DoubleEagle,

i believe the problem is not that you are off plane. you actually seem to get back to plane pretty well. at the top, the face of the club is closed shut. (just like my current problem). you need to get that clubhead pointed towards the target (at the top of the BS) rather than waaaayyy right of the target.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

As I mentioned earlier, there are a few things going on. The move up with the hands is accompanied by my left shoulder moving down and towards the ball, this has the effect of shutting the club face even though its not being rotated closed.

Here's video of the same swing.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Just back from the range, I'm getting closer.

Looks good at the top...

Except that wasn't the top...

This is the top, still way across the line, looks mostly like extra wrist ****.

Getting it back on plane much better though.

And fairly close at impact, still a tad over.

That move at the very top is perplexing, I definitely don't feel like I'm manipulating the club at the top, perhaps its all happening as the result of the little move with my head and left shoulder towards the ball?

Edited to add my setup for reference:

You need a second plane line.

http://www.motionprosoftware.com/analyzing_golf.htm

You also need to be sure that the camera is positioned properly in relation to you and your target.

I'm guessing the camera angle is a little outside of where it should be.
If not,
then you appear to be setting up closed.

If I could give you a tip, it would be to forget about your swing plane for now, and focus on widening your arc.

And it may be beneficial if you'd post a pic of your grip. My guess is it is too strong.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Just saw 'Feherty's five'. He was in one of the medic facilities on the tour with a nail that was a bit blue, and asked them what they could do to help help.

The medic explained how they would spray something on and remove the nail.

Suddenly Feherty was feeling much better............

Pretty good. This reminds me of the circa 1980s framed illustrations of fake holes that were exotic and impossible. Like short par-3s over huge yawning canyons, etc. Pretty sweet line, I'd see them in bars and pro shops. I don't think they made a whole lot of them though.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

golf club etiquette question:

my gf and i went for a couple of free 15 minute lessons with the new pro at the closest club here. she also ended up getting a half hour lesson. so 45 minutes for her and 15 for me.

the pro is our age. seems really cool, sports fan, knew what he was talking about swing-wise, some good pointers and things to work on for both of us, wasn't a college golfer, but used to work at Pinehurst before moving to our little town together with his gf. i'll probably end up going back to him for some more lessons.

what's the proper way to ask if he wants to play golf with me and my buddies? i am not looking for free advice from him, just a different setting. it's a bit weird because usually i gotta pay money to get his attention for 30 minutes. thought i'd ask here.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Well, if he's a full time pro, he prob doesnt have much time. Idk, if you really want to play with him just ask him if he's got an afternoon off soon.

If he's new in town, he's prob lookin to meet new people so go for it.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Couple questions.

Does anybody have a suggestion for a website that tracks your golf scores, and all that? My instructor just sent me one that's $10, but if there's one that's free might as well do that.

Also. Does anybody find that they get worse after a lesson? I was doing great at my first lesson, and fixed a ton of stuff. Went out and my iron's went to hell. Now my driver's back to slicing, and I'm more confused then ever trying to fix these things.

http://www.oobgolf.com/ quite a few 2p2ers on here iirc

its probably going to take some time to fix stuff, you can't just magically expect to take a lesson, apply what you've learned and then be fixed right away

can someone compare these two swings:

Is it just me, or are they completely different?

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

it seems like you would have to really suck to not be on the pgatour with that kind of length. But I guess he is probably very inaccurate and a lot of guys on tour could hit it a lot longer than they do if that was all they were going for. And he probably is a + handicap for sure.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Reactions of people who have watched me hit drives, grouped by skill:

18+ handicaps: wow that's awesome any tips?
10-18: LOL HOWS THE SHORTGAME?
3-10: BUT CAN YOU PUTT? ROFL HA HA
+3-3: wow come play in a scramble
PGA tour: holy sh*t that landed on the green. *throws me half a dozen balls and calls over more pros* Watch this guy hit some drives. You won't believe it.

It took some searching but I found a site that sells the ones I was referring to:

http://www.golfun.net/chap_prints.htm

And here are some of the ones I saw most commonly, with accompanying description:

No. 1
Victoria Falls Golf Course
168 Yards. Par 3. Number 7 handicap.
Sir Peregrine Hunnicutt, O.K.E., one of golf's patriarchs in Southwestern Africa, calls this "by all odds, one of the challenging holes in your part of the continent'. "The confident player may go for the green but the tee shot must be struck with crisp authority in order to avoid perhaps considerable inconvenience in the depths which separate the tee from the green".

No. 4
Grand Canyon Country Club
287 Yards, Par 4. Number 9 handicap.
Short and straight, but nevertheless demanding. The long hitter can gain the green with his drive and indeed there has been some argument among the arrogant as to whether a slight left to right fade is preferable to a straight right to left draw. However, most play two irons to the green and are satisfied with par and an occasional birdie.

No. 7
Desert Winds Municipal Golf Course
39 Yards, Par 3
Short but deceptively difficult, involving a 682 yard descent through often dramatic changes in temperature and winds. Indeed, the weather factor can be absolutely damnable making club selection difficult and crucial. Depending on wind direction, tee shots may be stroked lightly with a putter or thunderously with a driver, The imbedded ball applies on this Number 5 handicap hole.
