That is what makes it fun. Someone would have to have a miserable life if they played the front tees and then went 9 iron 9 iron on every par 4 to play it safe.

I've said this in another thread, but I think Arcadia Bluffs is a poor man's Whistling Straits. The elevation change and views are just awesome! It's a good test with a variation in hole lengths on all par 3's, 4's, and 5's. Yes there are a few inland holes, but you can still see the lake from every hole which is pretty cool. As said by the other guy, the greens can be rather difficult. Great three hole stretch of 11, 12, and 13. They are building a second course to open in 2018 I believe which will make the trip much more worthwhile since it is in the middle of nowhere.

The key is to make it an extended trip and play some of northern Michigan's other great courses. Or do other touristy stuff.

I appreciate all the info on Arcadia Bluffs. Looks like its not going to work out for me this year, but I should be able to make it sometime in the next year or 2.

Back to this course tomorrow. I really really love it. Brutally punishes you if you are above the hole, tons of slop you can use to funnel your ball to where you want(or send it the wrong way) Fairly open from tee to green but still interesting.

Been striping my driver at the range. On the course however I cannot hit a fairway. I'm a righty, and on dog leg rights I have no issue with my driver. Dog leg left or just a straight hole I'm all over the place. But went to the range today and hit about 70 balls all pretty much perfect. Any tips?

Watch your alignment. Go on the course and set up, then lay the club inline with your feet and step back and look at where you are aiming. I've run into holes where they don't fit my eye and I have trouble getting aligned. For example, sometimes tee boxes aim you way left or way right.

Good stuff. You can just play an entire practice round using a shaft to line up first and just play with it on the ground while swinging.

Do you think I'm having an alignment problem? Or is it mental? Sometimes I feel like I'm aiming instead of just swinging because I'm afraid of the trouble.

RE: alignment, I feel like doing the Jason Day technique of standing a few feet directly behind the ball and visualizing the path, helps with alignment.

One of my friends believes I'm standing too close to the golf ball on my drives. Any drills or techniques to test this theory?

Make sure you are actually aiming and hitting the ball where you're aimed on the range. Striping the ball all over the place feels good, but it may not actually be going where you want it to go.

not sure if grass or mat range, but i've found practicing on mats can be deceptive. often the visual alignment of the mat (specifically the two part mats with a line between your feet and the ball) is not on the same line as the target in the distance. your feet may be square to the ball on the mat and the ball may go to a target, but the mat line and the target line may not be the same. this can create misalignment habits on the course that may be hard to break (or notice).

I would highly recommend doing your preshot practice routine on every single ball you hit on the range and make sure it includes some sort of target acquiring from behind the ball as you approach it to take your address. Then repeat on the course with a very specific target.

Enjoy.

Ha, that always bothers me. I shift the mat square to where I'm aiming or else I start compensating in other ways.

I would rather not practice at all if I had to hit off of mats. Between my shoulder and wrist issues it's just too much of an impact. Also hitting off of mats screws up your lofts and like in no time flat.

I'm a picker, so mat or grass doesn't really make a difference to me.

Dr Schol's foot powder spray is amazing. Spray it on the face and hit some balls and see where on the face you are hitting. It's incredible feedback.
Dry erase markers apparently work well too

But be careful, the problem can just as easily be a swing path issue so you may just be making a false conclusion.

I had a season pass to a range that had mats and had to cut my season 2 months short because my elbow hurt so bad. I will warm up on mats for 30 balls but that is it.

Played 9 holes tonight. Hit the driver on the range absolutely perfect for 60 swings. Nice high fade right down Broadway. Get up to the first tee, and I duff it into the woods. Second tee, another duff. Wtf is wrong with me? On the range you would think I was a golfer who shoots in the 70's. Really frustrating. I try to visualize the range too, but I just cannot carry it over. But my second shots and short game are money thankfully, so my score is somewhat respectable.

That's really weird. Did you really hit 60 drivers on the range? That's a ton of drivers to hit. You may have worn yourself out. You don't have to hit a ton of balls just to warm up. The only other thing I can think of is to work on getting a really detailed and solid pre-shot routine.

Nah I'm having a bout of the choking on the first few holes. Once I get my two quads out of the way, I start hitting it straight again. Just seems like the first two tee shots are getting in my head.

Are you playing the same course? If so, hit a different club off the first tee maybe? I have a hole that gives me fits for no good reason since it sets up perfectly so I have been hitting an iron instead of a driver and it seems to be helping.
