Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

once i ducked out of the way, i could feel the air from the ball against my head. my bro was hitting a 5i or something, and the trajectory was abnormally low, so i wasn't expecting it. He thaught the ball hit me.

another time i had to do like a full body dive type of deal b/c my friend hit a wedge or 9i, and that ball was coming down steep right at me.

only time i came close to hitting something/someone was when i blasted a PW about 20yards farther than i normally do (idk how it happened) and the ball went over the fence and bounced on a the street missing a car by a few feet.

not bad considering i have played prolly about 20 rounds lifetime.

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

I almost killed an old couple with a golf cart once.

The parking brake wasn't working on the cart we had, and as I left it to make an approach shot from the left rough on a par 4, the cart starts rolling down a grade directly towards the next tee, a par 3 going the opposite direction. There is an older couple (70's?) on the tee, and the cart is rolling RIGHT AT THEM at a pretty good clip. I yell and take off on a dead sprint to try to catch it - at the very last second I get a hand on the corner bar of the cart and try to drag it from the side to at least slow it down, when the cart NAILS the ball-washer on the tee box, knocking it out of the ground, right in front of where they were standing. The cart came to a stop with everyone uninjured. Even with me yelling, they never saw/heard it coming. Thank God for that ball-washer.

The couple was surprisingly congenial about it once I had a second to explain - I think they were impressed I tried so hard to stop it, lol. My buddies heard the noise from the fairway and ran over, and their reaction can best be described as, "WTF just happened?"

this is the 3rd hole on the course 2 blocks from my house. I have hit it onto the expressway like 10 times and have narrowly avoided cars on basically all of them. I feel like my luck will run out soon, but at the same time, my slice is getting better!

There's a similar situation on one of my local courses - luckily there isn't a ton of traffic on the road or I would never be able to tee off on this hole.

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

I have two full out spider webbed windshields, several other moving cars (no real damage to them), but no people.

I've been hit a few times, but the only one that was bad was when I was doing something I shouldn't have been doing. The range at the golf course that I lived on growing up was just across the fairway of the hole I was on. The range was surrounded by a line of small bushy cedar-like hedge things that had gown out a bit so you couldn't see through them. I'd walk along the edge later in the evening about 80 or 90 yards from the tee area and pick up a few balls, take them back to my back yard and hit them back into the center of the range. I justified doing it by telling myself that I was doing them a favor!

Anyway, I was out one night picking up a handful of balls and I heard the dreaded shank CLANK!!! I immediately knew I was in danger and I heard the fffffffffffffffffffffFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!! of the approaching ball. That sucker hit me right in the part of your quad that people nail when they give you a dead leg. Just above the knee and slightly to the side where the quad muscle starts. It took me down. I heard this thick SLAP and then my leg had gone out from under me. I laid there for a second amazed at how much it actually hurt. I hobbled off home and put ice on it. I could almost tell you the brand of ball it was, it left such a true dimple pattern on my leg.

My dad got hit in the side of the head/jaw when I was at a junior golf tournament once. He was following me around for a practice round. I was watching as it happened. There was no yelling "FORE" or even a warning of any sort. I just heard my dad let out this abrupt "UUUHHHHGGGFFFFFF" and the ball fell to the ground. My dad just leaned forward with his hands on his knees looking like he was trying to catch his breath. He said he lost vision for a few seconds and his jaw clicked for about a month. I still can't believe he had no "actual damage" from the incident. The guys behind us didn't even realize what happened until I laid into them telling them that they "just drove their ****ing golf ball into my dad's face."

My grandfather who is a 119 handicap almost hit me in the face. I was probably 20 yards away directly to the right. As he hits it all I see is a blur. It reminds me of my baseball days as a pitcher as well as staring straight at the sun during an eclpise. The blur is circular, but looks to be the size of about a basketball. I duck quickly and non nonchalantly act like it was no big deal.

I hit a ~5 year old one time with a semi shank. It was the freaking city tournament (which means mixed in with the good people are some absolutely terrible people...i wasn't one but the shot was...). I think the ball just grazed him because while he was crying a lot, there was no blood. The dad started screaming at me and i am like wtf, this is a golf course, SORRY. I wasn't trying to kill a 5 year old kid. I tried to apologize but really just got the hell out of there before the father killed me.

my favorite:

I am playing in my "state" tournament with the biggest douchebag in the world. I seriously can't believe this kid. Collar popped, bitching, whining, complaining, attempting to cheat, throwing clubs, throwing balls (when he threw his brand new prov1s off the green and walked off after a HORRIBLE PAR OMG, i picked them up and stuck them in my bag. Free golf balls ftw.

Anyway, we get to hole 17 and am playing terribly, ready to get this crap over with. I am standing behind and to the right of the douchebag when he hits his drive. I think he mi**** it a little bit and it faded into the first cut. He is so angry at this absolutely unfathomable shot that he decides throwing his club aimlessly is a great idea. I see the club helicoptering right at my face and the head of the club passes maybe a foot in front of my face. The grip end hits me in the cheek and falls to the ground. It didn't really hurt, felt more like an inadvertent elbow in a pickup basketball game, but it sure scared the hell out of me. I have the "punch you in the face" reflex as I take one step towards him in ass kicking agression and then I somehow manage to hold back and instead I just rant a little bit about what a freaking bitch this kid is. He apologized maybe 100 times within 20 seconds, probably realizing that I would've kicked the living sh*t out of him during almost any other time except for that.

Anyway, his second shot lands on the green rolls into the fringe, rolls down a hill, onto the cartpath, down a hill while still on the cartpath, and into a lake. He ended up making an 8 on that hole. Then on 18 he hits a drive that is maybe a 5 yard slice. The ball hits a cartpath and ends up maybe 1 foot out of bounds. He tries to claim it is in bounds. I sent him back to the tee in totally angry uncharacteristic fashion (I am very non confrontational usually). He proceeds to 4 putt and make another 8. I believe this left him with a round of 80. Probably the greatest bit of karma I have ever see.
That kids father was the idiot for bringing a five year old to the golf course in the first place. Children that age simply don't have the attention span to deal with 4 or 5 hours on a golf course. Additionally, and more importantly most kids that age wouldn't understand what fore means.

When I was marshall I gave a ride to guy who had shot himself right in the face after attempting a hero shot beetween pine trees. The dude was bleeding from his mother****ing forehead and his playing partners were laughing hysterically when I arrived lol. Later that nite the guy and his buddies were drinking/singing at the bar, such a heartwarming story

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

Playing with my big bro a million years ago.He had this habit of hitting and just walking off before i hit, well this time I hit a low block cut into the back of his head from 30 meters or so.He dropped like a sniper had hit him and I go rushing up .He is lying on the ground on his back making these choking noises like he has swallowed his tounge. So im only 12 years old or so and im ****ting myself thinking i've killed him.I reach into his mouth to unblock his airway and the bastard bites my fingers real hard. Then he jumps to his feet and goes off down the fairway laugthing his head off.Guess I was a powder puff back then.

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

I got two...

I once had a ball bounce onto the floor of a cart I was standing next to and careen into my head. I do NOT recommend this.

Story two is a bit more involved and doesn't actually involve someone getting hit with a ball but with a club.

Two women are at a driving range. One is trying to teach the other how to swing. As she is coaching her student she decides to get a better look at the angle of her downswing and....BAAAM!! She leans DIRECTLY INTO THE PATH of the club and takes it right in the face. I am 100% sure her nose was broken and probably her cheek bones as well. The blood was plentiful and based on the screams this also is NOT recommended. She left in an ambulance LDO and as messed up as she was I think she was lucky to be alive.

i got hit in Vegas at Angel Park on the fly in the arm from about 200 yards away from some idiot on a different who didn't bother yelling fore. it left dimple marks and a huge bruise. it hurt like ****.

I think I played Angel park. Is that the course with 390 yards holes that, when you hit a 230 yard drive, you only have a 80 yard shot left to the green? In this is the course, but I could be wrong.

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

Still have a scar (I guess permanent) above my lip when I was hit with a golf ball at Bandon Dunes a year ago. Everyday I get to look in the mirror and see it.

At least it was on the last day of the trip. Didn't finish round and was in hospital.

Being hit in the head by a golf ball.

What are the chances in getting hit in the head by a golf ball.............
5 years ago I was playing with my husband, we had only been playing for about 2 years, and only ever played maybe 10 times a year. I was hit in the head by a pro who was teeing off on the next fairway, I was knocked to the ground taken to the Dr who confirmed concussion, for the next two years I was unable to touch the top of my head, but so many people (once they stopped laughing) said how lucky I was, I had no idea people had died from this.... well yesterday my husband called me from the golf course to tell me..... Wait for it........... Yes he had been hit in the head (he has only played a handful of games over the past 5 years) I could not believe it... he said it also knocked him to the ground (he is 6 foot and 110 kg) had a huge gash on the side of his head, blood everywhere........ I was so worried I told him to go to the Dr but being a typical male he didn’t, today he has a very sore head but seems ok and thanks god it didn’t do anymore damage. So I guess we both need crash helmets and a ticket in the lottery........ Anyone else know of a husband and wife with the same story or are we one in a hundred million?????????
