Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

played at paiute this week.

They had an unlimited golf deal which included lunch. If you wanted to play the wolf course, it was $20 more. ($130, $110 w/out wolf)

We played wolf and snow for 36holes in a day. personally, i thought snow had the better layout for the mid-handicapper, and i enjoyed it immensely. both courses were superbly maintained. played the second round during a calm and cool afternoon in around 3:20. I thought the island green par 3, was kinda gimmicky, the Snow course flowed with the terrain much better than wolf. that being said, hitting to the island green is kinda cool.

TPC las vegas was also nice. I liked the canyon layout, and as a pac-north-west native it was an interesting experience.

gonna play tuscany or rhodes ranch this weekend.

Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

I am here for another week w/ my clubs and would like to play quite a bit. I'm an average / occasional golfer. I shoot 100-105 but won't slow you down. Staying at the Rio. Not looking to break the bank with any of these rounds (hopefully < $100 or so...?)

PM me ASAP if you want to put something together.

Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

i'll be in vegas end of july/early august. I'm staying at mgm so what are my choices that are close to the strip? So far I see the Wynn and Bali Hai are both on the strip.

Basically I wont have a car, and I dont mind spending some money on each round, but I also dont want to spend like $30 each way in cabs(i'll be playing alone most likely). So what are the best places to go/play at that are fairly cheap/inexpensive to get to, or should I just rent a car while out there?

Thanks.

Personally if you are just going to play one round cab it to Las Vegas National. If you are looking to play more rounds rent a car and subscibe to golfnow for daily specials.

Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

Going to be in Vegas Aug 9-11th. Looking to play some cheap golf. This is what my friend came up with. He mentioned special pricing so not sure where he's getting them since we dont live in Vegas or Nevada for that matter. He does know someone living there so maybe these are for resident rates. The stars rating is from Golf Digest.

If we can only play one course, which one would be best? Our handicap ranks from midteens to 5 or so.

Badlands Golf Club $40 - 4 stars
Bear's Best $57 - 4 stars
Boulder Creek Golf Club $40 - 4.5 stars
Red Rock Country Club $69 - No rating found
Rhodes Ranch CC $27 - 4 stars
Siena Golf Club $69 - 4 stars
The Revere Golf Club $38 - 4 stars

Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

bears best is suppose to be super dope, i havent played it though. its 75$+ for locals, no idea how you got it for that cheap.

badlands is a fairly short target golf course, but is always in immaculate condition and is usually pretty tough. make sure you play the two hard nines (desperado and diablo), dont play outlaw

boulder creek i havent played and havent heard anything about it

red rock is by far the worst on the list. although it has a very scenic layout, its fairly short and is rarely in "vegas" shape.

rhodes ranch is a fun course but it is very easy as the majority of the holes are dead straight. the par 3s are all about 200 from the back tees so that can be a bit challenging but other than that nothing much to say.

the same people that own red rock own siena (or something to that effect) so expect much of the same. the major difference is that sienna has twice as many bunkers as any course in town.

ive only played one course at revere (lexington) and i was super super super impressed with it. the layout was fantastic.

---

edit: i just re-read your post, none of these courses are going to be cheap before 3:30 if you're from out of town.

Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

I would say Badlands or Sienna. like bjohnson said Badlands is trarget golf.

Have not played Bears best but that is a sweet deal. I enjoyed Rhodes Ranch also.

If you can get on TPC or the Pauite courses also good. Pauite has been very cheap in July/August

sign up for golfnow.com daily e-mail specials and you will still get the deals as a tourist

Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

FWIW a couple of my RL friends played Paiute Wolf this past weekend, got a good deal on golfnow, and raved about it. They're both scratch golfers but I guess the course is 7600 yards with an insane rating and slope from the back tees. In any event at least look it up because they said it was a good value. It's also in the top tier on Cl.a.rk's rating of courses (previous page).

On Golf now Pauite Wolf is $64 before lunch and Snow is $54.

It looks like they want to play Royal Links instead for $80 before 6AM or $59 after 3PM.

Uh, oh. Cla.rk is usually right about things (basically most everything except the 1993 Bulls), and I've bolded the relevant:

1. Coyote Springs (45 mins North of strip) – Impeccably groomed, very driver friendly, great par 3’s, requires tons of thought to get around the course. Very difficult, well protected greens.
2. Reflection Bay (30 mins SE of strip)– Tough course, offers different strategies, well maintained.
3. Paiute Wolf (30 mins NW of strip)– Most difficult greens to read in Vegas. Reachable par-5’s, very challenging.
---------------------------------------------------------
4. Wolf Creek (75 mins N of strip)– Plays like a video game. If that’s your cup of tea, it’s a blast. I find the rough to be overly punitive for a course that is difficult on its own.
5. TPC Las Vegas (formerly TPC Canyons) (15 mins NW of strip)– The staff is a little lame, but the course is very solid and well maintained. Tough greens, got to know where to miss.
6. Bear’s Best (25 mins W of strip)– Just a rock solid track. Tends to play slow.
7. Wynn (on strip) – Very nice, very expensive, tricky greens.
8. Rio Secco (20 mins S of strip)– I think the greens are a little circus-like. Outstanding course though.
9. The Falls (30 mins SE of strip)– Temporarily closed sister course to Reflection Bay. Not in the same league, but still a great course.
----------------------------------------------------------
10. Bali Hai (on strip) – Expensive but nice. Cool bunkers. Limited practice facilities.
11. Primm Valley Resort (45 mins S of strip)– Not my favorite and a bit of a hike, but always in good shape and easy to play fast on.
12. Badlands (15 mins NW of strip)– Target golf that frankly takes a little creativity out of the game. Course recently re-did their greens and they are in excellent shape. Agree with those who note Outlaw is a really lame 9 and its better on Desperado and Diablo.
13. Paiute Snow Mountain (30 mins NW of strip)– Challenging course with a great final 3 holes.
14. Casablanca Golf Resort (75 mins N of strip)– Very nice course.
----------------------------------------------------------
15. Royal Links (20 mins E of strip) – Haven’t played but friends disliked it strongly.
16. The Legacy (15 mins SE of strip)– Been a while since I’ve played it but really enjoyed it.
17. Revere at Anthem Lexington (20 mins S of strip)– Solid course other than really lame hole #10 I think it is.
18. Boulder Creek (30 mins SE of strip)– Tends to play fast, nice course.
19. Paiute Sun Mountain (30 mins NW of strip– Easiest of the three Paiute courses.
20. Rhodes Ranch (20 mins SW of strip)– Plays closest to a Midwestern course than most in Vegas.
-----------------------------------------------------------
21. Red Rock Arroyo (25 mins W of strip) – Not the best maintained.
22. Revere at Anthem Concord (20 mins S of strip)– Decent, good views, not very imaginative.
23. Angel Park (15 mins NW of strip)– Slow, glorified muni. Nice night-lit par-3 course though.
24. Desert Pines - Muni

Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

I am heading to vegas August 28-31st and am looking to play a round of golf on the 30 and 31st with my brother. Im taking him down for his 21st. Im looking to spend around a $100 (anymore would probably be a waste due to the massive hangovers we will probably be suffering from imo). Will I be able to find a decent course at this price on a weekend? What courses should I check out? Is there a website anyone would recomend to find the best deals?

That seems to be the consensus best site. Looking at this Friday's rates as a starting point, it seems that you can get sub-$100 rates at some courses that are fairly well regarded by the posters in this thread. Although it's funny that Bali Hai goes to the trouble of posting a rate that is a 2% discount to $195. Use this thread (Cla.rk's post above if anything) and other sites to determine value.

Guys,

www.ezlinks.com has better deals than Golfnow is what my friend said. I've havent checked out ezlinks since they dont have any courses in my area. But for Vegas, the prices I listed in my post above came from ezlilnks.
