So my good friend is getting married on Saturday. I've known him and his fiancee for about 4 years. I'm not in the wedding party or anything, but I definitely feel like I should be there.
Here's the problem...I just got a phone call from a friend who is going to the masters on Saturday and has an extra ticket.
I've never been. And who knows when another opportunity will come up? So....
What's the play??

Masters ldo. There's a 50% chance they'll get divorced anyway, but there's almost a 100% chance the Masters will be awesome and something you'll remember forever.

I can just say my grandmother died. She did...in 1993. But he doesn't have to know that part

If by 'my good friend' you mean your best friend then you gotta go to the wedding. If you mean one of many good friends then tough luck friend it's Masters time baby.

Does he know enough about sports to know what the Masters is? If so, I think he'd get it. Just make sure you send a nicer gift than you otherwise would to make up for your very late cancellation.

He said he wasn't in the wedding party, so he obviously isn't best friends with the guy.

He knows what the masters is and what it means. And no...we're not "best friends"...we just hang out a lot. I'm sure many of my other friends will understand as well. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't a total d-bag move to back out at the last minute. I actually posed the "hypothetical" situation to the best-man, and he agreed...looks like I'm headed to Augusta!

This is so easy it is ridiculous. Go to the Masters and mail the happy couple a gift. Everyone will be satisfied. The bride and groom are lucky if they spend more than 5 minutes with any of the guests. For the couple, the entire day goes by in a blur and they will not even likely remember that you were not in attendance.

Yea, you nailed it here...The Masters will be something you will remember for the rest of your life. Their wedding?...not so much.

Send a gift and dont even feel guilty about it...enjoy it man.

If you're the high integrity, "my word is my bond" type you would honor your commitment. If you're comfortable being a little flaky then it's off to the tournament. My opinion? It's low class to bail on their wedding, and downright scummy if you lie about it.

GO. TO. THE. MASTERS.

I went for the first time in 2005 and it was better than words can describe. I took my dad for his 60th birthday in 2007 and it was better than I remembered. Then I took my wife last year and she, who doesn't play golf, couldn't stop talking about how great it was.

If you are positive you will go sometime soon, next 5 years, consider the wedding. Otherwise go.

Go to the Masters. Yell out "filthy man whore" when Woods hits his first tee shot. Get kicked out in time to go to the wedding.

Unless you're the bride, father of the bride, groom or best man this isn't even close.

On a related note I would love to see Tiger heckled unmercifully from fans who know that this will be their only Masters that they will ever attend. This isn't out of malice for Tiger but just for the entertainment value alone.

I love the tournament itself but am torn between amusement and disgust at how the Augusta National Golf Club presents itself. Their pompous self regard is insufferable. Billy Payne's references to Mr. Woods during his sanctimonious "State Of The Master's Speech" were cringeworthy.

It was a beautiful wedding and many tears were shed. OP was extremely happy for the bride and groom, they are such a cute couple. The floral arrangement was amazing.
