I see you talk about putting a lot. I am curious if you are practicing putting at all?

I haven't visited this thread recently since I haven't kept my handicap this year (I decided not to play with the men's association from the past years where I kept a GHIN handicap). So, maybe this Q has been answered and I missed it scrolling through the posts:

What is the best free online handicap calculator?
And are there any online handicap services that are recog'd by golf tournaments? (We have a county tournament with a handicap section.)

A related idea (less fun, but more doable), would be to have a virtual tournament. Everyone has a week to play on their home/favorite course, then report scores.

Could have an open section with handicaps less than 3.1 or whatever...and then an A and B flight. And based on course slope and rating, just adjust the scores.

Just finished my first season ever and I had a blast. I honestly thought I would be better than this by now, but I guess I haven't put in enough rounds. I only started playing the actual course a bunch a month ago, but have hit it hard since. I think I am going to take some time off from trying to get in as many holes as possible and work on my game around the range for a while.

I am so into golf right now and seriously thinking about making it a bigger part of my life (career wise)

Yeah, guess it isn't finished yet I must have been drunk when writing that. But I did finish my first 20 rounds for a handicap!

I use Yahoo's Handicap tracker. I haven't tried any others so can't really say how it stacks up.

I do know that the USGA doesn't allow anyone to use their handicap formula (and courts have upheld this, even enjoining a company that used the formula in their software) so any handicap service you use besides USGA is going to be a little off so I doubt you can use them for tournaments.

That said, it's only going to be off by a stroke or two at most so for anything unofficial it should be fine.

Not much updating for most of the folks here, but mine went up from 1.5 to 2.2 in June. I probably couldn't even play to that, since I've only got one round in July (due to my father passing away earlier in the month, among other things). Let's see, I'd have to get Clark 25 shots....and he'd beat me 10 and 8.

Haha I did the exact same thing in the last two tournaments of my high school career: I was -2 through 14 holes at the conference championship and ended up shooting a 78, and I was -2 through 9 at regionals and shot a 45 on the back.

I had someone pick up a putt for me when we were playing and said it was good. This really irritated me. I always putt out and this was a 4 foot putt! The next hole I lagged to within 2 feet and walked up really quickly on it to make sure I could hit it and proceeded to 2 putt. Grrr!

Probably playing from the different tees. The further back, the harder the course rating. I'm a n00b though, so you may want to double check. I know some courses do have multiple 18 hole courses.

There is definately a difference between the european hcp system and the american. My actual hdcp in my country is 4,0 but when I threw in the info of my last 20 rounds into a usga hdcp calculator it came out as a 1,8 so I guess thats the number that I should post here...

No, no, no. A USGA handicap of 1.8 is usually converted to +1.2 on the interwebs.

Some of the guys I play with play the 1-ups.

Also, we have 3 9-hole courses at my club, so the different 18 hole combinations have different ratings/slopes.

Last i checked i was a 2.1 ... I probably play to about a 5 now.

I've been playing pretty consistently since I was 26, I'm 31 now. My handicap is 23.4 currently; I don't use the Equitable Score thingy, and we always hole out (no max on score). I'm currently in my final year of grad school, where I plan to play a minimum of 4 rounds a week (werd).

I've heard arguments from people about how the handicap system is very flawed. Can anyone expound on this?
