I'm using a senior flex shaft on a driver, and I am slicing every shot.
I hit my PW (medium firm flex) about 110 fwiw...

standard to be slicing w/ such a whippy shaft? b/c I did a google search and ppl were saying a whippy shaft can cause a draw, fade, hook, (basically any shot). Logic tells me that it should be a slice though, if swing speed is too fast for the shaft.

why i'm using a senior flex: bought for $2 at garage sale, and I never hit a square head driver. so wanted to test it out.

Yeah if you hit a pw 110 a senior is wayyyyy to whippy. If you are hitting a slice, its how your face at impact, and the angle of the club. More then likely you are almost chopping at the ball, and or have an open face.

And if you can get a vid of your swing, it can tell us alot.

What's the difference between these rangefinders that are ~$25, and the ones that are $200-$300?

We have one of those in lost and found, and it doesn't pick up anything.

I've seen a couple of the very cheap "rangefinders" and they have been completely useless.

Anybody ever had the sort of 'range finders' that basically was a pair of binoculars where you would try to align the flag to a scale so that top and bottom would just fit and thereby giving you the range to the flag?

Never thought anybody could be seriously using those.

Ok some1 help here tell me if you ever heard of this.

So my R9 driver, I go to hit and I hear it rattling. It was the heel weight. So Iam like ok, Ill screw it in. It didnt screw in, so I just left it. Now it falls out and I didnt know, i htought it would stay where its just slightly not in. Well I didnt think that it could be the weight itself and not in the head thats stripped till today. So I go to screw another weight in, and yes in goes in.

But weight theres more ( no pun intended ). A piece of metal was jammed in the head where the weights go in on the heel, so when I took the new weight it jammed it through, and now it rattles like crazy in the head.

I bought it off ebay, but bought it from a store with 5k+ items sold, so I figured its legit. But now having 2nd thoughts.

I was reading Golf Digest on the can the other day and one of the "pocket lessons" by Butch Harmon stayed in my head. His lesson was to imagine a tennis ball resting on the inside ankle of the right leg (for a right-handed golfer) and as a first move into the downswing, you were to try and move this tennis ball a couple of inches to the left by rolling the ankle towards the target. I worked on it before the round I played on Sunday and I was really striking the ball well. One of the issues I have had lately is that my "hitting impulse" is back, so I'm really rushing to hit the ball before my back-swing has completed.
This drill seemed to make me a little more patient with my backswing and helped me get into a much better impact position. I hit some of the sweetest iron shots I have ever hit this weekend, especially with my longer irons which I have never been very confident with.
I need to hit a range a few times this week and keep working on that move.

Someone mentioned the pure ball striker/pbs training aid earlier in the thread. Just wanted to say I bought one a couple months ago and it's pretty legit once you get the hang of using it. Definitely worth the $20.

Take it to a retailer and have them send it to taylormade and you should get a new one. Just tell them you bought it there.

Sad news, golf forum: Eman6969 has apparently decided to put golf on hold and is targeting a career in minor league football instead. I'd link the thread in the Sports Events forum, but you should really just go read it.

I usually don't like to get into this, but from his locked thread in sports:

Definitely better than these guys but i only throw da football like 55 yards. And only 6'0 I run a 4.76 too. Going to try and walk on to the arena football league when it makes a comeback or play some cfl. But enough about me.
I think between his speed claim, and his 300y drive claim, he is confused between "yards" and "feet" as distance measurements.

is it a faux pas to not want to tell a group that you're paired up with your score? i usually keep to myself whenever i'm paired with people i don't know... it's not that i am not cordial, but i don't go out of my way to chat people up. anyways the guy who was keeping score for this threesome asked for my score each hole, even though he was aware i was keeping score on my own.

am i being nitty? (i think i know the answer) is there a nice way to tell him to buzz off and to worry about his own score? i just putted like an idiot and was not in a mood to reminisce about the double i just took because i four-putted.

I'm the same way... though usually I can only think of this happening on the next tee when playing with people who are nitty about honor.

Otherwise, I think confusingly saying "7" with no eye contact gets the point across.

If I am playing with a friend we will keep score together. If I am playing with randoms I do my own score everytime. I've never had a random ask me my score though.

i walk on as a single a lot, and often youll have to ride with someone or will be paired with other singles etc, if you dont want them to keep your score just say i got it and never give them a score. if they're big on honors never take yours or get used to giving them your score before every tee shot.

one time i was riding in my own cart and played with a single who was in his own cart, and i saw him keeping his estimate of my score against his. he took a lot of mullgians and improved every single lie and wouldn't you know it, his version of my score came out 1 stroke worse than his at the end of the round.

I almost made the par of the century on the weekend.
Par 4, hit a really good drive and have like 100 yards to a front-pin, my ball's sitting in the rough. I watch two friend dunk it in the water twice each and make a mental mistake of hitting it too hard when it's my turn. The ball flies the green and into some trees behind the hole.
I can't make a swing at the ball because it's sitting up against a tree. The only thing I could do was turn my back to a corner of the green and back-hand chip the ball. I hit it really well and end up an inch off the putting surface about 80 feet away from the cup. I had a double-breaking downhill putt which I hit perfectly. About 80% of the way there I've already raised my putter in the air like I made the ball, but the ball rolls over about 3 or 4 leaves near the cup (I didn't bother clearing them as I didn't think i'd get anywhere near the cup) and stops like 6 inches short.
Would have been the sickest par ever.

My par the other day in my tournament:

I hook my drive left and it takes a terrible bounce and ends up next to a fence. I was not comfortable left handing it and thought I could get my club on the ball right handed. I basically whiffed, but it advanced maybe 5 yards so I had room to swing. I hit a 9 iron through some trees to 10 feet and made the putt. All of the ******ed 3 putts and failures to get up and down and I make par there...typical.

2 "sick" pars that just came to me on the same short tight par 5 which I have never eagled even though I can hit driver 8 iron to the green if I hit it down the middle. I duckhook it left OB, hit my 2nd drive down the middle, knock that on the fringe, roll that putt in for par(would have been eagle) and the other one I knock my drive down the middle, hit 8 iron way right, drop a provisional, hit it at the hole... go find my original ball knock that up by the green and get up and down for par.... my provisional was sitting in the cup. golf is goofy

if i record my swing: should I be hitting the ball?
I don't really wanna take a camera and tripod to my driving range b/c it gets alot of traffic, and I have never seen any1 record their swing.

so i rather just do it in my yard. maybe use a wiffle ball?

I broke 100!!

Damn, I suck.

I've been golfing for about 1.5 years. And, yeah, for the first time, I broke 100.

I played at Primm Valley Desert Course on Friday. It was their first day open after overseeding. This meant that it was cartpath only, all day. And it was 105 degrees. Yikes. Lots of walking.

We tee off at 12:20. And, if it's over 70 degrees, I'm uncomfortable with the heat. So, I'm REALLY uncomfortable.

My last dozen-or-so-rounds, I would have shot in the low-to-mid-90s if it weren't for penalty shots off of the tee. Seriously...far and away the biggest weakness in my game is teeshots (note, this is different than "driver"). If I hit my driver, I put a killer slice on it. If I use my 3w or 5w or 4i, I chunk it, block it, come over the top, slice, etc. If I find the fairway (regardless of club), it goes maybe 120. My golf buddies always ask why I can only hit my 3w off the tee about 150 yards, but hit it 250 yards off the deck. It's cuz I'm a total headcase on the teebox.

So, I took a couple lessons dedicated entirely to driver.

We hit the first tee box, I use a 3w since I was more confident with it, find the middle of the fairway. Then, I put a 6 iron OB. Great. So much for troubles only on the tee box.

I end up making a 1-putt double bogey.

And that quickly became the theme. I putted WAY better than I ever have before. After the round, I calculated my total putts (from memory) as 26 or 27. I had never had fewer than 30 before. I made 6 pars (no birdies), 3 of them involving an up-and-down from a sand trap. I putted in from the fringe twice, once from 50 feet, once from 25 feet. I rolled in half-a-dozen 15-or-so footers. Seriously, I'm not a good putter, but friday was silly. (after watching Tiger on Saturday, one buddy said he (Tiger) almost putted as good as me!).

I still struggled through the round off the tee. I think I hit 4 or 5 tee shots OB (for 8 or 10 penalty shots).

So, we get to 18, and I was at 89 strokes. I needed a 10 or better on this par 5 to break 100.

As I grab my driver (with OB on the right...) I tell my buddy "I should go 5-iron 5-iron here".

I come over the top, OB. Okay, fine. I basically just need to make a triple bogey now, get that shot out of my head.

I go back to the cart, and grab my 5wood. I hit it fairly well, but a tiny bit of a draw (whereas I usually hit a tiny fade), so I end up in a pot-bunker on the left side of the fairway. Great. I don't have a lot of experience with pot bunkers, but this one scared me. It wasn't uberdeep, but it was small. I normally like to hit about an 8i out of fairway bunkers (almost always laying up, to be conservative), I fear not getting the ball out. So I play it safe, and grab my lob wedge. I'm gonna get out of this bunker. I make good contact, and move the ball 70ish yards down the fairway, leaving me about 210, I think (not being able to drive to the ball, it makes the cart's GPS somewhat useless).

I grab my 5w. I'm laying 4 at this point. Just need to get it in the hole in the next 6 shots. There's water on the left, and kinda in front of the green (the green is sorta tucked off to the side of the fairway). The pin is in the back-left.

So, I decide to aim for the right side of the green. If I draw it or come up short, I want to take the water out of play. I fade it a touch (where was that off the tee???), and end up at the end of the fairway, 20 yards from the green, 40 yards from the pin. Laying 5.

The green is very undulating. There is rough between me and the green, so I can't just roll it on. I'm on a hard-pan lie, so I'm scared of skulling the ball if I try a flop shot. I really don't think I have the ability to get it close to the pin. The pin is on a plateau on the back of the green, with a valley in the green in front of the plateau. But I have 5 shots to play with.

So, I chip it waaaay short (not allowing any possibility of going over the green and OB or into the water...even if I skull it). From there, I three putt (first putt broke in the valley, and was left 25 feet away!!! Then, I rolled it to within 6 inches, and tapped in) My only 3-putt of the day.

98.

Phew. Phew. Yay.

I really think that the cartpath only rule (combined with the heat) cost me a couple strokes. I used the wrong club a few times. Once or twice, I had the distance wrong because of no GPS. And, more than once, I made a mis-hit with club X such that I was closer to my ball than the cart. So, I'd walk up to my ball and hit it again with X instead of changing clubs. The heat made me very lazy. And that, coupled with my inexperience and inabilities, cost me a tiny bit.

But...I broke 100. Even while trying to choke on #18!
