random thought: the higher variance format should be played on Sunday. That's obviously alternate shot, not four-ball. Very few 2 and 3 shot swings in better ball.

Seems odd that Gillis would repeatedly slam Crane on Twitter over a bet that he had nothing to do with. Although judging by Charley Hoffman joining in, either they just can't stand Cranes slow play, or he's got a rep as a welcher.

Most likely Gillis has some other beef with Crane. Could be slow play or bad behavior in other bets, or something else entirely.

Likely won't finish Rd4 before Monday due to extensive rain delay.

Probably takes -26 or -27 to win.

Talk about no wim in that playoff. How do you tie the first 3 holes with par when you play 18 twice. Won't spoil in case people want to watch on dvr.

what was the deal with speith in the hazard on 18th yesterday? i wasn't watching closely but announcers seemed to suggest his practice swing brushed the grass but that was OK?... i don't understand.

I think Spieth said he thought he grounded the club but only brushed the grass. The announcers didn't talk about it till Spieth reacted. Shot link doesn't show a penalty so I guess nothing came out of it. Not really sure though

To answer the other point you can't ground your club but there is no penalty for brushing something that is growing in your back or forward swing/practice swing. Would be impossible to hit a ball on a bank like that without touching grass before the ball.

Ntan, thx........ i understand that you can't hit a ball in a hazard properly without often hitting the surface first........ but that logic doesn't apply to practice swing.

anyway, thx for the clarification.... you say it's grass that is generally ok. sand not ok??

That is my understanding but I am sure someone can correct me if I am wrong. Either way I wouldn't make a habit of it on practice swings in case you cause the ball to move accidentally hit ground ect.

announcers were blown away by a swing that kevin tway made with driver.

have to admit it was quite something.......... he really got that lag shoulder through the hitting area aggressively. i thought that was no-no but what do i know.

is kevin a big hitter?

thx again... i think ultra-paranoia is called for - for almost any reason imaginable including the fact some players may not know rules ....

i had never thought of this but saw it recently - that testing or raking the sand with your wedge after the ball has gone is a penalty too. when i say raking i just mean smoothing it a bit.

i also heard on the broadcast them say that some players like long irons vs. 5 wood for shorter drives and vice-versa. i think it was in discussion to driving irons..

they said it depended on swing. i'm thinking dig vs. sweep. dig prefer iron, sweep Fwood.

Poor Bowditch. Two more 77s. One made cut out of 18 events, $12K total winnings. Guy won $3million in 2015, guess he just lost his game.

I'm guessing he has some personal issues based on his extreme DUI from earlier this year.

this golf course in wilmington, nc seems perfect for tv. very lush.

also, the scoring seems good for the viewer - not too low - and the pga pros - not too high......... lots of birdies and bogeys out there. which i think is the best layout for a golf course.
