Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

Another story. friend in middle school rode his bike to school and was late one day. Come into school late all scratched up and we were like dude where were u, he said all he remembers was riding his bike to school and then waking up face down on the sidewalk. Apparently, some dude shanked a shot and hit him while riding his bike down a sidewalk next to the hole and knocked him off his bike and out for a few. He had a welt on his skull too.

Funny to think the golfers prolly saw him passed out and booked it out of there.

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

I mark my ball on the elevated green of a par 4. My friend is off the green on the right and is about to chip up onto the green. He just missed the green, but there's a severe grassy slope off to the side so his ball rolls to a point where the green is probably 20 feet over his head so he can't see the top of the flag, much less the green. As I'm walking off the front of the green to get out of the way he goes ahead and hits and pegs me on the shin resulting in a golf ball size bump pretty much immediately.

A couple of months later the same friend gets 2 birdies on the front 9 of a different course. Not scorecard birdies but ducks he hits. First one = broken leg. Second one = dead.

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

I used to play competitively and one afternoon during a practice round for a tournament I got nailed just below the neck by some guy teeing off on the next hole. He never yelled fore and I never saw it coming. I didn't really react but the guy I was playing went absolutely nuts, hit the ball back at the guys and started screaming at them when they come over to us. LOL

It is not just balls you have to look out for. My boss has just been hit on the ear by his daugthers driver in the backswing. He doesn't really like that everyone is making fun of him.

Mucking round with a mate around the green. He was up the hill and told me to hit it back to him, he was 15m away, went for a big flop shot to be fancy. Managed to thin it straight at him and got him just below the eye, went to the ground like a tonne of bricks. Thankfully he was ok, just a small blackeye some how.

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

in my golf PE class the teacher got up on the green we were hitting to and gave everyone a chance to try to hit him from 75 yards. i was the only one in the class that was any good at golf, and what he was banking on was that everyone would focus on him so much that they wouldnt hit their shots well. i lined mine up and made a nice swing and it looked good in the air. it hit him right in the chest and he went down for a minute and then got up pretty pissed off. i was surprised i still got an A+ in the class.

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

Went early one day and some people were raking the traps and didn't seem to care that our foursome came up so I just hit into the green. It's going in one person's general direction so I yell "FORE!" They start running away from the green and right towards the flight of my ball and it hits her in the hand. One of the guys came out and said it was broken. I felt bad for her but I didn't feel guilty at all or seek her out to apologize.

Most of the times I accidently hit into people they are very friendly about it. I think most people I meet while golfing are just nice people.

Only the one time. Probably close some other times but none I specifically remember. I just meant the times you barely roll it up to them or you hit into some trees that border two holes and things of that nature. Although when I was young and stupid I did purposely hit into people a few times, but I have not done that in years.

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

As a teen, I worked at a pro shop, along with a couple of other young guys. We'd hit balls at night from just outside the pro shop over some pine trees to the 2nd green down below.

One I was practicing said green when one of my workmates decided to hit some balls in my direction. He hit a three wood that caught flush in the back of the head...

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

I was playing in a winter pairs competetion. It was the 16th hole which is a long par 3 and my partner has muffed his shot short and left over a hill.

I was stood on the back of the green waiting for him to play his blind shot when all of a sudden I get smashed right on top of the head. I knew what had happened but it felt like someone had hit me on the head with a hammer, the force was crazy.

It took all the energy out of me and I was on the floor in the freezing -4C weather. (Why the fk was I playing golf anyway). After 30 minutes the ambulance couldnt get to me as it was frosty which made the ground slippery. I refused to move because I was in so much shock I think (I was only 17 at the time) and was eventually airlifted to hospital.

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

I was reminded of this one by my playing partner today.

We were up in Michigan on a Saturday playing the first of two 18s. Hilly course and the 6th hole was a dogleg left. One of our players is in the trees left and our foursome is searching for the ball.

This all happened very fast. I noticed that our carts were in a depression in the fairway and likely not visible from the tee. I stepped through the treeline to wave to the players on the tee behind us just as my brother launches his drive. I couldn't see it for sure. Then a terrible sight. Joey lunges forward on the tee and let's out a desperate "fore." You know the kind that scares you when you hear it.

I ducked quickly behind a tree and heard two sounds. One was the ball hitting the ground near me with a thud followed by what sounded like the ball hitting a tree(or a coconut). Turns out it was my playing partner's head. He was down on his knees dazed. He tried to play on, but was feeling nauseous and we encouraged him to get to the clubhouse and ice pack it.

Nasty bump but it is a good thing the ball bounced first.

Plus it was a prepaid trip and the poor guy got cheated out of the day's golf.

Re: Hitting someone/being hit by a golf ball.

Just wanted to bring back this thread because I got hit by a golf ball during my last round (yesterday).... We were walking off the green when suddenly a golf ball bounced off my right chest. I didn't realize it was a golf ball until I looked down and saw it on the ground. My friend saw it bounce off my chest. It actually didn't hurt, but I have a purple bruise to show (near the armpit area). Apparently the shot was an errant slice shot over some trees, so it was hard for the person hitting to see where the ball landed (we played the same hole 2 holes back), hence no "FORE!".
