I'm going to be in Scottsdale for a couple days next week and will probably try to get in one round of golf. Any recomendations on where I should play?

I'm currently leaning towards Troon North, since I've heard that it's good, and it's also close to where I'll be staying. Any insight on this course would be appreciated.

FWIW, I'm prob about a 16 hdcp right now.

Thanks!

Troon was sweet I thought. TPC stadium was kinda overpriced.

Some good stuff here, but a lot of it is probably not in the radius that you are apparently looking for. Here are the Cliff's Notes of courses up there:

TPC: overrated/overpriced...unless you absolutely have to "play where the pros play", avoid
Grayhawk: good service but overrated/overpriced
Troon North: pricey but very good
Boulders: expensive but absolutely stellar
We-Ko-Pa: this is the one you should play, no houses, incredible unobstructed views, very good value although it is a longer drive than these others

Regardless of what you choose, make sure they haven't aerated greens recently. Mid-late May is a common time for them to punch the greens. If you are staying far enough north (Dynamite Blvd., where Troon North is) you can get to We-Ko-Pa quickly by going through Rio Verde.

Seconded on the WeKoPa recommendation. Its my favorite course(s) in the valley, followed by the Boulders. Troon is v nice, but I didn't care for Grayhawk. I found it a little boring and the service/conditions were not as great as other high end courses.

I played WeKoPa (Saguaro) last weekend. The conditions were perfect and the rate just dropped to $65 for AZ residents.

Third for We-Ko-Pa. Played Cholla in Dec '06 and loved it. If you're mixing golf and poker, (small sample size and IMO LDO) CA >>>> Fort McDowell but We-Ko-Pa >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Talking Stick

***We-Ko-Pa is really good
***Dove Valley ranch is good value
***Rancho Manana is the most beautiful course i have ever played also my best round 67! its fairly short but a thinking course
***TPC desert or championship course (not the high priced FBR open course) is nice also
Ill post back when i think of more theres a few that im missing....
