Angel Cabrera won the last Open hosted at Oakmont in 2007, Els won in 1994 and J-Miller shot what may be the best round of major championship golf ever in the final round of 1973 US Open. Jack Nicklaus and Ben Hogan won in 1962 and 1953 respectively.

Par is 70; and Oakmont will play approximately 7,200 yards.

The purse is $10,000,000 and the winner's share is $1,800,000, heaps of FedEx and OWGR points & most importantly the label of major champion.



The rough is reportedly ridiculous, the green are closer to billiards tables than municipal; the best players in the world will struggle this week.

Jordan Spieth is the defending champion - he won the 2015 US Open on a very different setup at Chambers Bay.

Master's champ Danny Willet will look to match Spieth's 2015 by winning the first two majors of the year.

I really have no clue who I think is going to win. No clue who is going to totally bomb and ruin all my fantasy lineups as well.

I think it's Spieth if he doesn't get dq'd for slow play. Don't even like the guy but I think he's the favorite.

everyone is talking about short game and putting, however give me the big talented ball hitters here. I like Rory, DJ, Day, and Kopeka types. While I am excited I do miss Tiger. Angel really maned up on that one

Spieth is going to have issues this week I think. He just isn't very accurate with his driver, hits like the same amount as Rory but is giving up tons of yards on him.

I agree, this isn't Augusta where you can make birdies from wayward tee shots. Spieth contends only if he hits a lot of fairways which has been which has been problem all year.

Pulling for old guys Cabrera and Goosen also for amateur John Rahm.

I think this will be a good chance for either a fairway and GIR machine like Stenson or a fairway and short game machine like Kuchar to win their first major.

They were showing Spieth on the range this morning, I thought his swing looked really good. Expecting a good week for him.

Edit Rory got one back already and has a good look at birdie to get back to even. Swing looks good also. Would be great to see Spieth/Day/Rory at the top of the leaderboard come Sunday.
