Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

i'm looking at picking up some tickets for the upcoming PGA Championship at Hazeltine. i think i'm just going to get some practice round tickets as i'm not sure how much i'd enjoy watching the actual tournament in person but i might change my mind. there are basically two options, you can get tickets that are for grounds general admission or wanamaker tickets that are more expensive but apparently give you access to some pimped out tent. if i go with the cheaper general admission ones does this give me access to the entire course? can i just walk around from hole to hole or does it restrict me to a certain area of the course and are cameras allowed?

Cheaper tickets get you grounds access, shouldn't restrict the holes you can see.

Cameras are usually allowed on practice days, not during tournament.

Cavity back clubs are much more forgiving. There's nothing wrong with blades, it's just that the sweet spot is much smaller. Off center hits are going to be much worse than with cavity backs.

If you can consistently hit a spot the size of a dime, then blades are fine, but that's just not the case for 90% of amateurs.

Everyone will play practice rounds, most will play 2 at least.

Sometimes I wish I could carry a driver 340...

... because I might be able to reach dry land from the whites.

sometimes many inches of rain do not do a course good.

I'm gonna throw a wild guess out there...cart path only? Or do they send you out in your own personal power boats?

I'm looking to try them out, then go on ebay and buy a used one.

I really suck at golf, I have never had a real driver, and I dont want to invest alot of money. Mainly I just want something cheap and forgiving.

Mizuno MX560
r5
ft-i
sumo2

I think the ft-i would be the upper limit for how much i am willing to spend (about $110 used iirc). I just like the way it looks. I haven't hit it yet, but I have a feeling that I will be very confident. I think in general I like the square shape of new drivers.

Check out the Cleveland Hibore XLS. I just picked one up new for ~$110 on ebay. After one trip to the range, I was very happy. Seemed very forgiving on my misses and the good swings looked great. I'll be testing it out on the course this weekend.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

I really need to stop spending so much time on ebay.

I think I'm pretty much done putter ho-ing (only bought one so far this year after 20+ last year), but I guess if I see the right deal on a Sabertooth or a Spider....

Anyway, recently I've been putting in a lot of modest bids on fairway woods. I picked up a Sonartec SS-07 16* 4 wood which arrived yesterday, so I had to run out to the course tonight to try it out. Only managed to hit it five times in nine holes but so far I'm loving it. Seems to be easy to get a high trajectory off the deck, no major hookage.

On second thought, maybe I need to spend more time on ebay...

Next up, some kind of sunday bag so I can grab half a dozen clubs and walk a super quick nine...

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

I just ordered a used Ping G2i C67 putter on ebay about 40 seconds ago.
Its center shafted, never tried one so it will be interesting.
Its got an iomic grip??.

I think its hard to miss for $10 shipped imo.
Ebays a sweet site.

I pretty much use amazon for everything, but for clubs, ebay seems better. I think I'm gunna buy a wedge or two, and slowly work on my short game while I find a deal for some irons, woods, and driver.

I'm no ebay pro, but imo: add all the items your intersted to "watch this item".

Also when searching for "callaway" stuff, misspell it and search for "calloway". The later will usually yeild 20-50 results in golf items. They are prolly included under "callaway" items as well but, idk, maybe they arnt?
