Nope. Assuming you're a true 26 of course.

pretty sure if I'm playing a 26 that shoots a 39 on the front and then starts dropping multiple 8's on the back, I'm gonna start giving him every putt inside 15 feet and work the word 'sand' into every conversation.

I'm a 26 and in 50+ rounds I've played since I started in 2011, my low 9 is a 41. 5 bogeys, 4 pars. Being a 26 and regularly breaking 40 on 9 is definitely strange. Fix those blow-up holes, dawg. Or become a pro match-play golfer and hustle people out of maniez.

or stop sandbagging, either/or.

the giveaway is that the low score is the front. lol

This isn't completely accurate because it's just a 9 hole score he shot, but even on a super easy course, 39 is something like 8 shots below the expected score of a 26 handicap. Something the chart (18 hole score chart, so really would need -16 to start to calculate) doesn't even list, but we can determine it's very very unlikely to happen.

What does that mean? Most likely that the 39 wasn't actually 39, or that the 26 handicap is incorrect.

Bottom line is that it is difficult, if not, impossible to equalize differing players via handicaps. Some formats will favor lower handicaps and some formats will favor higher handicaps.

Obviously higher handicaps will have a higher score dispersion (in raw score not necessarily std dev) per hole and per round. Any match-play handicapped format that provides a large difference in shots given will marginally tend to benefit the higher handicap more than the low handicap. At least that is my understanding.

I would agree with this. never met a TRUE 26 that could shoot 39 for 9 on a standard par 35/36 9 hole course. Doesn't pass the smell test at all.

Lol I'm a 11 right now (although I'm not playing like one currently) and don't break 40 on 9 that often

Anyone have any clue about launch monitor set ups? I have a large unfiinished basement (new house) with prob 2500 sq feet. that I will be allocating some of that space to for hitting net with good technology.

Don't really need a sim given that a top notch one is going to be upwards of 50k. Just want a spot where I can hit (and putt with smallish green) in the winter and get some technological feedback.

Ok, I'm the first to admit I am a complete head case. If I have a bad tee shot, followed up with a skulled shot over the green into a bunker, then another awful bunker shot and a 3 putt cause I'm so pissed that could ruin 3 holes for me.

As someone who's floated around 25-26 or so for way too long, I know I've never broken 40 for 9 holes (except on a par-32 nine). As far as I can remember, the best score I ever had on anything par-35 or more was a 42. But it doesn't seem completely unreasonable for an erratic 26-handicap bomber with a lot of blow up holes to string things together, make a few putts, and luckbox breaking 40 on an easy or short course.

Once I learned what ESC was, I think it really free'd me up and kept me from getting too angry out there. I do have a bad temper but something about knowing that an 8 (or 9 on a tougher course) is the worst score I can log for HC purposes keeps me more calm and just focused on the next shot.

FWIW, I don't think some of these theoretical players exist.. The good player with the blow up hole.. But it doesn't happen to others..

How much are you willing to spend. Flightscope or GC2 is like 7k, Achiever is like 2k if they still make it. I've heard bad things about the achiever, but they used that at my old indoor range, and the numbers didn't seem any different than the Ping fitter at Roger Dunn which I assume is FScope or TMan.

Spin rates afaik are only good on Trackman. My guess is the cost of these things will start to go way down as the years progress, so imo it's not worth it to get one now.

Just looked up what ESC was. A different system than we use in the UK, but probably works out pretty much the same.

Over here in England we adjust all scores to Stableford for handicap purposes. This means that for each hole, the maximum score is the minimum score you would get for 0 points stableford, or in other words, a nett double bogey for that hole - so 3 over par if you have a shot on that hole, or 2 over if you don't.

A few weeks ago I had a 13 on a par 4 with a shot and an 8 on another par 4 with a shot. Shot 79 and made the buffer zone (became 2 7's), so no handicap increase!

Noob question?

Are tour players allowed to use adjustable drivers?

Can amateurs adjust their drivers mid round or do you need to leave it be? And tour players if the first answer is yes?

So I went as a single today ($2 round. $12 hot deal+ $10 promo for using GolfNow 15 times. BEAT THAT!) and ended up pairing with a middle aged man on the first tee. He was good company hitting along with and everything was going smooth... Until the 18th tee.

We pull up in our carts and I get out and grab my driver. He was telling me about how his daughter is moving to Wisconsin etc etc. Mid conversation he walks up to a nearby tree just off the teebox, whips his dick out, starts pissing. Never broke stride and didnt miss a beat in the convo. I cant say I havent taken a piss in a nearby field while on the course, but never with a random. Especially without warning.

I wasnt upset... Was just incredibly awkward. Ive also never played with someone who shouted profanities at their ball/equipment so frequenly. He was a trip.

Pissing on the 18th tee box seems weird. I guess old ****ers really can't hold it 10 more minutes.

You're the weird one for thinking that taking a piss on the golf course is weird.

Not sure who you are talking to but neither of us thinks it's weird to piss on a golf course. rmt said the guy whipped it out mid-convo about his daughter, and I just think it's funny that he'd piss on 18 instead of waiting 10 minutes to piss in the clubhouse. I rarely have to piss on the course though (sweat an ungodly amount down here) and if I do it's probably going to be mid-round, not teeing off on 18.

EDIT: 4 times a round!? Jesus I wish I played somewhere with highs of 70 and no humidity. Maybe I'm totally wrong here and it's standard to piss more than once a round. Houston is 95 with like 70% humidity. Bladder issues never arise. You have to drink 48 oz. of water per 18 just to keep from passing out.

I guess it wasn't a super classy thing for him to do, but it wouldn't have fazed me at all.

Arod, you don't drink alcohol on the course? Drinking is the fastest way to lower your handicap.

I guess I should mention that he downed probably a 6 pack or so on the course. He also pissed in the clubhouse on the turn for whatever thats worth.
