I brought it up to one of the groups of guys I golf with. All poker players, all gamblers, and we do big prop bets.
I asked them my line (13.7 handicap). They gave me 106. I'm not convinced, but we will do this bet at some point in the near future.

Should snap take the bet vs your pro at over under 80.

Okay so I went out today for my practice round. Much tougher then I thought. I was real happy I did it though because I learned about some strategy.

I think it is best to never hit driver off of the tees if you are somewhat spewy. You can eliminate big numbers and just hit greens one over regulation and make a lot of bogeys.

I started the round out terribly due to leaving myself in difficult spots off the tee. My putting was good and I only had 2 3-putts.

I then played the back nine more conservatively playing 4 iron off most tees, except on the par 5s where I played 5 wood. I didn't attempt to hit any greens in two, but tried to leave myself wedges into the greens.

So I went 52 front, and 50 back. So a 102. This bet will be harder then I thought, but fortunately it's been postponed another week, so more practice for me.

I will say it is very discouraging playing this format. I think it's great practice, but mentally difficult always playing the worst shot. And making two 6 footers in a row is easier said then done.

+1. No club pro would have a shot at breaking 80.

Mike Small would disagree.

Glad your eyes are now open as to the difficulty of this format.

Also very discouraging after you hit a great first ball, and miss with the second.

Re: Golf Prop Bet proposed at the tables

just asked my dad (20+ handicap but would tell you he is a 12 but he hasnt made a putt over 3 feet in over a decade and plays multiple mulligans per side) if he thinks he can break 100.

"dont see why not."

Based on Norman's best score ever being 72 i would take even money on Mike Small not breaking 80 on a decently difficult track(par 72).

On a tour track, agreed. On Mike Small's home course, I think he does it frequently. Although I have no idea how tough his home course is.

Re: Golf Prop Bet proposed at the tables

Just got stuck behind a slow group so I played this format for the last 7 holes ... Par 26 I shot 38 (4 hcp) this is tough. You have to be so cautious from 12-15 feet because making 2 4-5 footers in a row isn't a given. Also I was three off the tee on a hole. If I had to do this bet I would make sure on tight holes to hit something that can't be a penalty off the tee even if it leaves 200 in ... Bogeys are gold in this format

Yeah -- I might prop this pro though my golf club lacks many hazards so that is in his favor. Obviously putting is the big key here. Hopefully, since he qualified for Kiawah, he's feeling a little extra-confident.

I also proposed this to Dufner on Twitter and he says he'd shoot "around even." Fishies everywhere!

Re: Golf Prop Bet proposed at the tables

I did this today at Shoreline Golf Course outside Omaha, NE. Rating was 72.7 and slope was 127. I am a 6 hdcp.

I shot 85 playing the worst ball scrambling out and 64 scrambling the best ball out. So basically I played 2 shots off the tee, then 4 shots rest of way in, hitting 2 from the best of the best shot and 2 from worst of the worst shot until I'd holed out.. I played much better than average(top 10% type round), and find it hard to believe I could shoot much better than that. I had 1 double bogey and 1 triple bogey. I actually made 2 birdie putts on the first try but both times missed the 2nd one. The course makes a massive difference in this bet. If I played my home track which is around 75 rating and 147 slope I think I would struggle to break 100.
