Ugh, reading about this "fun" match has managed to piss me off. I can understand playing LC&P if it's wet out, or even playing winter rules if the course is in bad shape, as long as you both agree to it before the first tee. Rolling your ball over in the ROUGH, from behind trees is a bridge too ****ing far. You should have said something about that.

It's funny how the guy is all about keeping it fun, friendly, and doesn't care about winning, yet manages to take every possible liberty to gain an advantage. Slimy bastard.

I don't really understand playing off different tees in a matchplay tournament either. It's a handicap event, you're giving him strokes, seems like you should be playing the same course.

I'm not sure I could have bitten my tongue on the last green with him marking in front of the ball and then placing in front of the mark on a knee-knocker for the match either. I completely understand not wanting to get into it during a "casual" match, probably not worth it. That said, there's only so much you can take. Sorry to hear about how this one played out, I'm sure it left a pretty bad taste in your mouth. It's a shame people have to ruin fun competitions like this by being angle shooting scum.

I played league with my Brother in Law for a couple of years. It was a "fun" league, made up of older retired couple, some husband/wives or various state of dating couples etc you probably get the idea. One year at the "awards" dinner rules discussion came up. The guy who ran the league says, "Are we out here for fun, or blood?" Well I'm not out for blood, but outright cheating isn't what I'm looking for either.

At some point on the first hole he tells me that "they" roll the ball and he encourages me to do so. I tell him I play the ball down. He says well a few fairways are areated so I hope you move it out of those marks. I said "you can do what you want but I am playing the ball down." He then remarks again how this is just for fun/casual thing etc.

acceptable if your ball is in a aeration hole in a closely mowed area. that is it. I'm curious if there was a tournament rules sheet. otherwise whatever you hash out prior to starting the match is the rules. sounds like you didn't want to make a big deal about it and caved to his lift clean and cheat. As far as the contested hole since he was the score keeper, and your claim of winning the second hole while playing the ninth is invalid. All disputes in match play must be settled prior to teeing off on the next hole. You were pencil whipped. Don't let it bother you. Just get all that stuff straight prior to playing next time and it you can win or lose without the aggravation of what if?

Is there a rules sheet? If it says USGA rules anywhere he cheated (well he cheated regardless). Also is there a rules committee or does the pro handle all issues?

This is not real golf, diff tees, rolling it around, blatant cheating on greens, etc.

There was a short rules sheet posted. It did say to play the ball down, but to be fair in granting your opponent relief from what could be construed as ground under repair. There was no mention of who would make any type of decisions on rules disputes. I took for granted this was a friendly competition and it would never come to that.

I now remember my opponent telling me on the first hole "I am not a golf purist." If I could go back in time I would stop the match right there and ask if he would like to forfeit and just play a round for fun. Ah well, water under the bridge now.

Here is a picture of me at the top of my swing with driver. I appear to be holding my breath?

And a 5-iron second shot on the Klondyke at Lahinch.

Sounds like you learned something.

If it's a tournament, you play it by the book. Period. It is your responsibility not to let stuff like this happen. You play it down, you keep score, etc. You trust nobody, this is for blood. Sometimes you have to be a bastard if your opponent is trying to bend you over. Otherwise why even sign up to play?

Sadly, **** like this is commonplace in handicapped events.

You'll be better prepared in a variety of ways next time.

Oh, nits never have these problems.

you hit it on the head bo. Sounds like you have some stories to tell... Since you took the time to stop by any comments on the swing pictures above?

Hey TripleH68

Don't let this discourage you from future events.

Best thing to do is decide if you can live with what your opponent is doing. If you don't call it on the course, you pretty much cant say anything to anybody afterwards.

Except for us of course. lol

You sound like a pretty solid guy and would never say anything bad about this guy.

The worst thing that happens after these types of things is when a person doesn't call a guy out on the course, and then runs him down in the clubhouse...

Keep plugging away. Position at the top of you driver swing looks nice....and loaded...

Thanks very much AK,

There is a pretty good local golf association that runs nice events. I will play in those more structured events in the future.

And you are correct. I am stuck with the result now. I feel like I have learned a great deal from poker - and it is helping me handle this situation. You know basically get over it, bad beat combined with marginal decision making...next round... I have tried to tell family how much I have learned about life from playing poker. They don't get it. Which brings me back here.

Anybody in southeast Michigan/northwest Ohio ever want to get together for a round of golf send me a message.

Honestly, the positions look awesome. Hard to diagnose much without seeing a video though.

A bit hard to tell from the picture, but at the top of the driver back swing it seems like your weight predominantly is on your left foot. You are possibly giving up quite a bit of distance not getting close to a good 20/80 weight distribution.

Awesome read...thanks! We have some funny local club rules that guys take FULL use of. We have a leaf rule when your ball rolls in to an area where 1000's of leaves are covering the ground to help speed up the game. I remember playing our MP and this guy snaps left off tee then walks up to an area with like 30 leaves and announces I will just take the leaf rule and hit from here lol I almost tossed my club at him! The older dudes angle the whole time to get in your heads...fluff ups, marking closer to hole yadda yadda f'ing drives me crazy! But it works
