The bet was all top 20. Obviously some of those are legitimate handicaps but I think I'd have the best of it against all 20 together with my own real handicap. But this will never happen and I knew that when I made the post Just seems silly to try and make yourself look good with a sick HC probably 5-10 points above your real one, and should you ever find yourself in vegas or somewhere else with a 2p2 golf game going you're going to get creamed!

I put my foot in my mouth a bit, I just played my first round of golf in two years today so my old USGA 9 HC is looking more like a 18-20 atm (shot a 45/36 on the front before giving in to some wicked heel blisters). Given the summer to practice I'd be up for a Vegas get together at any course, I've never gotten the chance to play there.

But my point of the post was that I thought this thread was also a gambling tool as well as a community thread to monitor personal progression. My old 9 HC was arrived at when I was in peak physical condition after 4 years of everyday summer golf, and I played at a large private course with a strong amateur scene where we didn't have one person below a 2 HC. And given the average physique, physical ability and laziness of poker players, my guess is no more than 8 or 9 of the 33 players with a sub 5 HC are being anywhere near honest. I think any golfer with a real sub 10 handicap used to mid-high stakes gambling would be +EV against the top 20 on this list, and I think any intelligent gambler would want part of that players action. Am I way off?

If you want that bet without handicaps, I'm sure you'll get takers.
If you want that bet with handicaps, aren't you in effect saying that you think your handicap is more inflated than theirs.

As for playing the top 20, I'm a single digit handicapper, a former collegiate golfer (D2), a former club pro, and I would want no part of playing all of the top 20 for $1000 a hole.

Agreed, I'd be nervous at playing 1k a hole even though I had about 8 handicap advantage on you. Mostly cause I'm poor and play like crap when big money is on the line. I'm in to play tho if anyone is in the Orange County area or if weevil wants to go HU on the course.

Who would gamble against someone with a 10-20 HC edge against you without using handicaps

Say 50% of the top 20 on this list are fudging by 5 or more strokes (which I think is conservative). If you play a round of $1k/hole skins, you've got quite a big edge assuming the stakes don't put you off your game, which is why I stipulated someone taking up this bet against the top 20 would have to be comfortable doing so.

Against those with real + handicaps, since they generally play very close to their handicap on any given day, and a 10 handicapper has a lot more variance, you can get creamed pretty bad, and a skins format is probably a lot worse for you than match play since squaring holes is a lot cheaper than losing 2+ pushed skin, so that'd be another stipulation. Or maybe I mean skins without pushing. Betting on matchplay would probably just be a lump sum to the winner?
