well, if you think it will be then yes it will be.
on the flip side, it's amazing sometimes how good your game can be after a little layoff. i'm guessing that this will apply to you.

Yeah had a day of warmth and light rain yesterday and today is supposed to be +16 (I think that's mid 50s for you Yankee folk) so I'm heading out too. Been nearly a month for me, and I even put the clubs away a few days ago after a decent snowfall that stayed a few days.

39-50. Finished double double triple. Missed an ace by about four inches.

Looking for some feedback on a half-formed golf business idea I've been thinking about...

The idea would be to buy a large number of rounds from a golf course at a wholesale price and then resell them only at pre-designated slow times picked by the golf course.

So let's say I would buy 300 mon-thur twilight rounds that normally cost $40 for $25/each. The golf course would pick say one or two times per day that I could then resell them for 30-35.

I can't seem to get over the idea that it's probably not a good idea for the golf course but that many of them would be happy to get prepaid say $7500 in this example for some "distressed inventory."

My current idea is that the rounds wouldn't expire and that the golf course would be allowed to double-book those times if they wanted since it's inherently during a slow period and it shouldn't really matter.

I've casually mentioned the idea to someone I used to work with in the golf business and got mostly neutral non specific feedback.

Thoughts? The more I think about it, the more I dislike it, but would appreciate some opinions either way.

How different is this from what sites like GolfNow already do?

I think it would be very very difficult to compete with Golf Now in this space, though your deal is probably better for the courses than Golf Now's.

For those that don't know, the way Golf Now works is that it sells X amount of tee times for a course at the rate the course wants to charge, and in exchange they get 1 or 2 tee times a day where they keep the entire rate and can charge whatever they want.

The only thing you really have going for you is that the golf industry more or less hates Golf Now, so if you could offer golf courses a better product they may go for it.

Like NXT said, GolfNow is receiving tee times to sell as trade for a service they provide to the golf course.

Yea my understanding is that the golf industry is really frowning on the idea of trading tee times in general. Some of the statistics I've heard on how much money GolfNow is "taking" from golf courses is staggering considering the actual service they provide.

I guess mine could be "better" in the sense that I take drastically less money from a golf course in an effort to offer discounted tee times. I just can't grasp why golf courses aren't doing this already.

I think there's been some push for dynamic pricing models or variations of that idea, but it doesn't seem to be happening around me at all.

Quick product review:

I bought this Swing Speed Radar thingy and have been able to try it out a few times at the range only, since it's been too cold to play.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/301243778423...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

It's pretty much dead on with what I had numbers wise the last time I was on a trackman a year or so ago.

Highest driver speed was 112 and the lowest was 104. Most were either 109 or 110.

I bought it because I'm working on my swing and want to be able to see how changes are impacting my swing speed.

That said, I'm utterly CONSUMED with hitting 115mph now lol

Your post has interesting timing. I bought one of these a few years ago and never did anything with it, but took it out to the range on Friday. I was getting 108 with the driver but I'm not sure I believe it. I think I would hit the ball farther if my swing speed was really that high. I little over a year ago I did a Trackman session and was averaging 102 which I think makes more sense for me.

Well swing speed doesn't tell the whole story. You may not be hitting the sweet spot, your driver specs might not be optimal (too much spin), etc.

After doing research before buying it, most people reported having speeds within 1-2 mph of trackman.

Here's a fun one. I'm actually surprised this has never happened to me during my hacker career.

I assume penalty would be one stroke and play ball from original spot?

within a club length of the ball, that's 1 shot and replace iirc

Pretty sure it's: Replace ball as close to original position as possible. Not a drop. 1 shot penalty.

your "within a club length of the ball" made it seem like you meant drop within a club length.

although you did say "replace" so i don't really know wtf you meant by "within a club length of the ball"

I'm pretty sure the rule is that if you're standing with a club's length of the ball and do something that directly causes the ball to move, it's a penalty, but it's not a penalty if you're standing more than a club's length away.

where in the world are you guys getting this "one club-length from the ball" stuff? it's a penalty no matter how far away you are
