Had this exact thought today. Coverage was awful. Long stretches of time where no or one shot was shown. Too much Nicklaus rambling, ads, etc.

Nice for Rickie to finally get back on the board. His resume continues to be quite thin for someone who gets the level of hype that he does, but he's starting to get there.

stupid question but can he not get relief when there is a sprinkler head right on his line? or was he too far away? he was 7 or 8 yards away and as mentioned obvously off-the-green
Only get relief for stance or swing. If you're six inches away and dead stymied behind it, tough luck. Grab a wedge. Obviously he was trying to play to the right of it and the pitch shot was not easy.

Same story if your pitch mark on the fringe is in your line. Imagine your ball lands one foot short of the green in the fringe and spins back two inches. Now you've got a huge ball mark in your line that you cannot fix. Too bad, grab a wedge.

whats the rule with repairing things off the green? You can only do it if its not in your way or if you're already on the green or what? Obviously they let you repair the ground in some situations so is it just a judgment call on if it helps you or not?

Here's the simplest way to go about it. If your ball is not on the green you can only repair marks on the green. If your ball is on the green you can repair marks anywhere. (naturally you can't repair spike marks) Don't even get into judgment calls, that way you won't screw it up. Abiding by this should keep you in the clear rules-wise although you may miss the rare chance to fix something in unusual circumstances.

Now, outside of competition, I'd lean towards repairing any and all marks you can find regardless of USGA rule book minutia.

Then how do people get away with repairing divots when their approach misses the green?

I hear that, but his highest OWGR is 4, which he earned. He's also a normal sized guy hitting it a long way, which some people might enjoy watching and find entertaining. He's also handsome which makes for good tv. I do agree he gets a bit of hype for things not exactly based on his golf merit, but he's a likeable enough guy, and he's not the one tooting his own horn. It's just kinda happened for him.

Agree, Ricky seems like a mellow and modest guy overall. He marketed himself well to young fans with the long hair and flashy outfits, but he never claimed to be the next Tiger. He's a solid pro with a loyal fan base, nothing wrong with that.

WGC this week, in Mexico City. Best field of the year so far, looks like everyone is there except Jason Day.

As I'm sure we'll be reminded many times on the telecast this week, Mexico City is at altitude:

This is probably the most entertaining non-major Saturday round I've ever watched. PHIL doing PHIL things. DJ firing. Rory near the top of the board. Justin Thomas charging and taking a tie for the lead with a hole in 1. Spieth firing a 63 to make a charge to the first page.

Phil has hit provisionals off the last 2 tees and the one before had someone pick up his drive. Guy legit hits the driver like I do in some rounds and then pulls of miracles from there to shoot under par.
