The players should be notified in a way in which neither gains and advantage with the information.

**** the USGA - if they're going to enforce a penalty that was otherwise not apparent to the human eye, they have to at least act in a way that doesn't give a clear advantage to one of the competitors.

lol USGA as usual.

That being said how does Nordquist not know she left a trail behind her ball in the bunker. It's pretty obvious when it happens to you (I have done it messing around).

I thought the same thing for a second but I think that was the trail of the ball rolling into the trap, not the trail of her club going back.

That was in fact the track left behind the ball as it rolled to its final resting place.

The rules violation was the couple of grains of sand that fell because she brushed them with the club right as she was starting her swing.

Meh not really, the USGA ****s up their events in multiple ways every year. Anna definitely made contact with the sand and that's a two shot penalty. In today's age with HD TV it's not going to go unnoticed.

Also no one wants to seem to place much blame on Anna for a massive error. Why even come close? I cannot imagine doing so on a fairway bunker shot.

Congrats also to Gerina, who will be ranked 15th this week, just making the cutoff for the Olympics by less than a tenth of a point. She's the only American other than Lexi to show any consistency this year.

SH Park is 16th, so she might not have qualified unless she won, but her bogey on the last cost her some points and probably clinched it for Piller.

Yeah I never even thought of that. Then def lol at USGA. If you need high def slow mo cameras then I guess 99% of the field would not be penalized.

For sure it's a penalty, just sucks to lose like that.

didn't see the incident so no comment on it directly.

what do people think of the fact that they aggressively enforce the rules late in the tourney but have no way to do it earlier in the tourney?

alternatively, i would think that one of the greatest things about golf is it is largely self-enforced rules

one thing that ties into what i've always wondered about: are players doing this type of stuff constantly but only getting busted when on TV? or was it so minor she would have no idea?

one that i wonder about is the ball staying still when they set up in the rough?

NO way she could notice that or her caddy or playing partner. I know the odd time I think did I touch the sand and I look for a obvious mark. I dont even know if 10 years ago television technology could have caught this.

This week the LPGA moves to the state of Ohio for the playing of the Marathon Classic presented by Owens Corning and O-l.

Many may remember last year's exciting conclusion when Chella Choi fired a final round 66, to force a playoff with Ha Na Jang. Choi would go on to win the playoff. Lydia Ko and Shanshan Feng finished just 1 shot back.
