Have they said why they did threesomes instead of pairings? Could they not get pairs in by 5PM CDT?

Chappelle and Guy each take an eternity to hit wedge shots, then **** up both times

is it strange how open finau sets up to the ball? especially with his driver. shades of lee trevino.

strange that years ago you used to see a real diversity of swings. not so much anymore. i read an interview with a recent top player and he said players used to hit down like mad on the ball but now they sweep/pick the ball much more as fairway and round conditions are so much better.

crazy idea but would they ever put lounge chairs at tees for the players when they wait? or is standing around for 10 minutes waiting to hit part of competitive golf, like walking instead of electric cart? can you caddy carry a little chair for you?

Finau's driver really hurt him down the stretch. I would hire someone to carry a folding chair and follow me.around the course

Ever notice that however long the wait that you rarely see a tour player sit down? There's a reason for that, you sit down for even a few minutes your body will tighten up just enough to make a difference over the next few shots.

The reason why players don't hit down so much on the ball these days is spin. Hitting down results in lots of spin making it more difficult to control distance. The more you sweep the ball the lower the spin rate and it's easier to control distance. Differences in ball and club construction has contributed to this as well.

i was about to post the same. gonna be pretty cool imo.

pertinent info from pgatour.com:

TEAM FORMAT: The new 72-hole stroke play format will feature Foursomes (alternate shot) during the first and third rounds and Four-Ball (best ball) during the second and fourth rounds. The starting field will consist of 80 teams (160 players). Each of the top available players from the PGA TOUR Priority Rankings who commits to the tournament will choose his partner, who in turn must have PGA TOUR status unless he is chosen as a tournament sponsor exemption.

MAKING THE CUT: Following the conclusion of the second round, there will be a cut to the low 35 teams and ties at the 35th position.

WITH A WIN: The Zurich Classic of New Orleans will continue to award FedExCup points and official money, and will count as an official victory for the members of the winning team. As such, both players will receive a two-year winner’s exemption and an eligibility into Invitational fields, including the Tournament of Champions and THE PLAYERS Championship. Additionally, the PGA of America will include both members of the winning team in the Tournament Winners category for the PGA Championship.

PRIZES: FedExCup points and prize money will be awarded to teams making the cut based on combining every two positions from the distribution table for a standard TOUR event, with each team member receiving an equal share. For instance, the winning team will evenly split first and second place FedExCup points (500 for first and 300 for second for 800 total points, or 400 for each player). Official prize money will be distributed in the same manner.

I'm surprised about some of the pairings. Like why didn't any of Spieth/Rickie/Thomas end up playing with one another?

sponsor issues?.. just guessing........ or they're better friends with others, although i would think it would go..... sponsors >>> golf ability >>>> friendship.

i had no idea about the format change. but am also excited.......... is it just stroke play for the actual scores? not sure of terminology, alternative shot?... each play own ball for best score?

scramble would be sort of fun but i really enjoyed those tough conditions on both pga and web.com tours last week.

are nick taylor and adam hadwin playing together? two canadians who grew up on same small semi-rural course... probably be alot of "dumb asxxxssss" comments in that 2some.

not sure the exact format...

but if you like to bet on longshots.... delaet and david hearn seem like uber-dream pairing. one of the best long games in the world with short, very accurate player. assumes format makes it so delaet's pitches don't matter. alternative shot won't work perfectly but will be very good

ok, if i read and remember correctly........ thurs and sat = alternative shot. rest = best ball. not sure i got that exactly right but two days of each for sure.

i would say that's a good setup for a nervous, high variance golfer with a great long game.

stupid question......... but on alternative shot, is everything reset each hole? i.e. it's alternative shot on each hole not cumulative.

reminds me of my local 4.5 tennis tournament...... some doubles team didn't know that your team's serving order can be reset every set i.e. it doesn't alternate the entire 3 set match....

is playing really slowly an advantage? i don't think so. i think it causes relative paralysis EDIT: i am specifically thinking of shorter putts and/or spending 30 seconds actually over the ball ........ although a couple of super-elite players i know say you have to get used to slow play or you'll die. so playing fast might be sub-optimal too.

Speed of play I guess depends on the players personality. As a viewer, however, just hurry up

Usually it's set so that one player tees off on odd holes, the other player on evens.

'bout damned time

Of course, there will still be a ****show related to what "reasonably" means, but it's several steps in the right direction

I guess Spieth and Palmer and Palmer's caddie where playing in Dallas and Palmer's caddie bet Spieth that if he was to beat him straight up he would play with Palmer and I guess he won by one.

DWetzel, thank you ............

would love to see them have it so that the teams could tee off strategically with proviso it needs to alternate in longer term i.e. each player must tee off 2 of any

trouble/downside with overly complicating?? i would think at pga level it would be fine but no sense complicating it much further down the line.

This course has three par 3s on Odd Holes (3, 9, 17). Par 5s are 2-2.

Not sure if it's just the loss of Tiger, but in general it seems like the non-majors generate almost no interest these days, similar to pro tennis. I'm amazed all these nothing tournaments have million dollar 1st place prizes. What kind of TV ratings can last week and this week possibly be getting? I couldn't even tell you who won 2 weeks ago without looking it up, and I follow golf closer than 99% of people I'd bet.

my guess is it's all the same and has been the same except for TW and maybe phil in contention.

not sure but how much of pga tour purses is live gate, which is quite substantial i'd think, in contrast to most other tours.
