The last talking point was that even though you dont put better it takes small muscles and nerves out of the putting stroke thereby preventing the yips or choking. i think that argument is now mute. AFAIC long putters are good for the game and provide no unfair advantage.

If the long putter was a magic elixir where you would never miss a putt, everybody would use them. I don't think anybody with a clue thinks it makes putting a meaningless exercise.

Is it not widely considered that long putters take some skill out of putting? You are basically leaning the putter against something and going back and forward with your motion.

Im no expert but I think everyone should be made putt with their hands, if that makes sense and the more I hear about it I think they will be banned sooner rather than later.

Edit:- Please correct me if I am wrong of course because I have never once used a long/belly putter due to the embarrassment factor

I agree the thread should end.

At the end of the day, anyone who wants to use one can do so. Nothing is stopping them. If it were such a fantastic advantage to utilize one, more would. You'll see players with them win tournaments, you'll see normal putter using players win tournaments. It's not a huge deal.

Did every player adopt Snead's line-straddling stance?

Speaking of rule changes, why did USGA change rule so as to prohibit leaving flag stick in while putting? Where is the advantage?
