I know you're asking Loafer, but Boulder Creek is awesome. May be my favorite Vegas course

Ditto. Only downside is the drive back if your round stretches into late afternoon.

You can often get on <$40 hot deal which makes it one of the best bargains in vegas.

Lots of memorable holes. Tough fours and reachable fives. Always in good condition. Huge practice area. And no houses.

Best courses currently? Will be out in three weeks for a week and would like to play once or twice? Anyone made the trek to Wolf Creek recently? Was there two years ago and was incredible thinking about going again.

How dumb would it be to play golf at 3pm right now? Get in Friday and have time to kill before the rest of the group, thinking about Bali Hai for $60. I assume it's that cheap because it's 50/50 I'll die of heat stroke at that time. I'm from Texas so I have dealt with heat, but 112 seems rough

not dumb at all because no one is on the golf course late afternoons this time of year. being able to play at your own pace is nice.

yes it's hot, just put on plenty of sunscreen and make sure you drink lots of water while u play.

Doing the Golfapalooza thing at Paiute while in town next Thursday. Starting at Wolf, think the 2nd round is Sun. Never played there, what should I expect? I've seen rave reviews. Hoping to make it though both rounds in the heat.

two questions - the 2nd is just an add-on thought and could easily be googled.

1) is the Wynn golf course the same routing as the Desert Inn golf course? or completely different?

2) how far is Shadow Creek from Wynn?

1) no, it isn't.

Primm Valley
Resort, Lakes Course

Primm Valley Lakes is Shadow Creek for those on a budget, minus the exclusivity. Primm is a casino exit off Interstate 15 about 40 minutes south of the Strip. But you won't find the Lakes and Desert golf courses attached to Whiskey Pete's or Buffalo Bill's. You have to go another four miles-plus over the California state line to get to the courses. The fact that they are located over the state line allowed Tom Fazio to design both courses at Primm, which angered Steve Wynn. Wynn's contract with Fazio for Shadow Creek didn't allow him to design another course in Nevada for anyone other than Steve Wynn.

At Primm Lakes you get a sense of what Shadow Creek is like for less than a third of the price. Fazio being Fazio, there is drama all about. A lake and stream system comes into play on 11 holes. Lots of pines (fast-growing for instant maturity) come into play and block off views of many adjoining holes as well as the nearby interstate. Primm is another favorite for conventioneers and, like Paiute, it's best to call ahead for a tee time. If the Lakes is chockablock with an outing, the Desert Course is a more than acceptable alternative.

I've played many rounds on both courses. Prefer the desert course, but both are worth the drive.

That I did. Shot 77-80 on Sun-Wolf. Great shape, great views. Blue cheese bacon cheeseburger for lunch was excellent. The heat got to me when I caught people on the final 9 on Wolf. Birdied 3 of the 5's on Sun.

Didn't like the M2 rentals, but I've never liked Taylor Made clubs. What was funny is they provided a 15th club, a beat up old sand wedge painted red which was described to me as my "snake club" to hit out of the desert with, or to hit snakes if needed. Thankfully only needed it once (and not for a snake).
