st stage. He also played the Frys.com Open via the Monday qualifier and made the cut finishing around 40th. He is very solid, played college golf at UNLV and was probably one of the more underrated players. He was runner up at the US Pub Links last year and then made it to the semis this year.

Another guy with connections to Fresno is Bhavik Patel, he's T12 after the first round. Played at Fresno State, won the CA State Am last year. He didn't have a very notable career in college. I think he did pretty well but never a big name but he is pure, probably one of the best ball strikers I have seen and takes it deep.

Yeah looking at that section, how about Andrew Loupe finishing -9 over his last 12 holes to make it too! I imagine his blood was flowing a lil bit.

How about bio Kim finishing with an eagle on 18 to get to -10 at Craig ranch.....to miss by one. Had to think -9 had a chance and -10 was a lock.

Brutal.

It boggles my mind that it took -11 to get through out there. Every night I sifted through the scores and just scratched my head. Of course I have no idea how the course was set up.

These guys are good.

wow, 2 canadians went really low to make it in taxas (redstone)

richard scott, ex- georgia bulldog, and roger sloan from merritt bc and UTEP

i see matt hill, nc state and former #2 amateur in world, made it too. 4 excellent rounds

nick taylor, ex world #1 amateur and UW, had a poor 3rd round. work to do as with eugene wong (oregon duck)

EDIT: asleep at switch, scott and sloan didn't go low in 4thnround but they did make it... and matt hill's only thru 3rd round
