Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

Dom, what's your typical weekly money game?

What kind of cost per round would i be looking at in mid-march? Thinking of flying out four days (sun-wed) and would prob play 5 rounds. Can we play solid courses for <$60 a round then? Maybe splurge on a couple rounds around $100 each.

Seems like a good investment to get a fake local ID if you plan to golf.

In March? You could probably do that. We usually play a $5 skin with double for birdies, greenies, and sandies. Then maybe a press on the 18th.

You can usually keep losses below $100 doing that. Usually.

Nope.

the only time the courses are empty is when it is 110+ degrees during the summer. any other time they are always packed.

Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

I can vouch for the 110+ nobody on the course. When I played TPC Las Vegas this Summer with Dominic there might have been 1 of 2 other people on the course. It's always fun playing < 3 hour rounds.

Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

Just got back and here is my ratings of the courses
  • Cimera ( Tuscany) Still a favorite of mine was in great shape all around
  • Sienna have not played this in a while. Was in really good shape love the club house also
  • Pauitte We played Sun and Snow and took advantage of the Loolopozza offer which included lunch. By far one of my favs. Everything about this course is excellent
  • Badlands Used to like this but in the worst shape ever including the range. Rumors have it that it may close looks like it the way its run

Redrock is aging a bit but with the new mall beside it still an ideal location and a decent Poker Room to boot that is well run. I enjoyed my stay other than maintenance working on a pipe outside my room between 2:00 AM -5:00 AM. It had been leaking for days and they had a bucket out. Heck we even emptied the bucket a few times

no longer rumors...they said on the news last night that it is now closed. Developers are in the process of negotiating with the city to get the land zoned for residential homes; the home owners around the golf course are fighting it.

That's a shame...I really like Badlands...fun course...lots of fun carries and multi-level fairways and greens. Easy to lose a lot of balls!

Agreed

Also if you bought a house that borders the course would not its value drop sharply if you know have neighbors behind you

Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

I played Coyote Springs for the first time in a while on NYE. Only cost $29 as a Nevada resident and the fee includes a cart, driving range and a few other small things. Such a fun (but tough) course to play, it is always in great shape and the setting is really pretty out there.

If u live in LV and have never played out there, u really need to check it out. being able to play that course for that cheap is a steal.

Even as a tourist its a great play and worth the drive. Not sure why they put it way out there in the middle of nowhere

years ago that whole area was supposed to be developed into a PGA village and a subdivision of expensive homes. they built the course first (thankfully) and then the bubble burst in 2007-2008 so nothing else was built.

Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

Hey folks, heading down with a group Super Bowl weekend and gonna play some golf. One guy threw out Desert Pines and Legacy as the two courses we should play, but I think that's only because a buddy of his recently played both. Looks like rates are about $100 for both that weekend; those courses get decent reviews on here, but are there any other courses we should be looking at in that price range?

Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

First question is if you will have a car or not. If yes look at Paiute. If no then Legacy is fine, I haven't played Desert Pines but I'm sure others will chime in.

We will, sounds like Paiute (Wolf course) is the pick.

Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

Switched things up a bit, golf pro friend got us on for free at Spanish Trail, so we played Canyon/Lakes on Saturday. I really enjoyed it, Lakes more than Canyon, which I thought was pretty boring. If you're able to place shots better than I am I think both nines would be more fun; there's some cool spots where if you can make a shot you can be in some fun spots. I shot an 86 after opening with two doubles and doubling nearly all the par 3s (could not avoid the water); I haven't touched a club since September other than a Top Golf stint, so I was happy enough with that (I'm an 11.1 GHIN). Weather was perfect, IMO: 65 and sunny.

Sunday we played the Sun course at Paiute. Sun seems to be the consistent least-favorite of the three, but I really liked it. Wolf was too hard to get on, as they closed the course down early for Super Bowl. Played 18 in just under four hours despite players out there, which was heaven compared to the just under five at Spanish. Without traffic didn't take as long to get out there from SLS as I thought it might. I've never played golf outside of the NW and the Bay Area, so true "desert golf" was a fun, new experience for me. Wind out there is no joke; thankfully it didn't pick up until the end of the round.

Guys I was playing with got beat up pretty bad at Spanish so we played from the whites, which makes my 79 much less impressive. Came out to a 9 differential, and honestly thought it would be worse than that. Ended double-double after losing a ball in the desert on 17, then plunking a ball in one of only two water hazards on the course on 18. Four birdies on the day, though. Greens were fast but very true.

Re: Golf in Las Vegas Superthread

I have to make it out to Paiute one of these days.

I'm working contacts hard right now to try and get out on Shadow Creek for a free/discounted rate. Not sure if that one will come through or not.
