It's been a par 5 in past events, it's playing as a 520 yard par 4 this time.

Moving this discussion to the right thread.

Well, I disagree. How many par 4's will these guys be facing 400+ yards for their tee shots? Why is this different? Maybe you are operating under the assumption that par 5's should be birdie holes?
I actually think this yardage is a good risk/reward type hole without a hazard. Guys who hit driver/3 wood for their first two shots will be rewarded with a wedge for their third. Guys who lay back to ensure hitting it in play might have a short-mid iron.
Distance is a skill, it should be rewarded at points. Just like accuracy, touch, feel, and imagination.

Have you ever seen Zach Johnson play?
I mean, it's fine to like him as a dark horse I guess, but it's funny that in back to back posts you call out that this isn't a good setup for TW (who works it both ways as much as anybody buy Bubba basically) because he doesn't work it both ways, and then list ZJ (who literally hits 95% of his shots with a pronounced hook) as someone to watch. It's nonsensical.

Not really anything impactful but def bizarre to see them teeing off on 1 and 9, not 1 and 10

Re: 2012 US Open | The Olympic Club, San Francisco, CA
That survey is pretty interesting. Especially the favorite/least favorite lists- No surprise that Oakmont is least favorite...also Bethpage is high on both...Bethpage is hosting the The Barclays this year for the 1st event in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. It will be interesting to see how the course differs from the USGA set-up (Probably just like how Torrey Pines is/was for the '08 U.S. Open and their yearly tour stop (higher, thicker rough, quicker greens, etc.)).
I wonder where all the love for Jonathan Byrd comes from...Just a nice guy that deserves it?

The players probably won't be hitting driver because;
1. The fairway narrows at around the 300 yard marker so it doesn't make much sense.
2. The slopes of the fairway means even a perfect tee shot doesn't guarantee you to be on the fairway.
Meh, I guess it's just preference. I don't like really long Par 3's, Par 4's or Par 5's. Long Par 3's are the worst IMO, 250 yard Par 3's (247 yard one here I think) shouldn't exist.
