So after being fitted a month ago, and placing an order for a set of Titleist Ap2's, I'm still staring at my beat up set of Nike pro combos sitting in my bag.

Called GolfTown a few times to find out what was going on, couldn't get an answer... until today. The manager calls Titleist and explains the situation, and tries to track down my irons. Long story short, Titleist ****ed up and I still have to wait another 7-10 days for my irons to get here - but here is where it gets interesting. In an effort to appease my rage, and completely unprompted, Titleist did me a solid. Instead of receiving what I ordered, I'm being sent a set of tour stock Ap2's, some titleist shwag, and a tour vokey to top it off. Score.

Unfortunately this just makes the waiting even worse, considering right about the time all this awesome stuff will be showing up at my door, I'm scheduled for LASIK surgery and have been advised to lay off the golf for at least a week after. Boo.

So I just played a 1 club tournament as the year ending captain's prize at our club. Well, it was actually 1 club and a putter because they didn't want the high handicappers to destroy the greens. And putters were not allowed from off the green.

I am around a 9 handicap, and hit my hybrid around 180 with no wind.

I chose a hybrid, and shot 91, after starting with a 10 on a par 4. It was a 380 yard hole, and I hit a decent drive, leaving a full hybrid to the green. I just pushed it way right (no warm up) and OB. Then hit the next one solid but left of the bunker. Tried running my 5th shot through a bunker. 3 shots in the bunker. 2 putts. 10.

I did make 2 birdies, 1 where I had a 70 yard shot in the green over a bunker, and ran it through the bunker to 15 feet. Another one was on a par 3 where there was a trophy for closest to the pin. It was around 160 yards, and I chipped my hybrid to 5 feet!! Next closest was 16 feet.

I ended up getting handicap runner up, which was cool.

Anyone else play 1 club tournaments? What did you shoot?

I've played 3-club matches, and once a 3 man team, one club each, the rule about order of play was that you had to rotate the player teeing off at the holes and rotate between players during the hole. Quite fun, but definitely favouring the team with 3 players who were capable of hitting a variety of shots with the same club.

never done a 1 club tournament, but in highschool we did a 3 club tournament. I went driver/7iron/putter. I don't remember what I shot, but I remember it being way too normal. I do remember hitting driver on a 175 yard par 3 which was a bit awkward.

I shot my best round in competition this year with only 3 clubs. Handicap is 7 and shot +3. I didn't win either.

Let me know what you guys think.

I bought clevelands Cg7 tours 2 months ago, and they are ok. I hit the ball farther but for some reason its not as crisp as Id like them to feel. Since i get a new set whenever they come out with one for the next 2 years, I am going to get the Victory reds split cavity, the ones right before full blades.

I can get them for $600 cuz I have the hook ups. What do you think? I hit these much better, and when cleveland comes out with a new set, I will ship my CG7's in, get the new ones and sell those.

What's the process of getting one's swing speed measured with the driver?

Can I do this at GolfSmith?
Do I just walk in there and ask?
Or do I need an appointment?
Would it be better to go to a non-chain store?
There's a place called Proline Golf near me. Should they do a better job?
Should either place charge me for doing this?
Should I go to the range beforehand to warm up?

Thanks.

Anybody have tips for hitting chips that are in the rough ~10 feet frim the green. w/ ~10 feet of green to work with? I have a gap wedge w/ a sharp edge to work with and a ptiching wedge.

I'm pretty good at chipping from the fringe, fairway, run off areas etc... And from good lies. But when the ball gets pushed down into some thick rough I have a tough time gauguing the speed. Like if I hit the ball with the correct speed (if it were a good lie) my club gets caught up in the rough and I flub it 5 feet in front of me. If I hit it with enough speed to put solid contact on it, it goes well past the hole.

do I need another club for this, or any tips for using the clubs I have?

I think it'd be a lot easier with a 56-60* wedge. Play it like a bunker shot unless the ball is nestled WAY down. This allows you to take a bigger, more flowing swing and will get the club moving through the grass.

The reason you play it like a bunker shot, i.e. not really hitting the ball is that if you're trying to "hit the ball" sometimes you catch a lot of grass and the ball goes nowhere so next time you swing harder and catch the ball and shoot it across the green. "Blasting" it gives you a somewhat consistent contact to gauge how hard to swing.

ugh planned on playing a round today, went the range to hit a couple buckets before and was striking the ball possible better than i ever have. this was my normal range and each club i hit (9i, 7i, 3h and driver) were all going 10-20 yards further than normal with pretty good accuracy..went to 3 different courses and all of them were full (fwiw it was a beautiful day so i expected them to be busy but none of them would let me jump in as a single) so i said **** it and just went home

Thanks for the tip. I prob had to eventually pick up a SW, so I'll pick up a vokey I guess. Hopefully there's some good deals now that it's near the end of the season.

I think it would prob help if there was somewhere to practice this. I usually hit 300-500 chip shots a day, but there's all either on carpet, or at the driving range w/ perfect short grass. Maybe I'll throw a few balls down around the green at each hole during practice rounds.

We are at about 40 straight days and nights of rain here in Atlanta. Getting stir crazy not being able to play.

Thinking about just sucking it up and hitting some balls in the rain today.

you don't have a 56 degree wedge, yet you are serious enough about golf to hit 300-500 chips a day? wild

I'm having the same problem this year as our rough is grown up so much everywhere. my up and down rate is way down this year. just need to get out there and practice the shot.

It's my first year taking golf seriously, so I've been buying pretty much everything (irons, driver, fairway woods, golf bag, shoes, gap wedge etc...) and havn't gotten around to getting a 56.

But yes I hit about that many chips 5-6 days a week. Go to the driving range 3 times a week and chip for an hour. plus prob hit a few hundred at hom a day.

As I posted earlier, Atlanta has been getting pounded with rain. Some places have had 15+ inches over the past 4 days. Here is the damage at the golf course I normally play, with the main damage being done by the overflowing of the river that runs through it.

6 green, then across at 7, 10, and 11.

10 tee, looking 1 tee and 9 green (white flag right of big tree).

Bridge that crosses 18, looking at 15-18.

Same bridge, this time looking across 14, 1-3, 9-10.

18 green.

Random picture about 1 mile from the course that is about 100 yards from where I lived up until about 6 months ago. The house on the left is built on stilts, lol.
