Rise - prolly too lazy to sign up for AGA and pay the fees to play but I hear ya. If I was on my game I feel like I can get it around in -2 to +1 pretty easily. I doubt that really contends but could at least have some fun. But seriously I'm struggling the last few rounds out of the blue and it's pissing me off lol

Haha, this entire statement is true of me as well except the part where I "should be back to scratch fairly soon". That ship has sailed baby. Allen Iversen and I have similar philosophies on practice.

(BTW Gainey Ranch was our home course my last three years at Brophy, but that was almost certainly not the case when you were there. I think they went back to Phoenix CC - where we were my freshman year - or somewhere else back in the late 90s.)

I do play with some scratch or better golfers including "Ice Trey" Martin, who is a great guy and AZ amateur of the year in 2013, but I can't think of how that could be parlayed into a trade. An intro though, sure.

I graduated in 05' and we played Phoenix CC Monday and Wednesday, Grayhawk on Tuesday and Thursday, and Legacy on Fridays.

BTW, I got my schedule for next week and I have Wednesday and Thursday off. If you, Durango, and Rise4ndFire want to play just post in this thread which day works best and we will figure something out. We'll have to go out after the last paying tee time, which means we should be able to get out sometime between 2:30-4pm, really just depends on the day.

Also, the course is in super awesome shape right now, probably the best I've ever seen it in. It's supposed to be cooler next week, so I hope that means we aren't as busy and could get out around 3 or maybe sooner, and get 18 or close to 18 in.

Kzy - okay cool I will keep you posted about next week

Btw I graduated from Shadow Mountain in 2002 so I am just a few years older than you. I played as the #1 or #2 my senior year and we got runner up in state if u remember that. You might have been a freshman I guess. We lost in state at Estrella mountain ranch to red mountain with Charlie beljan (he's decent these days) but at least we got runner up lol.

My squad was pretty damn nice my senior year because we had three good seniors and 3-4 solid sophomore/juniors. Did you know anyone on the shadow mountain team? We played at HUGE LOL cave creek all four years as my home course.

Just googled the scores from my senior year and it looks like brophy got 5th when we got the runner up banner. It would have been the fall 2001 state tourney so you may have not even been at brophy yet I'm not sure?

Ah, high school golf. Seems like a lifetime ago. Miss it.

I'm playing Vistancia tomorrow so if I play something halfway decent I should be fine to play next week.

I'm able to do Thursday next week if that works for you guys. Really liked Longbow the one time I played it. Interesting course and was was in really good shape.

I remember that Red Mtn team, they were unbelievably stacked. A former friend of mine was the #4 player on that team, and he had won multiple JGAA events. Beljan and Mueller were a pretty damn good 1, 2 combo.

I only played at Brophy my Junior and Senior Years (04' & 05') and I'm sure I knew kids that went to Shadow Mountain but I don't have the best memory. My team my senior year was really good, I think we choked really hard and still got 4th in state.

Funny story, I had a really good summer between my Junior and Senior years, and at the start of my senior year I was playing #2-4 on the team and playing well. I started sliding towards the end of the year, but I was still playing every match and tournament, mostly as the #4 or #5 player.

When it came time for the coach to pick the region/state team he told me and this freshman it was between us for the 5th spot (We still had a tournament left before region, and a practice round at the State champ course). During our last tournament I played extremely well, I think I shot -1 over 27 holes and got 2nd in the tournament, while the freshman kind of choked and was +7 I think.

Then when we went to the course where state was being held and had our practice round I shot 73 w/ a triple (course was insanely difficult I remember) and the freshman shot an 82, while we were both playing with the coach. I ended up not getting picked, which looking back on it was purely due to politics since the freshman had super loaded parents who had gotten our whole team on forest highlands while staying in their mansion, and other stuff too.

Funniest part is 73-76 won state that year, and the freshman shot 75-75 to finish 3rd and be all state. I'm still bitter about it lol.

Bleh, that sucks KZ.

What I remember most about HS golf was having some of my best friends on the team for 5+ years (we were K-12 and allowed to play V in 7th grade, which is when I walked on). Having practice every day was so much fun and it's nice to look back on how much better we got over the years and the paths we took to get there. We had a few pretty good players all within a year of each other. Unfortunately our conference tournament was only one round when we were playing, so I ended up with two solo 2nds, a 3rd and 5th out of 6 years playing Varsity. As a team we won by a bunch my senior year.

Rise4ndFire,

Guessing that wasn't in Arizona...but evidently somewhere warm enough to play.

durango - even though most of my teammates had parents that belonged to country clubs (PV and Moon Valley primarily) which we used as backups when our home course was tied up, we slummed our share at Encanto. No shame in that. The biggest bad team : great course ratio in our region was Paradise Valley HS. Their team sucked every year but they played at Troon Country Club. One time we had a match there where Ted Purdy shot even par...without a single par. Three birdies, an eagle on the short par-4, and five bogeys. Shadow Mountain was in our region too but I can't remember their home course at the time.

kzy - that is a ridiculous story about getting bumped for state team. Just wtf. We played at Forest Highlands my junior year. Tom Weiskopf's son was in my class but wasn't good enough to make the team that year but Tom was still nice enough to let us all play there for free anyway. It was the best course I played for many years.

Back then, they used to hold every other state tournament in a place outside of Phoenix to mix it up out of deference to the teams from elsewhere. My freshman year we played at Fort Huachuca. There was one green that was so steep that they had a three putt maximum and about a four group backup on the tee. That was apparently the end of the tradition though because the next two years were Ocotillo and Arrowhead C.C. (both of which we won, the latter in a pretty wild two team, ten man playoff), before evidently coming to a long-term agreement with Karsten. Not only does Karsten kinda suck, one of the regions played the divisional the week prior. It may seem like sour grapes, but that seemed like a pretty big competitive advantage over the rest of us who played elsewhere. Sure enough, the two teams that finished ahead of us that year had been out there the week before, Red Mountain and Saguaro. To be fair though we didn't play all that well and probably didn't deserve to win anyway.

I hear they stayed at Karsten for a long time as planned before eventually ending up at Aguila (huge improvement). Not sure if there was anything in between.

As for next Wednesday/Thursday, I'm in the midst of a big project and this next week is gonna suck. Plus I have committed to something after work on Wednesday that's a one-time thing.

Plus, how about the weather? Checked it on my phone earlier and they had rain icons for ALL of the next five days. I assume that will change but by Wednesday it could be wet, cart path only, and slow. Would be open to doing it soon though. Thanks for the initiative.

Last minute question. In Phx for a wedding tomorrow curious any reasonably priced recommendations with club rentals to play tomorrow?

Thanks

Ah. Well I probably didn't need to know that anyway cuz other than golfnow.com I'm not sure there is a hot lead on anything on what will be one of the most high demand weekends of the year (until it starts raining anyway).

Not sure if cost is an issue but for that area (Central Scottsdale) I would look at

Camelback Ambiente - redesign that's been open about a year and is pretty great

Talking Stick
- probably a little overpriced but good location and will be in good condition

McCormick Ranch
- a friend played it last week and said it was in very good condition

All of those should have rental sets.

Mostly put together that list so you avoid places like Phoenician, Silverado, or Starfire that are close to the ones above but kinda suck.

If you're farther up north towards Kierland you can look at Kierland (way overpriced though this time of year), TPC Champions (hell of a course, gets no press due to playing second fiddle to the tournament course), or Wildfire, which is at the Marriott hotel and hosts an LPGA event.

Or if you have time to leg it out to We-Ko-Pa that is always recommended.

Hope this is useful.

No worries, we'll get out some time in the next couple of weeks. I'm actually kind of pumped for it to be colder and rainy, as we probably won't be near as busy and I'll be able to get 18 in.

The last two days have been unbelievably busy, today being probably the busiest (and slowest) I've ever seen it out there. We were pretty much booked solid from our first tee time at 7am until 530pm. Starting at about 1pm we were out of carts and had to turn them pretty much immediately after they came off 18 so the group that was next up could get to the teebox. It was unreal.

Kzy - when I used to work at Orangetree it was the same deal. Turn and burn carts until 3:30-4:30 everyday. Somehow back when I was working there we would do a single tee and have two service guys open and two close (one morning guy stay until about 2 and other leave at 11:30-12 and then we would have 2-3 cart washers and 1 range guy come in at 2:30 pm and the tips would only be split between us 4 service guys lololololol. Needless to say we made solid money and the 16 year old high school kids grinded carts and range for like $8/hr

Yeah, let me know when you guys plan to meet up. I'll be out of town for a few days the week of 3/15 but I can usually do THU/FRI/SAT and sometimes Sunday if it's early enough. Don't care where we play.

Played Orangetree again yesterday...continues to be in really good shape and greens are money so it plays decently hard because chipping is tough with the greens being quick. Wild round...3 birdies and an eagle on the front and only shot 34 then donked off a 40 on the back. So shot 74 with three doubles....pretty frustrating to say the least

That sounds sick. Right now we are splitting between 3 openers and 4 closers, with most of the openers staying til at least 3pm when we are busy. You guys must have been killing it!

If you still want to (of if you can) play on Thursday this upcoming week I'm still down. Let me know soon though. I've got a lot of guys I play with (they're more about drinking beer than playing competitively though lol) and I'm still trying to plan 4 somes for Wednesday and Thursday. Durango (if you see this), you're invited either day as well.
