lol, yeah pine canyon/forest highlands is an extremely different animal than pinewood........but I would still be excited to play pinewood. Like I said it's not a long track, I think somewhere around 6600 yards and plays much shorter due to elevation. Some holes are a little narrow so it's best to lay back and hit wedge into the green rather than trying to drive the green. Main defense of course is small, fast greens as I said. Greens are always pretty soft though and you can spin it back pretty good most of the time.

There's no really signature holes or beautiful holes but it's just a fun track to try to make a bunch of birdies........but like I said, if you get in some of the rough by the greens and it's a tough flag you can easily make double bogey if you aren't careful.

Just be prepared for it to be super busy because it's relatively cheap and there's not a ton of public golf options in flagstaff. I think pinewood is semi private so they have some members and along with public play so on the weekends it's nuked. AKA bring a lot of beer/booze

playing pointe lookout mountain this afternoon with a few buddies for free...always liked the course because I grew up right down the street from it. It's pretty tricky and you have to keep driver in the bag a lot of the time but if you keep it in the grass you can get some good birdie looks.

hopefully it's still it pretty decent shape, will report back as always

pointe lookout mountain was pretty fun yesterday....it was pretty windy and the course is relatively dried out so it played pretty tough with balls rolling out forever and sometimes into trouble that you didn't think you could reach. Ended up making 5 birdies but shooting 2 over due to a stupid triple on #12 playing like a donkey.

Par 5's were playing shorttttttttttt

fairways were a little sparse in some spots which is to be expected this time of the year but the greens were very solid and rolled true (lots of grain though as always there)

Got in 18 at McDowell Mountain in just under 2 hours yesterday. Just aerated the greens but 15 bucks.

how did you like it? I would rate McDowell Mountain okay at best. It's definitely better than it used to be but just still feels cramped in there under those power lines, etc. A few of the holes are still really narrow and #18 from the tips into the wind might one of the hardest holes in the state lol

18 is ridiculous. 17 is tough too just because of the awkward distance. This was my third time out there. I enjoy it because its 5 mins from work, its been pretty empty this summer and its a good price. Plus the new restaurant is cool and everyone who works there is super friendly. I'll definitely be trying some other tracks out the rest of the summer.

^LOL you guys. Only played Mcd. Mtn once but birdied 18 (tips). Easy game.

Seriously, though, 17 & 18 are a tough finish.

Also, just moved to the E. Phoenix area (near Biltmore). Any courses out there within a 1/2 hour drive that are worth checking out? I've played most of the mid/north Scottsdale tracks but haven't played much out west except for Southern Dunes and Moon Valley. I'm a little closer to Quintero now, but that was a must-play on my list that I'll get to before summer's over.

Rise - legacy and whirlwind are must plays IMO...fun tracks always in good shape

Also Aguila (city course) is one of our favorites that's in reach for you

Just don't bother with Biltmore. I live ON the course and have played it once in the past decade. Would rather drive 15 minutes to Papago, probably play less, and get a much better course.

Speaking of which, played Papago late this afternoon. Very windy from the 2nd tee onward but got lucky by avoiding most of the rain except for a brief stretch early on the back. Got around in just over two hours, which is a great pace since I ran into a friend who joined me for the front nine.

Greens were as slow as I can remember but not terrible. I guess they've had some issues with them this summer they're finally getting past.

Are Legend Trail's greens in good shape? Hoping they're not punched.

Anyway, if you see a hot deal on golf now for, say, 12:54 tomorrow, what they don't mention in the amenities section is the rare honor of playing with THE Rise4ndFire.

Played Legacy yesterday and it was in awesome shape per the usual. Play it all the time and it seems to be just as good in the dead of summer as in the peak of summer for 1/3 the cost.

Did Ahwatukee Country Club today and that place sucks. Greens were ok but i think they rely on the monsoon rains to feed the fairway or something. It was super cheap but you definitely get what you pay for.

Legend Trail was in decent shape. They apparently had some heavy rain last night, so it was cart path only. Was a great excuse to walk 18. The course wasn't cut as fast as I'd like it, as one might expect, but I love the layout up there. Spent about as much on gas as I did for the round.

Didn't play great. Hit two poor drives that cost me four shots. Probably leaving driver in the bag on #2 permanently out there. Even into the wind. Putted well and ended on a good one. Stuck it to an inch on 18.

4 birdies
8 pars
4 bogeys
2 doubles

played papgo at 8:40 on sunday for a robust $14.50/player with cart (teeoff.com hot deal)...

I don't know if they didn't mow the greens on Saturday for you Tuq but Sunday morning the greens were rolling great. We talked to the outside guy and they said they definitely mowed them (didn't ask about Saturday). Granted they weren't the fastest greens ever but definitely smooth and putted well. The $2 domestic pints from the cute bev cart girl destroyed my game and shot my worst round of the summer with tiday 38-42 = 80. Pretty weak sauce...the course is definitely a beast from the tips these days!

Ya it is kinda exhausting.

I had a blast at Pinewood this weekend. We got a little rain but overall the weather was perfect. Playing a 3 man scramble and on hole two I said to my buddy watch this and while they were walking to the fringe to chip I yell heads up! They all turn to look and i stuck it to a foot from about 120 or so right as they all watched.

Not really cool to actively hit into people in front of u even if they are your friends but whatever lol

Yeah told you pinewood is a blast...greens still soft and quick??? Lots of birdie chances if u are hitting it straight

If one of my friends did that I'd probably take a half swing with the putter and roll it back to his feet.

All in good fun of course.

Heh I figured someone probably wouldn't like that. I would never do something like that if it wasn't with these exact people obviously.

Yep. Lots of close approaches and the greans were great.

I heard southern dunes only had 9 holes open for awhile for renovations or something (maybe it's got 18 back going now?)

gf out of town this last weekend so got in 3 rounds

Friday after work - played moon valley with my buddy who works there and my other buddy. teed off at 4:30 and easily finished which was cool. greens are decent, nothing special but not terrible. shot 40-35.

Saturday morning - teed off at 7 am at our favorite muni Aguila on the south west side. course was in great shape as always and cheap. $25 or something with a cart for a morning ride is a good deal imo. Greens are solid, not overly fast and held shots nicely. Shot 35-37 and lost to my buddy's gf who shot 71. She's obv pretty solid and she was on the big break mexico (Mckenzie if you remember the show).

Sunday 9 AM we played the pointe lookout mtn for $22 with a cart which is right down the road from my house which was perfect for watching PGA champ afterwards. Really weird round actually...greens are awesome, fast and smooth but fairways are a little spotty and we had to bump a few times in the fairway but not a huge deal. also a little thin in spots around the greens that made for some stupid hard/chip pitch shots that shouldn't have been that hard. shot 35-37 same exact scores as Saturday. Had 5 birdies but 3 jacked three holes in a row on the back nine 10/11/12 which might be a first in my career ever. if you know the pointe then you know if you don't hit it particularly close on that stretch you can have some brutal putts and I obv butchered them.

Pointe is def quirky but you can really have some birdie chances if you don't donk off in the desert.

6 week count down to our epic forest highlands trip that I fap about all year long.....

Played The Raven (Phoenix) yesterday. Fun course, a nice change from desert golf. Reminded me of playing in New York. I wouldn't mind playing there again once or twice a year. $20 is a good deal. Paying for range balls sucks though, they need to fix that. If I have to pay for range balls they should at least be cleaned off and not all full of sand and dirt either. Get your **** together Raven. There was very little trouble that required me taking penalty strokes and I was hitting the ball decent (for me). Shot a 48, 44.

Playing Verrado today with EC_Outlaw for $15. Man I love playing golf for these prices. I can actually play 2-3x a week and not feel bad about it. Come winter I'll have to hang it up and just stick to the range.

Yeah I play it probably once a week in the summer. It's 10 minutes from my house. Really love that track and the value.
