Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

3rd or 4th time out for a round on the course and I was on the last hole. There were some old people ahead me on the green just finishing up and I went to take my shot. It was still a good distance away and since I could rarely hit the ball, and could almost NEVER get any distance I thought they were in no danger. Wouldn't you know it, I hit it solidly for the first time, it flew right of the green, hit the cart path right infront of the old man and bounced into his nuts. He barely flinched.

I forgot to yell 'Fore!'

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

How hard is it to yell fore? I mean, if you lose sight of your ball at any time, yell fore. If you are hitting into a group but don't think you can reach, then yell fore if you really connect on a shot. I think its so common to mis-hit the ball then look to see if anyone is in the direction. Skip the last part and yell fore because there is no time! I yell fore a lot, but I only scream it when I am certain someone is in the path. Public service announcement over...

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

Ironic. I was going to ask about this today.

Got hit playing Pacific Dunes this week. Rocked in the face from a playing partner who was in a bunker 30 yards below the green. I saw him take 4 swings and his caddy said punch out to the side. He tried to punch out (I thought he did) and then he went and tried to hit. Bladed the ball hard and hit me in the gums.

Blood everywhere. I was in shock.

Marshall took me to the hospital and I now have stiches for a week on my lip and face. Hope there will be no scar.

Could have been worse -- lost teeth or even an eye.

First time I have been hit in 20+ years of playing golf.

Scary stuff. I am still in shock and I keep replaying the moment over and over.

Yow. Hope you heal well.

I'm a high-handicapper and it drives me crazy when my playing partners go stand on the green while I'm still off far enough to require a pitch. I do hit one thin and off-line from time to time. Knowing they are up there makes it difficult for me to take the aggressive swing I need to.

BTW, don't mean to fault golfnutt. Clearly, it appeared your partner was nearly done and you were safe.

Nearly done doesn't equal done as I found out...along with part of my face

I don't even think that people should stand a foot in front of people. You just never know.

Face is still sore. Stiches will be out next week and then I need to put sunscreen on for 6-8 months to avoid more scarring.

I still think about the shot every few minutes. Mixture of how unlucky I was vs. how lucky I am that it was not worse.

Also happy it was on the last day of vacation vs. the first.

The injury sounds scary and very annoying. Sorry bud.

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

Was playing with a buddy, I was on right side of fairway maybe 5 yards in front of him, but he was all the way on the other side, about 40-50 yards over. Hits a shank, I see it coming but freeze. Last second I duck back onto other side of cart as the ball bounces off the roof of the cart.

Another time, on the right side of the fairway and it borders another hole. I hear "fore" right as a ball lands about 2 feet from the cart.

Last week, I'm on side of green getting ready to walk up and putt my beauty on a par-3, buddy is chipping from short... somehow loses his ball in the air, doesn't give me any kind of heads up, ball whistles by my face lands next to me. Close call.

Same round, same hole, we're hitting up the drink cart after finishing the hole, clearly visible to the tee, just off the green, barely walked back to the cart to put clubs up, haven't even engaged the drink cart yet.... bam! Blast on the roof of the drink cart! She was pissed, we were pissed, expletives were hurled at the *******s behind us.. she drove over and gave them what-for, they stayed a comfortable distance behind us after that, even though they were playing faster. We could have let them through, and would have in aanother hole or two, but after that.. screw 'em.

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

My brother used to take my driver out of my bag when we where younger as I always hit in to the groups ahead (hidden brag). Now that I am a father and mature it only happens once in a while (another brag). But I was paid back when someone yelled 444444444!! and I looked down and a ball bounced perfectly and squared me in the forehead and I looked like Apu for 1 week and a massive headache!

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

The cart-threesome behind my walking foursome was apparently in a big hurry yesterday. We didn't get hit but came damn close to being hit. On a short par 4, the group behind us hit into us off the tee, and again as we were clearing the green - we were literally about 5 yards off the green when the ball came in.

We let them play through on the next hole, a par 3, and then when we confronted them about hitting into us twice, they said we should've played faster.

I almost had a triple homicide on my hands.

Unhappy I got plonked in the forehead...

while riding my bike near a golf course there was blood everywhere I remained conscious throughout the incident and was scared ****less of dying right there from bleeding to death but thankfully the guy that hit the golf ball to my rescue and called 911 and took me via ambulance to get 8 stitches and I was sent home on new years eve night what a great way to spend new years eve
oh well least I survived but now I'm self-conscious about going outside of my house because I have to wear turban-like ace bandage to hold the gauze over my forehead. well I guess it could of been a lot worse I could of got tagged right in the eye and I would of gone blind possibly now that would of been real ****ty

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

When I was 8 years old I was playing with my Dad and brother. On the 8th hole par 4, I tee it up and swing away. The group in front of us is near the green around their carts are on the right hand side around a bunch of trees. This hole is nearly straight uphill. Well my ball hits the cart path and bounces up toward them. My Dad yells "fore" and figured we were ok. So my Dad goes up to apologize to them and what not. On the next hole he tells me that the group in front of us was the Governor of Idaho and I hit the head of the State Lottery Commission in the face and broke his glasses. He was ok no cuts or anything. I nearly crap myself, the funny part is he actually sent my Dad a $200 bill in the mail to pay for his glasses. I think he had a little higher paying job than my Dad, lol, what a cheap arse

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

Been hit too many times over the years but luckily never sustained any real injuries.

One time I pushed a tee shot into the adjoining fairway, when i got up too it the group on that hole was just passing by so i figured i had time to quickly hit before the next group teed off. I hit, then grabbed my bag and before i could move i heard "FORE". I couldnt see it so I turned my back to them to avoid getting it in the face/testicles and it came down right on the back of my neck so solid that it just hit and rolled down my back. The guy got me from 280 out downwind from an elevated tee on the fly but it actually didnt hurt that bad for some reason, just lucky i guess. I was however so tilted and enraged that i played two more holes and walked in.

My dad was a club pro for 45 years and when i was a kid he used to do group lessons at a lot of small town courses that didnt have driving ranges so he would bring his own balls and hire my friend and I too shag them. There would be 15-20 people lined up hitting and we would be out there with ball gloves collecting all the balls. One time my friend was getting set to grab a grounder and it popped up and caught him in the eye, worst black eye id ever seen. Next week we were out there again with ball gloves and full-faced hockey helmets.

Two of the more memorable hits: Getting dinged by Hal Sutton in the hip while standing behind a par3 at the '84 Canadian Open. He gave me the ball and a glove after. Getting hit by a Charlie Sifford tee shot in the calf at the '90 Tradition.

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

Unfortunately I got hit the first time I ever played a round of golf, and on the 1st hole no less.

Damn should have known then to quit .

Dad hit me in the back of my leg. Fortunately it was right below the back of my knee so there's enough fat there so it didn't hurt too bad.

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

I actually have a pretty good one.

2009 President's Cup, Harding Park

I am walking with Evan(former mod of this forum) and my dad along what I believe was the 5th fairway, left side. It was the 2nd half of the day, pretty early in those rounds. We were probably 250 out from the tee box, didn't notice anyone on the tee box so we were walking a bit closer. Robert Allenby pulled his drive to our side and was within an inch of my arm. I was wearing short sleeves and the hair on my arm felt wind/contact. Of course everyone around flooded to the scene, but we took the opportunity to cross over to the 9th. I hoped to see it on the replay that night, but i looked and didnt see anything.

man cant hit a huge green from 35 yds away but a small moving target at 100 yds? no problem
Lmao, that's just funny because it's so wrong. I have never been hit that I can remember. I hit an older gentleman once at an executive course on a short par 3. He was on the next tee which was just to the right of the green. I hit a high fade which supposedly hit him square in the back (I couldn't see as the tee is behind a bush). Needless to say, he wasn't pleased.

The funniest near-miss I witnessed was that of my dad. He was standing about 50 yards away from his friend/colleague and at a 45 degree angle ahead. My dad appeared to be watching him hit but must have been daydreaming or something because I watched as if in slow motion as the ball wizzed right past him, merely feet away, yet my dad didn't even flinch. My brother and I still give him **** about it.
