We only won tickets for the Monday practice round day.

We're staying at an awesome airbnb that's only a 5 minute walk from the course, staying Sunday/Monday night, so no real need for a rental car while we're in town (can uber if need be).

So the options are fly into Atlanta or savannah and drive in, or pay extra to fly into Augusta, thoughts? I figure foregoing the rental car cost would balance out the extra flight cost of getting to Augusta. Thoughts if you've done the trip? Flying out of PDX if that changes anything.

For the day of, a lot of people recommend buying a collapsible chair when you get there and just plop it down, but I don't know that there will be enough on course action on Monday to make that worth it or not. What should our game plan be? I'm assuming Monday will be a lot of range/short game work and less course work, but I'm not sure.

Any advice appreciated!
Very nice. I did the Monday practice round in '07 and it was one of my favorite trips, ever. From what I can recall flying into Augusta was cost prohibitive by quite a bit, so we just flew into Atlanta and rented a car (part of that is it's so cheap to get to Atlanta). I preferred that anyway since I just like having a car around, just in case.

The plop-down vs. follow can be a heated debate; for golf tournaments generally I like to split the middle and follow a group or two in the morning and plop down in the afternoon. At Augusta we followed Tiger for a while, then the Spanish contingent (the Mechanic was a blast to watch), then hung out at 16 and 15 for most of the afternoon (16 is fun for the skipping across the pond).

Mileage varies on this one, but I had a blast at Tbonz Steakhouse, which is kind of the 19th hole for non-players associated with the tournament, e.g., caddies, media, celebs. It was packed, even on the Sunday night we went. Great atmosphere. More sperry topsiders in one place than you'll see in your lifetime.

Aside: I'm out at Riverside at the end of this month, so we should tee it up.

I can't blame you, but for what it's worth this was my thought before actually playing Pebble. I didn't pay for it when I played, but after doing so I would 100% pay the $500 again. Probably helps that I had essentially the most perfect weather imaginable the day I played.

Good advice, thanks.

Yea, let's play sometime

As luck would have it I just put in a bid for a freelance writing gig that would net me $4k over the next 3 weeks. If I get the job I will FOR SURE try and play Pebble when I am out there.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Probably a stupid question but here goes

Going on a golfing holiday with some friends in the summer and want to take my own bag and clubs rather than hire out there. Whats the best way to get clubs there without taking major damage or losses?

^ this is my bag, is it possible to buy attachable hoods for these sort of bags? or am i better off buying something like this?

You can probably find a hood for it but I would get a soft side bag as well. I have a hard case for mine but I do run into the 50 lb max for the airlines. Here is what mine looks like:

seems like that travel bag you linked wouldn't be able to fit your tour sized bag?

i know several folks who have used fed ex to ship their clubs back and forth at about the same price as paying for baggage on a flight.

if you think you'll make more trips in the future, i also have a friend that has the sun mountain clubglider journey and loves it.

this is the entry level sun mountain travel bag...you can end up spending more.

a little off topic but thought i'd bring it up since i mentioned sun mountain. i'm a big fan of their stuff, and if you play fairly often in wet conditions their H2NO series of waterproof bags are amazing. https://shop.sunmountain.com/waterproof-series.html i really don't like fumbling around with umbrellas on the course and there's no need to cover this bag with an umbrella because when the rain hood is on you could probably spray it with a fire hose and it would still keep things dry. i use an H2NO bag all winter and switch to a lighter sun mountain stand bag in the summer.

Upper 60's here last weekend and beginning of this week. Was great and really had me thinking GOLF soon. 12" of snow in the last 16 hours and still falling... FML

I saw a meme on FB that hit it pretty perfect...

Mother nature: You can't have all 4 seasons in one week.

Iowa: Hold my beer!

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Snow here too, and not close to thinking about golf ugh. Some spring trip would be a godsend. Maybe Belek, Turkey as it is now very cheap, gotta figure out if itīs not too disturbing for piece of mind.

Buddy used a Sun Mountain waterproof bag (for 4-5 years I think) and said it was elite. He now has a Callaway which he likes too but not quite as much, I have been using Titleist Stadry for 2 years, the one I bought two years ago was not that great in that the legs actually fell off, zippers broke and shoulder straps I did not love. After it broke down I did get compensation so got last years model cheaply, and that has been an improvement on all the points I did not love the first one. Pretty happy with this one. Use it all through the golfing season, maybe could use a still lighter one on sunny summer days, but the waterproof bag is plenty light so donīt often even change (and my lighter bag is not that great). Would hate to golf in wet conditions without a waterproof bag for sure.
