This sounds like what happens to me a lot of the time. I worked on not trying to kill the ball but subconsciously I still do try to crush it.

I think it boils down to me trying to minimize the amount of time between backswing and contact, which my mind thinks lowers the chance of a bad club head position at impact. Doesn't make any sense but I still do it unless I really concentrate on that particular aspect.

The thing I really need to nail is rolling my wrists over correctly, but for that to work I need a way better stance. Every time I try to roll my wrists it turns into a massive hook that flies low and smokes the ground.

random question on bestball charity tourneys... Is there a particularly order that's best to follow, basically I'm shooting with 2 randoms and my buddy who us sick good. Is it best for him to generally go first ir last? Figure if first he he hits a good shot all the pressures off and those of us that are average can swing away, or if he goes last we know he is out anchor and we can still blast away... Is there and optimum way to order it?

When it's comes to putting I have always put best putter last so they get to see the line 3 times if we all miss...

w/r/t driving, just from a theory point of view, it would probably depend on how good he (and to a lesser degree, the other three) is. If you put him first, and he doesn't hit one well, it puts more pressure on the rest of you and can cause you guys to all take some off.

I'd say, start off with the worst guy. Tell him to just try to put something in play. If he puts one in a position that's playable, the rest of you can just blast off. If he doesn't, move on down the line until someone hits a safe shot, leaving the guys who can hit the farthest for the end.

I have no idea on the other 2 guys, friend is doing the tourney and paired us up at last minute. The idea I get is they are meh based on when I described how good my friend is he thought I was being sarcastic and stated don't worry about it they are not that good.

He generally drives 260-300 and I cannot recall him hitting a bad drive, also once witnessed him hit a 6i 210yds... if he hits a bad drive by chance most of mine are playable just lack his distance.

In that case, have him hit first and then use your tee shots to practice your weakest club.

But I agree with you on the best putter last. Have everyone try to hole it first, showing the line and speed.

Let the best player hit last on every shot. He is most likely to be able to handle the pressure of having no ball in play when he hits last.

On a related note, we have a little mens league 9 hole scramble at my club every Tuesday night. This week I got the roughest draw ever. For approach shots on the Par 3s and 4s, my partners got exactly 1 ball total, not per hole, total on the green in front of me before I hit it. Not our best night.

Watching Golf Channel's rerun of their Nationwide coverage and they showed a guy who wore two gloves, even while putting. For some reason I thought wearing two gloves was illegal (obviously it isn't, and I have no idea why I thought that). Anyone ever try it? My right hand gets a fair amount of blisters and such (I'm a righty), and it seems like it'd be nice to reduce that--it was especially bad because I had gone about a month without golfing before a driving range session a week ago. Or am I just gripping the club poorly? FWIW the worst blister/callus on my right hand is right between my index and middle finger at the base, with smaller ones on my middle finger, index finger, and thumb.

Whenever I get blisters, it's one of three things: either I haven't swung a lot lately (so at the start of the season, pretty much), I swing a ton during a practice session at the range (rarely happens though once hands are in golf shape) or I'm gripping the club too tightly. Even so, I'm a lefty and only wear a glove on my right hand, and my left hand never gets blisters.

Yeah once I fixed my grip the blisters pretty much stopped entirely.

Tommy "two gloves" Gainey iirc.

I only wear two gloves when it's raining (rain gloves ldo) or really cold (winter gloves), but I played with a guy a while back who wore two because his hands sweated a ridiculous amount.

I don't know for sure but I'd tend to think that you have a grip problem if you're getting blisters on your right hand - looking at mine I don't even have calluses. Probably gripping it too tight. Also, what kind of grips do you have on your clubs? Some are obviously rougher than others.

I have 3 callouses; one on my left hand at the base of my index finger, one on my right index and one on my right middle-finger near the bottom. I would never wear two gloves though, it wouldn't feel right and it would look even more ridiculous. I just put a little bit of medical tape around the two on my right-hand and have at it.

Being a ****ty golfer sucks. Saw my swing on video for the first time in a month and a half after having played really well and then progressively worse. Man was that ugly

Quick question:

Do I want to stand up straighter when I'm starting off my swing or should I have my back hunched down a little more with my a.ss out a little bit more?

I used to swing with a more crouched butt out stance, then my friends told me to straighten up more, then I played golf with a asian guy who told me I don't want to stand up so straight.

I guess I can hit the ball pretty well both ways but what's better?

It's definitely taking some getting used to--I had my share of 100+ rounds when I started, and I've still got a long way to go before I put up scores in the low 60s (or 50s). I think the putting system is good, but there are a few too many courses where the tough difficulty settings leave you with almost impossible putts (ones that roll back to right where they started, scoot 30 feet past the hole, etc.).

I was hoping the long game would be pretty similar to real life, but it's too easy. But maybe it'll be good practice anyway. I haven't been able to play in more than 3 weeks (mostly due to lots and lots of rain), so this is the next best thing.

In any case, I'd be up for some friendly online matches with fellow 2+2'ers. EA account name is the same as this one.

I'm gona buy this game pretty soon also, I'll PM you when I get it.

How do you play online on Wii tho?

It can connect to a Wi-Fi network. And it has USB ports that you can use if you have an Ethernet to USB adapter.

I hope the mods don't mind me posting completely off-topic up in here, but this is really one of the only forums I contribute to.

Just sailed on the Oasis of the Seas last week with my family and thought I'd throw some of the pictures up.

I use two gloves...sometimes white, sometimes the bad weather gloves...although I think the bad weather gloves from Footjoy are the best regardless of weather. Put a little water on them and they have great tread through an entire round.

I played tennis through college, so I have a huge callous buildup on my right hand that became very annoying, so I started wearing the second glove. I also use a baseball grip, so the "grip" on the club is very important to me.(self taught) It has helped me tremendously.

The only downside is getting used to putting and chipping with both gloves on...I dont take them off for an entire round...which also leads to what I call the "Glove Tan". My forearms are dark as hell, but my hands look like bleach.

Looks like I'm going to go see Slicefixer(Geoff Jones) sometime soon. Anyone in Texas or Arkansas that wants to meet up for a round?

Cool. Expect a TR.

I'm in Tupelo, MS, if you (or anyone) comes this way, give me a shout and we'll play.

Ok, some newbie tipping questions:

Most of the time I play at cheap munis, and I walk more often than not. And most of them have fairly little in the way of employees. So I don't usually feel much need to tip anyone, seeing as the only person I talk to is the cashier. (One of the munis I play at, I'll sometimes use a cart, but the parking lot is between the clubhouse (where the carts are) and Hole #1, so there's no real opportunity for any cart boys to help. There's usually a few guys washing carts, but they don't seem to interact with customers as much as at nicer courses.) Last week I was playing at a muni and caught up with the guy in front of me after a few holes and we played together. He orders one beer on the front and one and the back, and he doesn't have cash so the cart girl has to run his credit card back to the club house. He gets the receipt to sign for it and feels terrible that there's no way for him to leave a tip.

A few days later I go to play at a fairly nice public course (usual green/cart fees in the $60-$70 range, but they have a $30 deal after 4:30 p.m.). Since I'm not sure of the situation here, I park my car, get out and walk to the clubhouse to pay, then walk back to my car to grab my clubs, then walk to the carts. I get there, 16-year-old upper-middle-class white kid says "Let me get that for you" and takes ten seconds to put my clubs on the back of the cart. Should I really tip him for that? I guess the proper procedure here is to drop off my bag, park, go to the cashier, then come back out, in which case I can see why a tip might be expected, but I really have no need for service like that. Just let me put my bag on myself and play. I drive off, play my round, and decide to buy a Sprite from a cart girl during the round. Having seen how horrible the guy felt the other day, I let her keep the 50 cents change on a $3 Sprite. Is that OK?

(Side note: why does our culture treat tips for alcoholic beverages completely differently from tips on other stuff? I almost never tip anyone at a fast-food restaurant, coffee shop, ice cream parlor, or other counter-service place, but tips at a bar are always expected (and I almost always do tip), no matter how little work is done, even just opening a can of beer.)

After the round, the aforementioned 16-year-old upper-middle-class white kid (I think it was the same one) is busy helping a married couple who finished just before I did, so he doesn't have a chance to help me. I drive to my car, throw the bags in the trunk, and start to drive the cart back to where the other carts are. Another 16-year-old upper-middle-class white kid stops me and says, "I can take that for you." Am I supposed to tip him, too? Again, I guess the standard procedure would have been for a cart boy to intercept me coming off the course, but obviously there will be times when people either deliberately avoid the help, or the cart boys are busy with other customers and the customer unloads his clubs himself.
