Would be very nice, but the way his career is going, it's highly unlikely.

Weir and Duval 1/2 at the 2011 PGA, book it.

No it's not. He needs to just drive the ball straight and he will be a perennial top 20 player again. His irons/short game have continued to be top notch.

Driver yips are as much of a threat to a career as with the putter and as uncertainly resolved, I suspect.

Hey if Stricker can make it back anyone can.

Does Weir still have full status?

agreed. I don't know if it's yips or not.

I'm not sure if it's true or not, but Weir is a very analytical player and it seems to me like those guys are more prone to hit WTF shots if things go wrong and it not be "yips." But who knows.

He's a *decent* driver away from a top 20 player in the world. short game = too good.

Re: Mike Weir's interview to Canadian Press

I think Mike Weir might be guilty of what a lot of shorter hitters are and that is trying to get too much out of their drivers. Mike is not only short but he is very slight, yet has competed near the highest levels for a long time. It's his only real weakness and he may have picked at it one too many times. He has won on longer tracks in his career but I think if you look back at those tourney's conditions would have favored him. Going forward he may resign himself to being able to win on less weeks than in the past. I think of Scott Verplank as a slightly lesser version of Mike. Verplank has been on the low of PGA distance his whole career yet even though he's older now he has averaged 80%+ cuts made on tour over the last 5 years. (dipped a bit this year) Quite impressive for an old short hitting guy with diabetes who must have it blasted by him by nearly everyone every day.

As a left handed Canadian I'll always be a fan.

Not at the moment - he's 147th on the money list. He's got a minor medical for next year, so he'll have 5 starts to earn about $175-200K. If not, then if he holds on to a spot in the top 150, he'll have conditional status for next year, plus he's 12th on the career money list and so has two more exemptions he can use if he wants.

Re: Mike Weir's interview to Canadian Press

I was there the day his career as a star effectively ended.

2004 Canadian Open at the Abbey. Misses a 5 (or 6?) footer on the 2nd playoff hole vs. Vijay for the win.

I'm adament he's never been the same since that miss.

Re: Mike Weir's interview to Canadian Press

I think the biggest factor for improvement is driver accuracy. The past year the majority of courses have really made the rough well rough. Mike just doesnt generate powerful swing like some of the bigger guys to hack it out of the thicker rough. some players miss farway and can muscle it on the green yet with Mikes shorter distance to start off the tee missing the fairway causes him to miss way to many GIR which doesnt help shooting low.
I really am rooting for him since he's from my home town and with the injury behind him and fully rehabed i really hope and believe he will make it back into the winner circle in 2011!
