I'm definitely down for a Mtn. Shadows - cards or CAZ trip (especially since it's not far from there at all). Tuesdays are a bit tricky to get out but given enough notice I can make it happen. Maybe we can get a foursome together, but I'm not sure if they let you select who to play with or not. If four randoms show up, play together, and win big that would be sketchville. I know from all the other razz/skins games around town they generally don't care but then again I usually play with regulars.

been playing at pinnacle peak cc a lot these days as my friends works outside there. been in great shape for the last 2 weeks or so since they don't overseed the greens. They are old school and still have the bent grass which is probably better in the summer!

anyone know any other courses that are getting close to decent shape again. I can't stand putting on greens that are shaggy and slow as hell....would rather grind the 3dollar rebuy on pokerstars and drink beer lol

Haha, yah most of the courses I have played so far have been pretty slow greens. Mountain shadows have been maybe the best, and still not great. I also grind the 3dollar rebuy though too. I don't think I'm going to play at the shadows skins tomorrow, I played Raven at Verrado today and played terribly, I would just be a donation. Gonna work on it this week and play hopefully next week.

I played Firerock, Sanctuary, and Moon Valley CC over the past 2 weeks. Firerock and Sanctuary were both about the slowest greens I've ever putted. Moon Valley was pretty nice though. I'm assuming all the greens are slow now because of overseeding, at least I hope so. I love the weather here. Don't know how I'll move back to Nebraska. If anyone is bored and wants to play sometime or needs a 4th shoot me a pm.

played the pepsi event at starfire sunday monday and have never putted on slower greens. shot 68 71 for 8th 7 paid ugh. the scores werent that stupid low jus cus it was almost impossible to get putts to the hole. bobby kalinowski shot 61 the first day but other than that 66 was low.

mountain shadows was playing super tough today! the wind was up and the pins were the hardest they have been since ive been back in town. shot even par 56 which was tied for 3rd when i left so hopefully thatll hold and make a little money from the gross pot. missed a 8 footer on 17 which is the hardest hole on the course (240 with trees kinda blocking ur tee shot) when i left no one had birdied it, so id be bummed if i missed out on that skin.

if anyone wants to play the foothills a couple times this week thatd be cool. have a tourney there sunday so want to try and figure out the greens better than i did at starfire. its not a great course but its fun and usually in pretty decent condition. shoot me a pm if ur interested

Played Antelope hills North a couple of weeks ago - greens were really good and definitely faster than down here have to contend with the weather cost is 45 good track

As you guys obviously already know, the woefully slow greens are a temporary condition and will subside soon enough. Still, it's extra aggravating to putt when they are slow as hell and I try to avoid a course for the first month after reopening from overseed. We'll see how Stonecreek is on Saturday.

By the way, a friend of mine who works for Troon Golf contacted me to say that he could get me and five others 50% off the early bird rates for Troon Golf passes. I'm waiting to hear back from him as to exact rates but if I'm reading right it looks like no more than $350 for the foursome pass and $200 for a twosome pass, effective now through all of next year. For the first time I am thinking of buying one because the rates are pretty good with it:

Saw way upthread that Tuq thought the ASU Karsten course was kind of goofy and all, but is it in good shape? Know it has to be a decent course and seems like a decent rate. Just doesn't seem to have gotten any love in this thread.

What about Grayhawk? Know they are both great tracks and $100-150 doesn't seem awful compared to the rates at TPC and Troon.

Well I went out to Papago today about 10:30 preparing to play in the game, but there was no such game...? Guy in the shop didn't know anything about it, I felt like an idiot.
So I just practiced for 5 hours which was probably more beneficial

1. Karsten is a Dye course that just aggravates me because its defense is undulation. Lots and lots of it. Very large hills line the sides of each hole, and swales abound in the fairway. I'm just of the mind that it's kind of dumb to hit it right down the middle and have an uphill/downhill/sidehill lie a large proportion of the time. Plus it's not very scenic (abuts a very large power generating station and airplanes constantly fly overhead). That said, I have and will play it for the right price. However that price is often less than they're charging.

2. Grayhawk is a wonderful facility from a service perspective. I've warmed to their courses over the years but still think it's largely the product of marketing hype. The course probably has the largest disparity in rates in and out of season of any course in AZ - play for as little as $30 or so in the summer but good luck getting on for under $200 in high season. Fair courses though, and fun. Like Karsten though their price point is more than I'm willing to pay most of the year / would get better value elsewhere.

The North course is not a goat track and the greens are in great shape and as fast as you could want.

Just because its a muni and you dont have any connections there doesn't mean its a **** track

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...I'm pretty sure in this case "GOAT" doesn't mean what you think it means.

I love Antelope Hills. Even won a couple of state junior titles there a long time ago, and try to get up there at least once per year.

Playing 27 at Ocotillo and either Troon North or Grayhawk in a few weeks.. What would you guys recommend this time of year? Troon North or Grayhawk? Price isn't issue as we're playing with a pro and he gets us on uber cheap.
