Wheatcroft looked like he was about to cry. I probably would too in that situation.

It wasn't. As was noted on the broadcast there was no virtually no sand in the bunker and the club just bounced off the ground behind the ball. Terrible break. The only thing he was guilty of was not considering this possible outcome (he noted in an interview afterward that he could tell by his feet that the bunker was thin) and adjusting his play accordingly.

Being in that bunker in two wasn't really a mistake either; it's the safe place for pros to play with the real trouble short and right. His real mistake was playing 16 and 17 in a combined +1. Too bad.

I know a win on tour is huge for these guys, but he's made almost $600k this year and plays golf for a living. Not a bad life by regular people standards.

Yeah I was lol'ing untill I saw him tapping his club in the bunker where he hit it from and it seemed to be hard a rock. Yeah I guess he should have just tried to chip it with a less lofted club and pick it perfectly looking back on it.

i wondered how much the announcers were just being nice.

i do think the announcers were right..

why is there little sand? hot, dry weather hardens it.

i hope this is motivation for wheatcroft ala vegas this week or kyle stanley a number of years ago..

it was strange that the 3 guys with best chance of winning on sunday got almost zero saturday coverage - maybe a little laird but no vegas or wheatcroft that i remember... guys near the lead from saturday were terrible

This shows a lack of understanding of the stresses of what the journeyman pro goes through. Sure, he's made that much money this year, but he's also a 38-year-old grinder whose wife has a bun in the oven and I don't think this week's results put him close to the top 125. That $600K could be more than he makes for the entirety of his forties.

It was a devastating outcome for him - he made $855,000 less than if he had won the tournament, not to mention the automatic entries which come with a Tour win, plus where a win would have put him on the money list etc. And actually, finally winning a PGA Tour event - particularly one of that magnitude - after so long would no doubt have been an incredibly validating accomplishment: I didn't just hang with these guys, I beat them! You can choose to not feel badly for him; I doubt he cares either way. To me however it's pretty sad and he'll hopefully bounce back.

The bunkers sucked, watched K.j Choi skull three straight in the back bunker into the water during Tuesday practice round. Inch of sand and then rock solid dirt.

Wheatcroft only went from 153 to 134. I believe 126-200 go to the web.com finals. He still has a few chances though. If he could have just rolled in that last putt to get into 2nd, he would have moved up a lot more.

Are the PGA morning streams free for the pga championship?

Well, if Wheatcroft had just made that putt he would have made about $200k more this week which would have moved him inside the top 110 in earnings and would have gone a long way to making sure he finishes top 125.

I know the BMW PGA Championship is the European Tour's marquee tournament. Which U.K. TV company owns the rights to broadcast it? Sky?
