Re: Golf in Phoenix

any decent course within 15-20 minutes of the Sheraton Downtown? Also, one that would rent clubs? I'm an 11 handicap and coming out this week (Wed-Friday) for a seminar and don't want to haul my clubs, but might be able to get away.

Re: Golf in Phoenix

Anyone ever played Vista Verde? I've heard really good things about it but its a drive north of where I am in Scottsdale...but the price in the afternoon($50) is good if the reviews I've heard are legit.

Re: Golf in Phoenix

I've only played Tonto Verde, which appears to be an adjacent property and is very nice. So I can't help. But searching reveals it to be 7200 yards and if it's remotely in decent shape I bet it's pretty sweet. That's not the part of town where you would find a bad course.

Yeah i found this....and may try and play it next week - only $50 after 1pm and lots of people compare it to WeKoPa etc in terms of overall quality

Re: Golf in Phoenix

Those replies seem legit, and the pics make it seem legit as well. Seems like a no-brainer, although it's kinda weird that you have to check in at Tonto Verde - I wonder if it even has carts?

Definitely a course I want to play soon, haven't really heard anything about it.

they do have carts, they are stored inside a rent-a-fence and there is a Tuff Shed on site. I heard they do now have a beverage cart. You check in and pay at the Tonto Verde pro shop which is about one mile south then drive your car over. Pace of play is usually very good out there.

Re: Golf in Phoenix

Regardless this course is definitely on my must play list. Please let me know how it goes.

I'm excited about the beverage cart from an ice-getting standpoint but since we tend to smuggle our own drinks onto the course it doesn't do a whole lot more than that for me.

Re: Golf in Phoenix

meh I think my friends are going to bitch out
1 doesn't want to play a tough course cuz he likes playing Silverado/Starfire etc cuz they are so much fun aka. so easy that they can shoot low.
The others are bitching about paying $50.

Are there any good courses out here for $40 or less...

Re: Golf in Phoenix

Not too many given the size of the city. I've played with two of them: Bitcho when he was passing through (has family here) and a semi-lurker who has posted in this forum, we have a mutual friend IRL and all played Papago together about a year ago.

It's possible that some of the other 2+2 posters from here golf but I wouldn't know since they don't post in this forum that I am aware of.

I live in mesa and used to golf 4+ times a week since I was 14. Haven't touched a club since December of last year when I quit my job working at a golf course.

Re: Golf in Phoenix

I work a regular M-F, 8-5 job but play golf every weekend. I'm a legit 3-5 handicap depending on the day can be much better.

I usually play with my buddies who still are degening around working at golf courses like Kierland, Biltmore, OrangeTree, Phoenix CC.
