Nice! I'm dying to play that course. I have a friend at Cedar Brae golf course so I'm looking to get out there this year.
A good buddy of mine is a member at Mississauga too, but the guest fees are $250 so we usually play somewhere public when we get together.
Have you played Osprey Valley yet? It's my favourite place in the world and some of the best tracks in Ontario.

Haven't played Osprey but I'd really like to, I think you can get out for like $150?

Played a bunch of good ones last year though thanks tof underpar/golfnow like Angus, Eagles Nest and Abbey (overrated). Still trying to find a way onto Hamilton G&CC, St Georges and the National. Missisauga would be nice too!

Osprey is something like 105+tax walking on a weekend and 80+tax walking twilight; it's worth every penny. If you cart and take range balls however, the price gets steep quick. They also have an all-day rate which is like 140+ tax during the week and 150+tax on weekends. Me and some friends have played as many as 3-4 rounds in one day with the all you can play special. It's typically pretty empty there, so you can just boot around any of the 3 courses in record time. Also, on long weekends they usually have a promotion where the normal rate gets you all-you-can-play.

Since you've never been there, I recommend we make it the spot if we meet up, you'll love the place.

Sounds good, I'll PM you once it's a bit warmer. I'll be all over the play all day deal since I'm usually playing at least 36 when I get out.

Was looking on YouTube for a good bunker video, and found one by this really hot Korean instructor Aimee Cho. She actually knows her stuff and the bunker video was really good. Have watched a few of her other vids on the driver swing, and they were excellent also.

Also did I mention her legs are really, really nice.

Just became a member at the local country club for the first time ever after always belonging to the local muni. Very excited about cutting an hour or more off my rounds and playing on a better maintained track. Handicap should go down by 2 just because the greens roll true.

I've got the flubs on my chips, pitches. Basically those shots between like 30-70 yards. Noticed I am playing ball too far back in my stance but any tips or drills would be great.

not sure about you, but a 30 yard shot and a 70 yard shot are two entirely different things and different clubs for me. all of the 'advice' below is coming from a mid-teens HC so take it with a grain of salt and a shot of whiskey.

i'd use my 58* for a 70-45 yard shot (my full swing 58* is 90 yards or so). i use the 'clock' method of partial backswings on less than full shots (10 o'clock to 7 o'clock) and be sure to accelerate through the swing as if it was a full shot. i think the most common mistake on non-full shots is to take a full backswing and decelerate on the actual swing in a weak attempt to hit it shorter...the exact opposite of what you should do.

as for the 30 yard shot, the club i use depends on if i want to bump and run or hit a more typical pitch. for most shots i'm using my 45* PW instead of my 54* or 58* because i like the heavier head to cut through the rough and i don't have to worry about the bounce on the club. the biggest helping swing thought i've found is to try to take the club straight back with my back elbow tucked and turn my body through the chip and sweep it off the grass, almost like playing a hockey slapshot. this is probably less than ideal but it's helped me to dramatically reduce the number of chunked chips and at least get the ball moving towards the hole.

Oh no I completely understand there are different shots with different clubs. To clarify that's the yardage I've been experiencing the same type of flub miss. It wasn't nearly as bad today when I played but it finally showed its head on hole 12 and my entire round fell apart. 6 over thru 11 to shooting 95 is a true heroic mental breakdown.

My short game especially my touch and feel for those types of shots has always been solid and now it has seemingly fallen off a cliff. I do use various short irons around the greens but it's a bad feeling when I'm starting to fear pulling my 50 54 or 58 out of my bag unless its a near full yardage shot. Like I mentioned I noticed I had been playing my ball way too far back in my stance so maybe now it's comes down to reps and getting over that mental hurdle. The clock thing is a good visual definitely now that I'm reflecting because I do feel at times I'm taking the club too far back and then decel in an attempt to recover on the way down.

Is it also possible I could be standing too close to the ball at approach? Probably not the case but I do get this stuck feeling on my downswing. Maybe that's part of the decel. Any tips on avoiding dipping on your downswing?

try to take the club as straight back as you can (like a hockey shot), keep your right elbow tucked close to your body, and use your core to turn and sweep the ball off the turf....easy game.

it may seem counter-intuitive, but i've found it's easier to adjust the touch on these shots when you use your core instead of using your arms and hands.

It entirely depends on what you mean by "flubs".

I don't know the technical definition, nor have I ever used it to describe a golf shot, but I can't imagine it would be anything but a duff.

And duffing it is synonymous with hitting it fat, not some generic term for a crappy shot as many appear to think.

If you're hitting it fat then I doubt that the ball is too far back. If you're hitting ground first I recommend trying to get your hands more in front of the shaft. (more shaft lean) It will take some loft off the club, but this is a better way to hit shots around the green anyway unless you need to get it up for some reason. Talking about using higher lofted clubs here. And in doing this you will want the ball further back in your stance than usual.

FSGA event at my club Wednesday. 1 low net of two. Only 5 groups in the < 50 net age division. Should be a good warm up to my member-member event starting Friday.

here's a weird question,

say you play somewhere where the wind is strong but intermittent.

if you were in a long drive contest, is it optimal to wait until the wind picks up and then hit? o r is the wind up higher different than ground level? also, are you better to try to time the wind and hit as it's quiet but just starting to pick up? so then the wind will be very strong when the ball's at its apex.

or is it very random? thx advance for any thoughts

i had/have exact same problem. pitching and short iron chunks.

i watched some stan utley videos. pivot forward....... and also, he said his students think they release the club too early. he says they release very late. i think he is completely right and it helped me.......... we fixate on hitting down on wedges but i think that needs to be done in concert with forward pivot, not just slamming club into ground.
