Re: now that scott puked on his shoes, can we end the debate over long putters?

Thank you for clearing that up.

Re: now that scott puked on his shoes, can we end the debate over long putters?

lol if you think I'm the only one who thinks a 5 foot long putter looks absurd while being used by anyone under 8 feet tall. People are just afraid to speak up b/c guys like Ron Burgundy get all bent out of shape.

Why can't PGA pros wear shorts? I mean it's not serious business - it's golf! It's basically the WWE on grass amirite?

Ronald, correct me if I'm wrong but you've already stated that long putters are no advantage for any player, so pray tell, if you were to ban the long putters, what criterion would lead you to that? It can be as shallow as "they look silly". Like, what at all even leads you to be on the fence about this issue? And passionate about being on the fence.

Re: now that scott puked on his shoes, can we end the debate over long putters?

I assure you that Ron's "on-the-fence" status has literally zero to do with how it looks and is instead entirely based on the facts that revolve around anchoring and the advantages it has or doesn't have.

To summarize, Ron didn't take a stand on whether or not they are an advantage. He said they are an advantage for those that putt better with them, while they would hurt other players if they used them (and thus, they don't use them).

I know all this because I read his posts in the thread. Try it sometime?

The "hurr durr it looks funny" argument, while true, probably isn't how this will be approached. Instead, ask yourself, "Is this how golf should be played?"

Of course they would never come out and say that Schu. I'm just giving my thoughts on the matter. Guys like Ron Burgundy can rest easy knowing I will have 0.0% impact on the PGA's ruling (on lack of).

I'm telling you that you are wrong. He did not say that. And if you're implying that my previous post contradicts itself, I implore you to read it again. He's saying "I'm not sure" because he doesn't have statistical proof that there is an inherent advantage in using long putters. What part of my post wasn't clear? Did you know that the words that you didn't bold are important to the sentence?

I'll try again I guess...

Schu said:
Quote:
If there is no advantage to using the long putter, why are so many players switching to them and seeing success?
and then Ron said:
Quote:
It proves that long putters are an advantage for those players. What about the players who try long putters, don't like them, and switch back to traditional putters? Making a blanket statement that long putters are a definitive advantage in golf is dumb.

Furthermore, just because some players improve their games with a change in equipment, why is that automatically a good reason to ban that equipment? Why aren't we still using featheries and hickory shafts and wearing tweed jackets?

There. Now you can't pick my paraphrasing apart. It's very clear that Ron's stance is that it helps some golfers but not all golfers, and using the "but what about tradition?" argument is dumb.

I don't even know why I'm taking this much time to make my point...And no, I didn't re-read this before hitting submit, but I can at least promise you that I read your post and didn't cherry pick words and phrases to string together in an effort to take some other meaning from your post. Actually, that's not true...

Am I doing this right?

Re: now that scott puked on his shoes, can we end the debate over long putters?

First of all I don't know why you are Ron's mouthpiece in this discussion.

The logic that long putters aren't an advantage for those who switch to them and see improved results is a mind-numbingly stupid piece of anti-logic.

The "hickory driver" analogy is also terrible. Not one player on earth is still using a hickory driver because after they tried titanium it made their game worse.

You can't eschew technology that helps across the board, because, well, it helps across the board. Thus, relatively speaking it doesn't help at all since everyone is using it. It's like the Titleist ProV commercials "this ball will help me WIN my club championship!" No it won't because everyone else is playing the same ****ing ball you noob.

I don't even really care if the long putter is only helpful for some. I just think it looks ridiculous.

I don't believe the long putter is how the game is intended to be played.

Next thing you know guys will be laying down playing billiards on the green

I was trying to prove a point. Putting is an art, it takes finesse and the long putter is clunky , tacky and adam got what he deserved IMO.

Also, they are bad for the game. People are talking about long putters when adam had a chance to win. It brought negative attention to a big event

lol can't he just have yipped the **** out of those putts? I like how you're blaming the long putter and claiming that's proof of something, somewhere.
