Re: Can i beat two 12 hcp if they are playing better ball?

They think they are a lock. 3:30 tee time at midland .par 70 rated 72ish. Its actually a 10 and a 12 but they agreed to play tips and legit rules. Plus I got them gambling outside their comfort zone. Here we go

Pretty surprising that you are +1 and only 1 up. I would have guessed you would have been a few up

Yeah they're either playing a really easy course or everyone is sandbagging each other

Not unless they were reverse sandbagging lol I ended up winning 4 and 3. They kept blowing up on different holes and making sick putts on the front but then they both went OB on 10. Took double on 11, and lost all of their swagger. From their it was all but over. They ended shooting 85. Thanks for talking me into taking this match fellows.
Cheers

I think there are way more "reverse sandbaggers" out there than sandbaggers. So many golfers take gimmies and mulligans, and play OB like a hazard, for example.

So they shot like 47 on the back playing best ball? LOL I bet they were pissed.

I bet the whole getting them gambling outside their comfort zone was a big factor

yup they sucked I bet they are more like 15 and 17 hcp so i guess the question of if i could beat two 12's has not been answered. that should teach them a lesson about lying about their handicaps

The way you've described the match, it sounds like you played stroke play, but then you say you won "4 and 3". Did you end up playing stroke play or match play?

To be fair, occasionally if I lose a ball or walk up to my ball to find it surprisingly OB, I'll sometimes just drop one where my ball should have been or put it just barely back in bounds, add the 2 penalty strokes, and hit my 4th shot from there. But I do this because it's a pace of play issue - I'll only do this if the course is packed. I usually walk, so me walking all the way back to the tee to hit another would be a huge waste of everyone's time. But I do agree, loads of people reverse sandbag and brag about their handicap.

In my experience most would just take one stroke here.

On a related note, what should one do if they're pretty sure someone else hit their ball? I had a hole recently where I teed off and 100% ended up in the left rough. I was playing with a beginner so we let the twosome just behind us play through after our tee shots. One of them hit it into the houses way left and didn't bother with a provisional. I then saw him hitting from near where I thought my ball should be (and also near where his friend ended up). When I got down there my ball was nowhere to be found. What's my play?

If you hit your first (1) out of bounds, you would go back to the tee and take a penalty stroke (2) and hit (3) from the tee. So if you are hitting from near where your tee shot landed, you'd be hitting (4) instead of (2). Illegally, of course.

Yeah, a lot of people I've played with that hit it OB will drop one near where it went out and play their third from there. However, some of these people don't even have a handicap and never play for money or anything anyways.
