Re: ITT I troll the golfers!

I don't 'hate' golf, I really dislike ppl going on and on about it when I'm trapped. OK, I loathe golf on TV, damn that's boring. A few minutes, fine. I will admit that I don't see much in the game but have to admit that there must be something to it bec so many ppl love it. I once had a guy who did plumbing work for me in The Bronx. A small Puerto Rican fellow who was always covered in grease, wore ripped up clothing, etc. So one day I told him to do a plumbing job and he said he couldn't because he was going to play golf! In The Bronx in FEBRUARY! And it had just snowed a bit! That's when I first heard about playing w/ a red ball.

I'll tell you what it is though: I can no longer hate the golfers. It's true, here I am trying to troll you all, you are all poker players who are not shy about telling ppl off, and you've been really pleasant for the most part. Disgusting, I feel so unsatisfied even though a couple of you gave me what I deserved.

You ppl are nice.

So, how much would I have to pay for golf lessons? I live on the SunRidgeCanyon golf course.

IDK if golf/poker is a good comparison tbh unless you play for money. Also, since I play limit, the game is quick w/ many decisions points that have to be made quickly. Golf seems slow. Anyway, here's some chip porn from today's game:

---------------------

And if I take up golf how do I get into a group to play around? And how much do clubs cost? Damn, if I start up w/ golf and I like it then I have to come back here and eat my words.

Re: ITT I troll the golfers!

Howard, you know I'm a fan of yours.

With that said:

-Talking golf is about as interesting as talking poker. Poker players hate golf talk. Golfers hate poker talk. Everybody else hates golf and poker talk.

-I'm a limit player and a golfer. The two can cohabitate.

-I would rather watch golf on TV than poker on TV. This is probably personal preference, but I doubt it.

-I wouldn't knock poker til I tried it (which I did). You shouldn't knock golf til you try it. But I'm all about getting **** off my chest, which is what this thread is obviously all about.

If you come to the southeast, PM me and we'll play golf. If I come out west, I expect the same treatment. No complaining either way.

ANOTHER nice guy!

Now that you point it out I'd rather watch TV golf than TV poker also. That's how bad TV poker is.

Heh, you want to play a round of golf w/ me? OK, if it can ever be arranged. But you will have to let me use your clubs and you will also have to be prepared for the longest round of your life and a lot of play-thrus on my way to hitting ~ a 180.

The generalization is accurate esp at the lower limits that I've been playing lately (8-16 mostly and some 20-40) but there are, of course, exceptions. I think it's because they don't make the effort to stay 'fresh' or 'current', if those terms convey what I'm trying to get across and most of them certainly don't try to improve. I'm 61. I've read many poker books, similar books, in the hope of finding ONE new concept. I read/post here, I watch the players that I think are good, I always review my sessions in my head. I'm going to brag: It's often enough that some of the better younger players, I'm talking the 20 somethings, ask me why I'm not playing much higher. The answer is is that I don't have to and I practice BR management. I play w/i my dedicated poker BR and when it's right I'll move up. OTOH, I'm talking from the LHE experience and if you see what many of the older crowd show up w/ in a limit hand for multiple bets I don't think it could be called nitty. Still, I know what you mean.

Ehhhhhhh..........look at all of that rambly stuff, .

I hit reply anyway.

I find golf and poker to be very similar - they both have a lot of variance and "randomness" and both need a firm grip on the mental game if you want to succeed long term. Learning to accept whatever happens and being able to continue playing without letting it affect you is huge for both.

Golf is sometimes fast and sometimes slow - it depends on a few factors, mainly yourself. Slow isn't necessarily bad though.

And clubs are cheap (or at least they can be) - get a beginners half set to begin with, it has everything you need until you figure out if golf is for you and something you want to continue with. Golf buddies aren't usually hard to find, but I'd ask around among my friends and see if some of them also want to try out golf.
