it's somewhat course dependent but on tight, treed courses - lots of those in bc, canada - that i might carry club just for this shot........

what are people's experience using a driver for this shot? is that crazy?

i find the easier this shot is to hit the more the ball rises..... i.e. nice hard contact and keeping the ball low are negatively correlated.

thx in advance
Depends. Ordinarily I'll use one of two clubs: Driver or 4i. For pure distance, driver assuming that the lie is decent and the terrain is clear (no sticks, downed trees, deep rough, etc). With a little practice driver is a very useful weapon. 4i if I want to be more precise with distance and there is room for a little elevation of the shot.

Playing under a tree implies you are typically in the rough or some kind of crap. You would hit driver out that????

It obviously depends on the circumstances, but the courses I play tend to be forested and rough isn't usually lush enough or long enough to be an issue. If the ball is lying decently at all, then sure.

A lot of the guys I play with are quite proficient at hitting driver from all sorts of places, it's a useful skill to have on an overgrown goat ranch.

I am too scared of the driver off the deck after seeing the Sergio slow mo shot of the absurd torque the shaft takes and seems like a way to break a shaft way sooner than you should. Usually use a 3h for low shots, have an sldr and is easy enough to keep low.

If there is one shot that I'm actually good at, it's this shot. I use a 4 iron, I play it off my back foot, and as I'm swinging as hard as I possibly can I lift up on my tip toes and I can hit a low line drive about 160-180 this way. And I follow thru low. Basically throwing the club to the target instead of a normal follow through.

I think golf should be more like wrestling, with each competitor having their own theme music. And before teeing off, there should be a couple of minutes of smack-talking about how they were going to trounce their opposition.

Oh and RKOs out of nowhere.

4i way back in stance and keep hands way forward and follow thru loooooow. Easy to hit it 5 feet above the ground and hook/slice the ever lovin **** out of it if needed.

If it is over 180 yards I will do the same thing with my 3w.

Was the Ksig a replacement for the Prov1? Never was able to try them but I was curious if it spun too much for me like the regular old ProV1's did.

I think the Ksig has more of the character of the "X" pro balls with a higher core compression. I used it side by side with a Tour Preferred X and there was very little difference.

That's good to know, thanks. I see that some of the used golf ball sites are having them in stock now. Might have to get a dozen the next time I reload and try them out.

I don't understand how it went for so little, there must have been some serious problems there that were nit obvious to outsiders. From what I looked up their revenues were over $1 billion last year, so they sold for less than .5x revenue. Adidas originally paid $1.3 billion for them way back in 1997. It's not like they weren't pretty dominant in the market. I don't get it.

the one obvious thing they might have done is split clothing and golf equipment.... so the article mentioning a high revenue number from years ago vs. a very low one right now might be "golf equip." vs. "golf equip plus apparel"... not sure where shoes would go.

i see that your googling suggests the number might just be wrong somehow too.

did the internet slowly kill B&M and full-price golf equipment sales? i notice more and more used equipment on the internet all the time.

i also see some suggestion online of the players championship moving to March - where it was before - and then the big news of the PGA championship moving to May...

i think that would be good as PGA championship now seems like an after-thought major

not sure about used but there is a ton of people selling them on ebay for like $29 a dozen, probably making a killing. Would be tempted to buy them all if they ever show up at my Costco.

Just my opinion, but I'd think that would be dumb. Weather is better in May than March for the Players. Plus I'm never exactly sure how much of a **** the PGA Tour gives about the PGA of America.

The weather in Florida is much better in March. May is usually hot as balls. There is a reason everyone goes back up north after Easter.
