An actual reason, yay! I disagree, but at least you gave a reason.

WTF? anyone can have an opinion on long putters one way or another. its just that some people(LIKE YOURSELF) have some bitter hatred to those that are not opposed to one. i never used a long putter the 25 yrs ive played golf. but i dont mind other people using it if it helps their game and they have more fun with golf.

Long putters should and hopefully will be banned ASAP then we can laugh at those who can't putt with a regular putter.

you probably curse and swear alot when you hit bad shots. hate playing with people like you. you make the game joyless.

Well, I see Ernie is sporting the long putter at the RBC.

Re: now that scott puked on his shoes, can we end the debate over long putters?

lok you haven't presented any kind of argument at all. The Tiger thing makes no sense. You are saying you're mad because, had Tiger used a long putter he would have still crushed with it at least as good as he has and maybe more, and the upper crust of society would have lobbied to have that little kid (lol Zoeller) putting with a regular putter.

That is weaker than my "they look ridiculous" argument.

Anyway, is there any rule as to how wide a putter head can be? I think Matt Every uses something that looks like the size of an old VHS tape. Could someone putt with a putter face 2 feet wide? Or is that illegal? I'm asking b/c I don't know.

If it is legal I would say it is too advantageous for your line as it is easier to determine if your putter face is perpendicular to your line.

I'm 99% that a putter just can't be deeper from front to back as it is wide (heel to toe).

pbh, I wasn't saying he would have crushed with it more than he has/did, just that had he done so, the ruling bodies likely would have taken action years ago as opposed to now.

You don't know that, and if they did what would it matter?

If they want to make putting harder, why dont they ban aiming the line on your ball

My understanding as well. This came to light when the original Pelz 3 ball putter was manufactured.

So I guess you think the conversation went something like this:

USGA(1): So what do we do about the long putter?
USGA(2): Well, thank god Tiger is not using one. We can wait on this for a few years yet. So, nothing.

Of course I don't "know" that. We've gotten to a point where these putters are about to be banned, and that's without anyone doing exceptionally well with one. Imagine Tiger holding all four major trophies while using a chest putter. Imagine Tiger having enough world ranking points to hold the 1st and 2nd spot while using a belly putter. Imagine Tiger being on pace to crush the records of of all the old greats while using a chest putter. And here we are just a few years later and they're about to be banned. Seems obvious to me that what's happening now would have happened years ago. I wouldn't be saying this if they weren't about to ban them. If they came out in clear favor of letting them stand I wouldn't be saying this. And nothing really matters ldo, you know that.

This is the first I've heard of anyone even beginning to seriously question the legality of the anchorable putters outside of people and media running their mouths and speculating.

Do you have some insider info or have the governing bodies of golf issued any statements?

OK I get what you are saying now. The media/PGA would have falsely attributed Tiger's GOATness to his lol-worthy putter and they would have been banned long ago. I suppose I could buy that b/c up until last year they were still saying "but nobody has won a major with one yet" and now there have been 3 since and the fuss is getting louder.

Still not sure why that would make you mad. Whether they were banned 10 years ago or in a year.

When you have to resort to twisting someone's words you should probably just stop. This was always ending one way, with anchored putters being banned. Tiger using one would have gotten us there sooner. Are you going to stand up and make the claim that Tiger using one to do what he's done would have no impact on the timeline of events?? Because if not, then you actually agree with me. (perhaps to different degrees though)
