Didn't know about this exemption for the Northern Trust Open and found the article interesting especially considering the nationwide protests going on regarding race.

Bo thx posting.... The article keeps mentioning minorities but don't they mean black?.. Seems like Asians and Asian-Americans have achieved a lot in pro golf... It bugged me that press made huge deal of tiger's blackness but not his Thai ancestory. Seemed like another form of racism (yes, not the type you read so much about)

Has there been a non-tiger black guy on tour in last 35-40 years? I.e. playing the tour"..... Sills? But maybe not tony

I would consider Vijay Singh a black man. True he's from Fiji but his ancestors were indentured servants brought to the islands by British colonial rulers.

Calvin Peete played on the 1983 and 85 Ryder Cup teams, had his last win in 1986 and played his last major in 1988. He was a fairway hitting machine.

I considered Vijay to be black as well, but since he was from Asia I suppose the press just always looked at him in that regard.

Technically, I think Tiger is either 1/4 or 3/8 black.

Notah Begay is of course a minority golfer. There are tons of pro golfers of Asian heritage born in the U.S., but it seems in the eyes of many that doesn't qualify.

Isn't his ancestory mostly Indian? Maybe some indigenous Fijian too

It sounds like golf carts replacing caddies had a big impact. Plus I guess the PGA has come a long way since 1961 if the worst thing they do now is tweet insults at foreigners. There are lots of other assorted WTF things in here too.
